Abstract

This research aimed to 1) explain the process of preparing the Simplified Grammar Book by Shauqi Dhoif in light of the constructivist theory is for beginners, and 2) determine the effectiveness of the developed Simplified Grammar Book. The development of Nahwu teaching materials was initiated due to several backgrounds, including: The unavailability of Nahwu teaching materials in Islamic boarding schools focusing on practical aspects, lack of supporting teaching materials for students to understand Nahwu, and the emphasis on the importance of improving Arabic text reading skills among students. These issues were addressed through this research. The researchers in this study used Research and Development (R&D) methodology, following nine steps out of the ten proposed by Borg and Gall. These entailed needs analysis, data collection, product design, product validation, improvement of the first product, individual product testing, improvement of the second product, field testing of the product, and improvement of the final product. The results of this research are as follows: 1) The developed educational materials consisted of 25 units to be implemented in 8 sessions. The educational materials included various exercises in grammar enhancing the understanding of grammar and analyzing Arabic linguistic texts. 2) The effectiveness of using the educational materials became evidence through the analysis of expert questionnaire data, which received a score of 86.5, classified as "good." The student questionnaire results also scored 86.6, categorized as "good." While the pre-test score was 57.0000, after using the developed teaching materials, the students scored 75.6800. This indicated a significant increase and the book was very effective for improving students' grammar knowledge and skills. The theoretical contribution of this research is that grammar teaching materials based on constructivist theory using the Shauqi approach can contribute to enhancing students' ability to understand and analyze Arabic texts.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the stages of making and feasibility of quartet cards integrated with augmented reality as Sarf learning media. Sarf is an element of grammar in Arabic learning and a study that discusses the rules in Arabic. The creation of this media was undertaken due to several challenges in learning Sarf, including a) the rapidly changing discussion topics, b) the difficulty of memorizing the material, c) numerous alterations in word patterns, and d) the infrequent use of changing vocabulary in daily life. These challenges necessitated that teachers become more creative and innovative to simplify the mastery of Sarf material for students, one method being the implementation of learning strategies through play. This strategy certainly required a medium to make the learning of Arabic more interactive and meaningful. Therefore, through this research, which was research and development, the researchers developed a quartet card game media that could facilitate students in learning Sarf material using the ADDIE approach. Data collection methods used observation, questionnaires, and literature studies. The data analysis techniques in this study were adjusted to the type of research data. The result of this research was the development of quartet card game media and applications as augmented reality markers. Based on the validation results, the percentage of material and media validation showed an average of 82.75% and 89.88%, respectively, so that the media was declared feasible to be tested with some minor revisions. Meanwhile, the results of student and teacher response tests showed 87.65% and 84.70%, respectively, so that the media was declared practical after being tested in classroom learning.

Abstract

The attack on the al-Aqsa mosque on April 6, 2023, and the burning of the Qur'an on January 21, 2023, have sparked a reaction from hacker group who call themselvesالهاكرز المسلمون  (al-hākirz al-muslimūn) 'Muslim Hackers' (MH). Through the “Hacker News” YouTube channel, they threaten to hack several strategic and vital facilities of the Israeli and Swedish governments. About this phenomenon, this study aims to explain the construction of their threat narratives to those whom they call Zionists and anti-Islamists. Explanative qualitative research was conducted to answer research questions consisting of the formulation of themes, sequence of the scheme, and micro linguistic elements. Research data in the form of 2 videos of MH hacking threats were collected through manual transcription, reading and observation, printing, selection, and classification. Meanwhile, data analysis through the stages of reduction, presentation, analysis, interpretation, and conclusion was carried out by referring to Teun van Dijk's discourse structure model as an analytical framework. The results of the thematic structure analysis show that the theme highlights the actions as a response to attacks on Muslims and Islamic sacred symbols. MH asserts their identity as Muslims explicitly on the theme to attract the audience's attention. In line with these findings, the results of the schematic structure analysis show that the MH threat narrative scheme consists of the cause of threat, form of threat, detail of threat, and impact of threat. Microstructure analysis shows that MH uses clause structures, meaning intentions, and speech acts to launch psychological warfare against Zionists and anti-Islamists. Through this narrative, MH spreads fear with the target of putting political pressure on the Israeli and Swedish governments. Observing the increasingly massive and dynamic phenomenon of cyber warfare, it is predicted that MH's hacking threat narratives will often be found in conflicts and political dynamics in various countries.

Abstract

The research aimed to develop learning strategies that would meet the needs of nursing students through a multi-strategy approach. This study employed a quantitative method to measure the impact of the multi-strategy approach in learning Arabic at Medan Nursing Poltekkes. An experimental approach was utilized, with pre-test and post-test assessments administered to students using a questionnaire to test alternative hypotheses. Data from experiments and literature were analyzed using statistical tests such as T-Test. This study demonstrated that the multi-strategy approach led to a significant improvement in Arabic language skills among students at Medan Health Poltekkes, with the average skill level increasing to 96.85 from the previous 45.14. All students managed to reach the "complete" skill level, with 100% of the "very high" level. The significance test indicated that the difference between the pre-test and post-test had a very low significance value (0.000), underscoring the positive impact of this multi-strategy approach. The integration of online learning applications and multimedia provides variations in teaching methods and increase learning motivation, while the use of reading material that is relevant to the field of nursing and emphasis on Arabic literacy prepares students for the challenges of communication in the world of multicultural work. By integrating various learning methods such as multimedia, language games, and direct interaction with teaching material, students can develop speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Direct and dynamic interactions between teachers and students are also the key in deepening understanding and increasing self -confidence in using Arabic.

Abstract

This study aimed to propose strategies of how to teach Arabic reading comprehension by using materials taken from authentic sources. It employed a method that combined library research and field research. Library research was executed by searching authentic reading texts that were contextual and relevant with students’ needs, obtained from references, magazines, newspapers, and radio programs. All of which were written in by Arabic native speakers for Arabic native speakers. Field research was conducted by teaching Arabic reading comprehension using authentic materials in in the classroom. Implementing this method, it was found that teaching Arabic reading comprehension using authentic materials should be carried out in three stages: (i) pre-reading stage, conducted by facilitating students to understand the importance of authentic materials and negotiating the topics that the students were interested in; (ii) reading stage, in which students read and grasp  texts through dialogues and group discussion guided by the teacher; and (iii) post-reading, in a way that the students did exercises by answering questions to sharpen their understanding about text contents. This practice of teaching Arabic reading provided such benefits as students were more motivated to study and more exposed to Arabic sentences having more complex and natural structures that were rarely found in simplified texts. Teacher’s guidance at each stage of learning was proven to be able to assist students in understanding the complex sentences. The significant contribution of this study is to overcome the weaknesses of using authentic materials as many studies have reported that authentic materials are frequently too difficult since they are beyond leaners’ language proficiencies. In addition, this research clearly confirms the theory of the importance of authentic materials in teaching a foreign language reading.
