Abstract

One of the physical exercises favored by pregnant women is pregnancy gymnastics. It is a kind of exercise for strengthening and maintaining the elasticity of abdominal wall muscles, ligaments, and basic muscles of pelvis which are related to the process of childbirth. The objective of this research was to find out the effectiveness of physical exercise method between prenatal yoga and pregnancy exercise in primigravida on childbirth duration so that it could provide information which could increase the knowledge of midwives and midwifery students in providing midwifery care for pregnant women in facing the process of childbirth. This quasi experiment study was conducted in July to September 2016. The subjects was 40 pregnant women. The respondents were all primigravida pregnant women of trimester III who had the pregnancy examined in the Practice of Independent Midwife, Medan Johor. T-test was used for statistical analysis. The result of T-test showed that p-value=0.002 which indicated that there was the difference in the effectiveness of physical exercise method between prenatal yoga and pregnancy gymnastics in primigravida on the duration of normal childbirth. Prenatal yoga was more effective than pregnancy gymnastics in shortening the duration of normal childbirth. Keywords: Prenatal yoga, Pregnancy gymnastics, Childbirth

Abstract

An industrial upgrading will result in a variety of wastes being released into the environment that ultimately impact on public health. One of the hazardous wastes is Pb. The purpose of this research is to know the correlation of Pb in blood to hb level, hematocrit, serum Cystatin C, SGOT and SGPT serum and health complaints on car paint workers of workshop in Rungkut Sub-district Surabaya. This research was an observational research with cross sectional design. Sampling method using simple random sampling. The study sample consisted of 24 people. The result of statistical test shows that there is a correlation of Pb exposure in air to blood Pb level with contribution amount 80% (r = 0.527; p = 0.008). Decreased levels of hemoglobin, hematocrit, elevated serum Cystatin C levels, SGOT and SGPT serum and health complaints of nerve and liver function were associated with blood levels of Pb with p <0.05. Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that the exposure of Pb in the air has a relationship to the increase of Pb levels in the blood of car paint workers of workshop in Rungkut Sub-district, Surabaya. Abstract

Malaria was a disease that caused many mortalities in developing countries. In solving this problem, it was needed a focused and directed mentoring continuously. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of malaria cadres on drug intake supervision, the use of mosquito net and environmental modification on malaria sufferers at Public Health Center of Waipukang. This research was analytic observational research with cross sectional study design. The results showed that the average knowledge of malaria cadres was still low. Malaria cadres in Public Health Center of Waipukang were less effective in monitoring the consuming of malaria drugs, mosquito nets usage, and environmental modification in their areas. Furthermore, there were 78% of people who used mosquito net properly and 54% of families obediently did environmental modification efforts. Abstract

Obesity is a global epidemic, it was health issues that must be addressed immediately. There was a very significant increase in the prevalence of overweight and obesity of adolescents. Several studies showed that social support related to eating disorders and physical activity of adolescents causes of overweight and obesity. Other study showed that personality contributes to health outcomes and it was associated with a controllable risk factor such as obesity. The aim of the study was to measure the relationship of personality type, fatty food consumption, and physical activity level to overweight and obesity among adolescents. We used a case-control design with 270 subjects. Case population was vocational or senior high school students with overweight or obesity and the control population was vocational or high school students without overweight or obesity. Data analysis used chi-square test with 95% confidence level (α = 0.05) and Odds Ratio (OR). The results showed that there was no significant relationship between personality type and overweight or obesity (p> 0.05). There was a significant relationship between the consumption of fatty foods (p = 0.001), the level of physical activity (p = 0.040) and overweight or obesity among adolescents. Abstract

Measles disease is a communicable disease and leading causes of infant mortality. Jember regency is one of the contributors of high measles cases in 2010 there were 123 cases. In 2011 there were 128 cases. In 2012 there were 64 cases. In 2013 there were 45 cases, in 2014 there were 112 cases, in 2015 there were 109 cases, there were 266 cases in 2016. In 2017 to July there were 342 cases the number of measles incidents is very high compared to 2016. One of the risk factors for the disease is the host factor, host factor including age, immunization, nutritional status. The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors that influence the incidence of measles in Jember Regency. The method used was analytical with case control approach, the sample of research were 50 cases and 50 controls. Data analysis used is logistic regression test (α = 0.05). The result of analysis showed that there was an influence of nutritional status on measles incidence in Jember Regency, children with less nutrition had 2.113 times greater risk for measles compared with children with more nutrition and there are no influence of age and immunization on measles in Jember District. Abstract

Oxidative stress is a condition caused by the imbalance between the production of free radicals or ROS and the antioxidants; the level of free radicals is higher than the antioxidants. Exhaustive exercise is one of the causes of this oxidative stress. However, it can be reduced by antioxidants found in purple sweet potatoes (PSP) (Ipomoea batatas L). This study aims to evaluate the effect of two weeks supplementation of PSP extract on rats inducedoxidative stress. Twenty rats were distibuted into four groups consisted five rats each. Rats in the treatments groups were administered PSP extract for two weeks then were forced to swim until exhausted. Bloods from all samples were drawn to see the changes in the levels of malondialdehyde ans superoxide dismutase after two weeks of treatment. The data was then analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistic. The results showed that mean level of MDA and SOD differ significantly (p<0.05) between groups after the administration of PSP extract as well as after exhaustive exercise. The extracts and exhaustive exercise concurrently showed a significant effect on oxidative stress biomarkers (p<0.05). It concluded that PSP extract can protect cells against free radical produced by exhaustive exercise. Keywords: Purple sweet potatoes, Physical activity, Oxidative stress, MDA, SOD
