Abstract

Adolescence is an important period in the development of high school students, where they begin to find their identity and determine their career direction. This process is often accompanied by challenges, such as the lack of accurate and transparent information regarding career choices. This study aims to develop a module service that is valid in content and design, practical, and effective to assist students in making career decision information. This research uses the research and development (R&D) method. The research design model used in this study is the ADDIE (Analysis-Design-Develop-Implement-Evaluate) research and development model. The respondents in this study were 3 expert lecturers for content validation, 2 expert lecturers for display validation, 3 guidance and counseling teachers for practicality testing, and 30 students for effectiveness testing. The results of the study indicate that the developed service module is valid in terms of content and design, and is also practical and effective for the maturity of students' career decision-making information

Abstract

This study examines the impact of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model on high school students' creative thinking skills and physics learning outcomes. Using a quasi-experimental design with a Nonequivalent Control Group, data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests from 71 students divided into experimental and control classes at SMAN 1 Gerung. The findings reveal that the PjBL model significantly enhances students' creative thinking skills, with the experimental class showing a higher improvement (from 42.58 to 76.29) compared to the control class (from 37.41 to 67.77). Additionally, the PjBL model effectively improves cognitive, affective, and psychomotor outcomes, as evidenced by higher post-test scores and improved engagement, collaboration, and responsibility among students in the experimental class. These results suggest that the PjBL model is an innovative and effective approach to fostering 21st-century skills such as creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking while addressing the limitations of traditional, teacher-centered methods. This research contributes to the development of interactive and student-centered teaching strategies, particularly in physics education, and provides valuable insights for enhancing academic and life skills in students.

Abstract

Cold Emulsion Asphalt Mixture (CAED) uses unheated emulsified asphalt, thus reducing gas emissions and health risks for workers. Volumetric characteristics and aggregate gradation are very important to assess the quality of CAED. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the volumetric characteristics of CAED, namely Void in Mix (VIM), Void in Mineral Aggregate (VMA), and Void Filled with Bitumen (VFB), with variations in filler (cement, lime) and aggregate gradation (dense, open). The study used a laboratory experimental method, including material preparation, sample preparation with five variations of filler, testing VIM, VMA, and VFB values, and data analysis. This study shows that the volumetric characteristics of CAED with closed and open gradations meet the VMA and VFB specifications, but the VIM value is only met in the closed gradation of CAED with a variation of 50% cement:50%. Better aggregate interlocking in closed gradations results in smaller air voids. Closed gradations are recommended for heavy traffic, while open gradations are suitable for well-drained roads and light traffic

Abstract

Rice fields managed by farmers or agricultural business actors provide cultivation benefits and environmental services. Research in Japan shows that the environmental benefits of rice fields reach 90%, much higher than its role as a cultivation medium which is only 10%. This study aims to examine the economic value of rice fields as a whole in three main aspects: (1) its value as a rice field medium, (2) its value as an environmental service, especially flood control, and (3) a comparison of these economic values. The method used is economic valuation through the Replacement Cost Method (MBP) and the calculation of farming profits. MBP is used to calculate the economic value of rice fields that do not yet have a market price. Meanwhile, the calculation of farming profits is to assess the cultivation benefits produced by rice fields. The results of the study show that (1) the economic value of rice fields as a rice field medium is IDR 24,750,000 per hectare per year. (2) As a provider of flood control, its economic value reaches IDR. 150,276,000 per hectare per year, and the conversion of 350 hectares could result in an annual loss of Rp. 52.6 billion. (3) The comparison of the economic value between rice fields as a planting medium and as a flood controller is 1:6, highlighting the important environmental benefits provided by rice fields

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the management of School Operational Assistance (BOS) funds in vocational high schools in Tulin Onsoi Subdistrict, Nunukan Regency, North Kalimantan, focusing on budgeting, accounting, auditing, and accountability. Using a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, the research involved principals, treasurers, teachers, school committees, and parents from three schools: SMKN 1 Tulin Onsoi, SMKN 1 Sei Menggaris, and SMKN 1 Sembakung Atulai. Data collection was conducted through interviews and document studies, and the data were analyzed using an interactive model comprising data collection, condensation, presentation, and conclusion. The results indicate that budgeting involves participatory preparation of RKAS at the start of the academic year, guided by school programs and inputted into the ARKAS application. Although treasurers demonstrate good performance, their educational background is not aligned with financial management fields. Accounting practices ensure timely BOS disbursement and compliance with regulations. Auditing is carried out monthly, and evaluations are conducted at the end of each stage. Accountability is maintained through transparent reporting to internal and external stakeholders. Overall, the management of BOS funds adheres to technical guidelines, with no reported dissatisfaction among stakeholders.

