Abstract

Ulama play a crucial role as agents of social control through their knowledge and leadership in society. In the Mandailing region, the presence of Ulama is significant and has contributed meaningfully to the development of Islamic scholarship in the archipelago. Among them, three prominent figures, Shaykh Abdul Halim Khatib, Shaykh Syihabuddin, and Shaykh Abdul Qadir Bin Shabir, stand out with intellectual capacities comparable to other renowned Nusantara Ulama. This study aims to analyze their scientific networks and intellectual social constructions. Using a qualitative approach and library research methods, including documentation and content analysis, the research explores the underlying patterns of their scholarly engagement. Findings show that Mandailing Ulama focuses more on community movements than written scholarship. This is largely because the local society values Ulama as religious scholars and traditional and social leaders. Their active involvement in communal life limits the time and opportunity for writing. Nonetheless, the intellectual focus of these three Ulama centers on fundamental Islamic theology, particularly the 20 attributes of Allah (sifat 20). Shaykh Syihabuddin is especially noted for his contribution to the Naqshbandiyyah Sufi order, which he elaborates in his book Fath al-Qalb. This work extends beyond theoretical insights into practical spirituality. Similarly, Shaykh Abdul Halim Khatib was deeply engaged in Sufi practice and reportedly taught such knowledge at the Mustafawiyah Pesantren. The three Ulama exemplify a blend of spiritual leadership and theological scholarship rooted in the Mandailing context.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and describe the application of the group investigation model to strengthen students' democratic attitudes in the Pancasila Education course. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation. This research was conducted at Yogyakarta State University in the undergraduate department of education management in the odd semester of the 2023/2024 academic year, involving 46 students as the main informants. The results showed that the application of the group investigation model in the active learning process, both in class and through WhatsApp groups, was facilitated by a discussion sheet containing responses, suggestions, and questions that had to be filled in by several groups of listeners. The discussion was conducted after the presenting group delivered its topic, where the listening group gave responses to the presenting group. This democratic attitude emerges due to students' active participation in the learning forum, which includes freedom to participate, freedom of expression, and the development of collaborative attitudes. Thus, the group investigation model improves the understanding of the material and shapes students' characters to be more democratic and collaborative in their interactions with others.

Abstract

This study examines how Islamic educational values are integrated into the Kampus Mengajar Program at elementary schools in Makassar and how this integration contributes to students’ character development in the face of global and moral challenges. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through observations, interviews, and document analysis in five elementary schools participating in the program across Makassar. The research involved 12 informants, including Kampus Mengajar participants from Universitas Hasanuddin and the elementary school teachers they collaborated. The collected data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive analysis model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The study found that integrating Islamic educational values, such as Tauhid, akhlak, ibadah, and muamalah, into classroom activities significantly enhanced students' character development, particularly regarding honesty, responsibility, and tolerance. These values were instilled through religious rituals, community projects, and everyday interactions. The program also fostered students' awareness of environmental ethics and social empathy. The findings suggest that Kampus Mengajar is an effective vehicle for character education aligned with Islamic values. It is recommended that future implementations provide structured training for participants on Islamic educational integration. Further research could examine the long-term behavioral impacts on students and the institutional sustainability of such value-based educational programs.

Abstract

Radicalism and intolerance among religious communities in universities indicate a lack of understanding of religious moderation among students. This study aims to analyze the role of religious moderation in strengthening social harmony and interfaith tolerance among students of different faiths. The methodology used is a literature review, with data from journals, books, and relevant research conducted over the past five years. The results reveal a significant gap between the concept of religious moderation and its actual practice among students in campus life. While moderation is emphasized in educational policies, it has not yet been fully internalized as a social behavior, particularly in students' everyday interactions. These results suggest that religious education based on moderation should focus on transforming theoretical concepts into tangible actions, not merely discourse. The study also identifies that moderate religious values, such as balance, justice, and tolerance, are crucial for reducing intolerance and radicalism. Therefore, the study recommends strengthening campus policies and increasing student participation as key agents of interfaith harmony. Additionally, it suggests future research using qualitative field approaches to explore how religious moderation is applied in students' daily lives.

