Abstract

Education policy is the subject of special attention by the government. This has become a matter of concern since the world was shocked by the outbreak of a virus called Corona or often referred to as Covid-19 (Corona Virus Diseases-19). This virus has led to the issuance of several government policies, especially in education, to prevent the spread of Covid-19. This study aims to analyze the educational policies that surround students in sustaining support in each of their learning processes so that the obstacles they face can be overcome through policies submitted by the government. This research uses a qualitative case study method through data sources taken from various relevant data sources, including journals and scientific papers on the case of the education policy raised, namely distance learning during the Covid-19 emergency. The study results indicate that the distance learning process currently being carried out cannot be called an ideal learning condition but an emergency condition that must be implemented. There are still various obstacles so that all learning can be optimal. The government is working with various related parties to make various efforts to overcome the problems that arise in distance gaining knowledge of, both in terms of regulations, increasing educator readiness, and expanding networks and get entry to studying sources, on the way to run effectively and efficiently

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the influences of learning policies within the period of vocational higher education after the Covid-19 pandemic. The field research design applied the quantitative approach. The research population, 5.915 respondents, came from elements of the academic community at the Vocational Education Program, Brawijaya University, Malang, and the Vocational Faculty, Airlangga University, Surabaya. Then, the sampling technique determined 98 samples based on the Stratified Random Sampling approach. Data collection techniques were supported by questionnaires, documentation, and interviews. In order to facilitate the analysis, we used parametric inference statistical analysis techniques to test the validity and reliability. The results of the validity test through correlation (Pearson Correlation Coefficient) and the reliability test with the Cronbach Alpha method (Cronbach's Alpha) showed that all question items had been proven to be valid based on the sig value 0.05. From 18 items, the Cronbach alpha value was 0.785. As it was more than 0.6, the questionnaire was valid. Also, the reliability test of 16 items obtained from Cronbach's alpha value was 0.838. It was more than 0.6, meaning that the questionnaire was valid. The correlation value between items 1-18 had a fairly high correlation, and the view of the question value sig. 2 tailed overall was 0.05, meaning that each question item was valid. The findings from this study indicated that the existence of learning policies has a significant influence on the vocational learning process during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study recommends that in the post-Covid-19 pandemic, educational policies in higher education units of vocational type are more adaptive to digital-based learning by strengthening health principles and protocols.

Abstract

This study analyzes effective learning management through student-centred learning assisted by knowledge sharing at an Islamic-based junior high school in Krejengan. The qualitative case study method was employed in this investigation. In order to gather information, the researchers used interviews, observations, and documentation. When it comes to data analysis, there are several steps to follow: data gathering, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions as study findings. The results showed that effective learning management with a student-centred learning approach assisted by knowledge sharing at an Islamic-based junior high school in Krejengan was carried out through the stages of planning, implementing, and evaluating systematically by the teacher to obtain maximum effective learning outcomes. Student-centred learning approach assisted by knowledge sharing designed in such a way can make learning effective. This can be used as a reference by educators in creating effective learning to achieve optimal learning objectives.

Abstract

Some studies investigated the use of synchronous and asynchronous learning in EFL classrooms. However, the investigation of blended synchronous and asynchronous learning use in the reading comprehension class was scarce. Therefore, the researchers in this present study focused on investigating the effectiveness of the blended synchronous and asynchronous learning implementation for teaching reading comprehension. This study aimed to know whether or not there was a significant difference in the students’ reading comprehension ability before and after the blended synchronous and asynchronous learning implementation. This was a pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design. Meanwhile, the population in this study were three classes of the third-semester students of non-English departments of a university in Jombang. One class consisting of twenty-five students was taken as the sample using purposive sampling. The experimental students were given a pretest of reading comprehension before getting the six-meeting treatment of blended synchronous and asynchronous learning. After the treatment finished, they did the reading comprehension posttest. After all the reading scores were collected, the descriptive statistics, normality test, and paired sample t-test were applied using SPSS. The t-test result showed that the obtained t-count (11.616) was higher than the t-table (2.063). That result revealed that the students’ reading comprehension ability was significantly different before and after the blended synchronous and asynchronous learning application. Thus, blended synchronous and asynchronous learning was effective for teaching reading comprehension. Then, it is highly recommended for EFL lecturers to combine synchronous and asynchronous learning in their remote English classes.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze and examine the role of religion-based habituation in the development of children's personalities in Besuk Agung village. Problems in the development of children are the subject of this case study, which focuses on a specific object. Observation and in-depth interviews are used to gather the information. Observations and interviews can be strengthened by documenting the results of the research. It is necessary to employ data reduction, presentation, and conclusion techniques when analyzing the data. Findings from the study show that religious habituation can help children develop their communication skills by providing ongoing learning and exposure to educational films, as well as by teaching them about Islam and its stories. It is thus possible to train children to control their emotions, learn to be fair, honest, helpful, and willing to share a high attitude of solidarity and mutual respect through religious-based habituation.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop teaching materials to improve the mathematical understanding of the Pythagorean theorem material by using the development of teaching materials through the GeoGebra-assisted Problem Based Learning (PBL) approach. This study uses the Borg Gall model's research and Development (RnD) development method with the Borg Gall model. The researchers collected data through observation, questionnaires, interviews, and tests of mathematical understanding abilities. The population in this study was 80 students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah class VIII, with 30 students in a limited trial and 50 students in a broad trial. Data is processed using descriptive and inferential statistics. This research produced a teaching material with a Problem Based Learning approach assisted by Geogebra software on the Pythagorean theorem material and indicates that there is an increase in students' mathematical understanding abilities after being given learning using GeoGebra-assisted PBL approach teaching materials.

Abstract

The multilingual world demands educational stakeholders to adjust by embracing multilingual pedagogies. Translanguaging is deemed a prominent language practice to be implemented in educational settings, especially in the EFL class. However, the practice still obtains criticisms. Many scholars point out challenges in implementing classroom translanguaging. Therefore, studying attitudes, specifically students' attitudes, becomes significant at this point because it helps to reveal how students' feelings and thoughts of translanguaging practice are based on their learning experience. Further, their attitudes can be considered in the classroom decision making whether to translanguage or not to translanguage. The present study will generally continue what previous scholars have done but in a new context and methodology. This study investigated students' attitudes towards student- and teacher-directed translanguaging in Indonesian EFL classrooms. The participants were 40 grade VIII students from two EFL classes of a private boarding school located in East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. The data was collected using online questionnaires consisting of close-ended and mainly open-ended questions. The result showed that most students expressed negative feelings toward students-directed translanguaging. Meanwhile, teacher-directed translanguaging was more acceptable indicated by most students who had positive feelings towards their teachers' translanguaging. Students' arguments and comments were also interesting to be noticed. These findings shed light on a multilingual pedagogical practice and further research, which we would like to discuss further within this article.
