Abstract

Religious education plays an important role in shaping students' character and communication ethics, while social media can influence students' language patterns, both positively and negatively. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the extent to which religious education and the influence of social media play a role in improving students' language politeness in Islamic schools in Yogyakarta. Language politeness is an important issue in character education, especially amidst the challenges of social media development. This study uses a quantitative approach using a Likert scale survey processed with Smart-PLS. In this study, there were 230 students from two Islamic high schools in Yogyakarta who were the research samples. The results of the study indicate that both religious education and social media have a significant influence on students' language politeness. Social media shows a stronger influence than religious education, depending on how students use it wisely or otherwise. Theoretically, this study contributes to enriching the literature on character education and language pragmatics. These findings provide practical implications for teachers, parents, and schools to design a learning approach that integrates religious values with digital literacy in order to form polite communication. Highlights: Dual Influence: Both religious education and social media significantly shape students' language politeness, with social media having a slightly stronger impact. Educational Integration: Findings highlight the need to blend religious values with digital literacy in school programs. Practical Relevance: Results inform teachers, parents, and schools to develop better communication ethics strategies amid social media challenges. Keywords: Religious Education, Language Politeness, Social Media, Character Education, Islamic Schools

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development and trends of Islamic education policy research indexed in the Scopus database through a bibliometric approach. The focus of the study was directed at keyword mapping, author networks, institutional affiliations, and countries of origin of publications. The method used is bibliometric analysis with the help of VOSviewer, RStudio, and Microsoft Excel software to process publication metadata in the period 1974 to 2025. The results show that Indonesia is the country with the highest number of publications, followed by Iran and Malaysia. The trend of publications increased sharply after 2020, and the dominant keywords that emerged reflected the focus on curriculum, educational policies, as well as the integration of Islamic values in contemporary education. The theoretical contribution of this study lies in its unique approach, namely the use of bibliometric methods that have not been widely applied in the context of the study of Islamic education policy. This approach allows for a systematic and data-driven mapping of knowledge structures. Practically, these findings can be used by policy designers, managers of Islamic educational institutions, and curriculum developers as a reference in formulating strategies and policies that are adaptive to global scientific trends. However, this study has limitations in the scope of the data, which only includes English-language articles and the types of documents in the form of journal articles available at Scopus, so it is not fully representative of the entire global literature. Nevertheless, the results of this study are expected to contribute to the development of Islamic education policy strategies that are more adaptive to the times. Highlights: Rising Trends: Islamic education policy publications surged after 2020, with Indonesia leading in output. Research Focus: Dominant keywords highlight themes like curriculum, policy, and integration of Islamic values. Methodological Contribution: Utilizes bibliometric analysis—rare in this field—for systematic knowledge mapping. Keywords: Bibliometric, Policy, Islamic Education, VOSviewer

Abstract

Bullying in higher education is a problem that often goes unnoticed, even though it has a serious impact on students' mental health and academic climate. Islamic Religious Education has great potential in shaping character and preventing deviant behavior, but its role in the context of bullying prevention has not been studied in depth. Therefore, this study aims to describe the role of Islamic Religious Education in preventing bullying in higher education. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this research explores students' experiences, perceptions, and attitudes towards learning Islamic Religious Education as an effort to build religious and social character. The research informants amounted to 15 Islamic Religious Education lecturers, and 97 students from three faculties at Muhammadiyah Mataram University, selected through purposive sampling technique to represent the diversity of academic backgrounds. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and review of current scientific literature (2018-2024). Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman interactive model, through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that Islamic Religious Education learning that integrates Islamic values, religious moderation approach, and participatory methods are able to raise students' awareness of the importance of tolerance, empathy, and justice. The internalization of these values plays a significant role in shaping inclusive social behavior and reducing the potential for bullying. Data validity is strengthened through source triangulation, while reliability is maintained with a systematic audit trail. The findings recommend strengthening the Islamic Religious Education curriculum based on anti-bullying values as part of the student character building strategy in higher education. Highlights: Islamic Education Shapes Character – It fosters tolerance, empathy, and justice to reduce bullying. Participatory and Moderation-Based Methods – Effective in promoting inclusive social behavior among students. Curriculum Enhancement Needed – Recommends integrating anti-bullying values into Islamic Religious Education. Keywords: Islamic Religious Education, Bullying, Student, Character, Religious Moderation