Abstract

The growing demand for culturally responsive digital learning highlights the importance of developing local wisdom-based e-book teaching materials to enrich online education and strengthen students' cultural identity. Following PRISMA guidelines, this study presents a systematic literature review of local wisdom-based e-book teaching materials in digital learning. Articles included were published between 2017 and 2024, written in English, relevant to the topic, and indexed by at least SINTA. Literature searches were conducted through ScienceDirect, ERIC, Google Scholar, Springer, Scopus, and Web of Science databases. The findings show that strategies for developing these materials include integrating e-learning, gamification, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR); using project-based challenges involving cultural practitioners; and incorporating portfolios and local wisdom content. The impact of local wisdom-based e-books includes strengthening students’ character (love of the homeland, peace-loving attitudes, and social care), enhancing critical thinking, scientific reasoning, and conceptual understanding, and improving digital literacy, science literacy, creative writing, and communication skills. This study concludes that local wisdom-based e-book teaching materials have strong potential to enhance student engagement and foster cultural identity in digital learning environments.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Snakes and Ladders-based learning media in improving students' mastery of Arabic vocabulary. Traditional methods like textbooks and static visual aids often fail to engage students actively and ensure consistent vocabulary retention. To address this, the study applied a pre-experimental design with a quantitative approach, using a one-group pretest-post-test format. The intervention involved a life-sized Snakes and Ladders board placed on the classroom floor, where students physically moved as game pieces and answered vocabulary prompts at each square—this setup aimed to provide an interactive learning experience, reinforcing vocabulary through repetition and contextual application. The study involved 18 fourth-grade students, with an initial average pretest score of 71.61, which increased to 94.11 in the Post-test, showing an improvement of 22.50 points. A paired t-test revealed a statistically significant improvement (t(17) = -12.144, p < 0.001), with Cohen's d = 3.79, indicating a substantial impact. These results demonstrate that Snakes and Ladders game-based learning can significantly enhance vocabulary acquisition. Incorporating physical movement, peer interaction, and visual stimuli is vital in reinforcing vocabulary retention, offering a promising alternative teaching method to support Arabic language learning at the elementary level.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze strategies and develop an effective model of character education based on religious values in response to the challenges posed by globalization. While globalization positively impacts technological advancement and information accessibility, it also triggers moral crises, value disorientation, and character degradation, particularly among the younger generation. This research adopts a qualitative approach using the literature review method, examining various sources related to character education and religious values within global education. The findings indicate that effective character education strategies must integrate spiritual, moral, and cognitive dimensions into formal and non-formal curricula through contextual, participatory, and sustainable approaches. The developed character education model emphasizes inclusivity, contextual relevance, and the involvement of all stakeholders, including teachers, school principals, families, and communities. Religious values such as honesty, responsibility, and tolerance are the foundation for shaping students' character. This study recommends policy synergy between central and local governments, continuous teacher training, and the utilization of digital technology as a medium for teaching religious values. Through this approach, character education can foster a generation with integrity that is resilient against the negative influences of globalization.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) and Problem-Based Learning (PBL) models within the Community Service Program (PPkM) in the Christian Religious Education (CRE) course at the Universitas Kristen Indonesia. Using a descriptive quantitative approach, the research involved 393 students across eight faculties who had participated in the PPkM initiative. The findings reveal that applying CTL and PBL significantly supports achieving CRE learning objectives by enhancing students’ cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. Moreover, these pedagogical models foster students' ability to reflect their faith through tangible actions, positioning the learning environment as a contextual and transformative ministry space. Evaluation scores averaged from “good” to “very good,” indicating that service-based learning effectively bridges the gap between theory and practice. This research offers a vital contribution to the development of a Christian Religious Education curriculum that is contextually relevant and responsive to the dynamics of Indonesia’s multicultural society

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implications of the policy of eliminating and reinstating the major system in Senior High Schools (SMA) on the development of students' interests and talents in Lampung Province. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and case study method, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation in seven senior high schools across the Lampung region. The analysis used Foucauldian Discursive Analysis (FDA) to map the policy dynamics in two government periods: 2019–2024 and 2024–2029. The study results show that the Independent Curriculum policy (2019–2024) provides a wider exploration space for students' interests and talents, but faces implementation challenges due to limited infrastructure and human resources. Meanwhile, the major reinstatement policy (2024–2029) provides a more structured learning direction, but risks narrowing students' exploration space. A comparison of the two shows that the effectiveness of the policy is highly dependent on institutional readiness and the quality of mentoring. This study recommends a hybrid approach that combines the flexibility of subject selection with the major structure as an alternative solution for a more adaptive and inclusive secondary education system.

Abstract

This research explores students' perceptions of halal tourism at Pasir Putih Bira Beach, Bulukumba Regency, and their potential in promoting halal tourism based on local culture. The research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. The informants were 50 high school students in classes XI and XII, selected based on religiosity, domicile near tourist areas, and travel experience. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation. The research results show that most students have a normative understanding of halal tourism, such as the importance of worship facilities, halal food, and restrictions on interactions between genders. However, gaps were found between this understanding and the reality on the ground, including the lack of halal facilities and tourist behavior that was not in line with religious values. Students experience a dilemma between maintaining religious values and the reality of modern tourism. The research conclusion shows that students have the potential to become halal tourism promotion agents by integrating local cultural values such as politeness and respect for guests. This research recommends educating the younger generation and promoting halal tourism based on local wisdom to create inclusive and competitive destinations.