Abstract

Based on challenges in physics education, complex and abstract fluid dynamics, improving critical thinking skills is crucial for 21st-century learning. Needs analysis of 59 XI SMA Negeri 2 Plus Banyuasin III students revealed 90% had never used AR-based flashcards and showed high interest. The study aimed to develop valid, practical, and effective augmented reality-based flashcards using Research and Development (R&D) methodology with the Rowntree model and Tessmer formative evaluation. The research process involved planning, development, and evaluation stages. Results demonstrated high validity across components: media (93.33%), material (93.32%), critical thinking skills (96.66%), language (97.77%), and design (100%). Practicality assessments showed 95.18% in one-to-one and 95.73% in small group evaluations. The media effectively enhanced critical thinking skills with an N-Gain of 0.71, indicating high potential for dynamic fluids learning in grade XI. Conclusively, the augmented reality-based flashcards proved valid, practical, and effective for physics education.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a global health problem with a growing prevalence. Blood glucose levels that remain high can cause damage to various body tissues. including the pancreas. Durian seeds contain bioactive compounds such as alkaloids. triterpenoids. phenolics. and flavonoids that can reduce blood sugar levels. This study is an experimental study with a posttest only controlled group design conducted at the Pharmacology Laboratory of the Faculty of Pharmacy. University of North Sumatra and the Anatomical Pathology Laboratory of the Royal Prima Medan Hospital for more than 3 months. From the results of this study. durian fruit seed extract (Durio zibethinus Murr) in the phytochemical compound test contained alkaloids. saponins. flavonoids. and glycosides. With doses of 150 mg. 300 mg. and 450 mg proven to reduce blood sugar levels (KGD) in streptozotocin-induced Wistar rats. The highest dose in reducing blood sugar levels (KGD) with a dose of 450 mg. The group with a dose of 300 mg showed the best results in increasing the diameter of the islets of Langerhans.

Abstract

Eel fish (Anguilla marmorata (Q.) Gaimard) oil is a valuable source of health-promoting unsaturated fatty acids. Adsorbent selection during the bleaching stage of fish oil purification can significantly impact the final product quality.  This study aimed to evaluate the impact of different adsorbents on the quality of refined eel fish (Anguilla marmorata (Q.) Gaimard) oil. Eel fish oil was extracted using Soxhlet extraction with diethyl ether and purified through degumming, neutralization, and bleaching stages. Various adsorbents (bentonite, magnesol XL, and zeolite) were employed at different concentrations (1% bentonite, 3% magnesol XL, and 5% & 10% zeolite activated by acid and base) to remove impurities. The refined oils were analyzed for physical, chemical, and microbiological properties. Results showed that all adsorbents effectively improved the quality of eel fish oil, meeting most International Fish Oil Standard (IFOS) and Indonesian National Standard (SNI - 8467:2018) criteria. However, density and iodine values were below the specified limits. Microbiological analysis confirmed the absence of contamination, but lead levels exceeded the permissible standard.

Abstract

Low nutrient along with intense sunlight levels in sandy drylands, often lead to poor crops yield. This study examined the effects of soil amendments and shading on the yield of red chili plants cultivated in a sandy (70% sand, 15% clay and 15% silt) dryland environment. The experiment was conducted in Gumantar Village, North Lombok Regency from May to September 2024. The C-organic content of the soil was 1.11% with only 0.09% of total nitrogen. The soil amendment treatments included no soil amendment, chicken manure, and seaweed biochar. The shading treatments consisted of two levels: no shading and shading using a 200-micron UV plastic with 14% diffusive ultraviolet ray. All treatments were arranged factorially using a randomized block design with three replications. The results indicated that soil amendments and shading did not significantly affect plant growth, certain soil chemical properties, or microbial populations, possibly due to its short time effect. However, both types of soil amendments and UV plastic shading increased the yield of red chili plants by approximately 6.0% compared to the treatment without any amendments or without shading. This study shows that soil amendment and shading with UV plastic improve tomato yield in sandy dryland soils.

Abstract

The yield of tomato plants in dryland areas has been suboptimal due to environmental constraints such as poor soil health and high sunlight intensity. Appropriate agronomic modifications are necessary to improve crop yields while maintaining soil health. This study investigated the impact of various agronomic modification treatments on the growth and yield of tomato plants in dryland regions. The experiment was conducted in Gumantar Village, North Lombok Regency, during the dry season from June to August 2023. The agronomic modifications included a seaweed biochar treatment at a rate of 10 tons per hectare and 45% shading, with a control group that had no modifications. Three treatments were tested on two varieties of tomato plants: hybrid and local superior. The treatments were organized with four replications in a randomized complete block design with split plots, where agronomic modifications served as the main plots and the tomato varieties as the subplots. The results indicated that the interaction of agronomic modifications and plant varieties impacted the growth of tomato plants and various environmental factors. The hybrid variety under shading treatment exhibited the best growth. Additionally, this hybrid variety produced 59.6% more fruit than the local superior variety, yielding an average of 66 fruits and weighing 3.00 kg per plant. This study suggests that incorporating agronomic modifications, such as biochar treatment and selecting the appropriate variety, can enhance tomato yields in dryland areas.