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of a multicultural-based Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum for students with intellectual disabilities at SLB Negeri Lamongan. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach through observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The findings indicate that SLB Negeri Lamongan has established a learning environment that respects student diversity and has adapted the PAI curriculum to the characteristics of students with intellectual disabilities. Adaptations include the formulation of realistic learning outcomes, individualized teaching methods, and the use of engaging and adaptive learning media. Religious values are taught applicatively through direct practice, and curriculum evaluation is carried out continuously, involving various stakeholders and emphasizing students’ affective and psychomotor development. The theoretical contribution of this research lies in emphasizing the importance of multicultural and individualized approaches in religious education for students with special needs. Its practical implications highlight the need for inclusive and adaptive curriculum development, as well as teacher training to design instruction that meets students’ specific needs. The limitation of this study is its focus on a single school with a limited number of participants. In conclusion, multicultural and individualized approaches in Islamic education are proven to be strategic in creating equitable and transformative education. It is recommended that similar studies be conducted in other schools to broaden the generalization of findings and to support policies promoting inclusive education. Highlights: Emphasizes adaptive PAI curriculum for students with intellectual disabilities. Promotes multicultural and inclusive teaching practices. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the process of internalizing environmental character values through Islamic Religious Education (IRE) at SMP Alam Insan Mulia Lubuklinggau. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving the principal, vice principal for curriculum, and Islamic studies teachers. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The findings reveal that the internalization process follows three stages: value transformation, value transaction, and transinternalization, aligned with Thomas Lickona’s character components moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral action. The theoretical novelty of this study lies in integrating Lickona’s framework with Islamic values in the unique context of a nature-based Islamic school, which remains underexplored in existing literature. Practically, the findings offer insights for teachers and principals to design contextual IRE learning and for policymakers to promote Islamic-based environmental education. This study is limited to a single school context, hence its findings are not broadly generalizable; future research should involve diverse educational settings to enrich theoretical and practical perspectives. Highlights: Three-Stage Process: Internalization is done through transformation, transaction, and transinternalization stages. Lickona’s Integration: Combines moral knowing, feeling, and action with Islamic values. Contextual Insight: Offers a unique case from a nature-based Islamic school, informing IRE teaching practice and policy. Abstract

General Background: The advancement of science and technology has reshaped modern civilization, yet without a moral foundation, it risks diminishing human values. Specific Background: Islamic education, rooted in divine revelation, emphasizes a balanced integration of knowledge from both the Qur'an (Qauliyah verses) and natural phenomena (Kauniyah verses) to cultivate holistic human development. Knowledge Gap: Despite the growing body of research on religious and scientific integration, few studies explore the epistemological synthesis of revelation and empirical observation in shaping Islamic educational frameworks. Aims: This study aims to analyze the integration of Qauliyah and Kauniyah verses with science and technology to build an educational model grounded in both spiritual and intellectual excellence. Results: Through literature review, the study finds that integrating both types of verses enriches pedagogical methods, strengthens students' engagement, and inspires Muslim scholars to develop contextual, character-based education amid global technological challenges. Novelty: The research introduces a conceptual paradigm where scientific inquiry becomes a medium for deepening faith and ethical awareness, rejecting the dichotomy between religious and secular knowledge. Implications: The findings suggest that integrating revelation and empirical knowledge can form a value-based curriculum in Islamic education, offering a viable response to secularization and moral decline in global education.Highlight : Integration of Qauliyah and Kauniyah verses strengthens Islamic education foundations. Islamic education should combine revealed values with scientific knowledge. Science and technology serve as a medium for deeper reflection and faith.
