Abstract

Mathematics is closely related to science because both require the ability to analyze, think logically, and systematically to understand. This study explores students' level of abstraction thinking in understanding the concept of exponent numbers and its implementation in science. This research uses a qualitative approach. The subjects in this study were students of the master's program in basic education. The data collection techniques used were tests and interviews. The results showed differences in identifying exponent numbers in low and high abstraction level students. Low abstraction level students perform problem-solving stages, such as identifying and writing down every information listed in the problem, using mathematical symbolization, performing number operations according to problem understanding, and checking again. Meanwhile, high abstraction level students performed problem-solving stages, such as identifying every piece of information in the problem without writing it on the worksheet, not writing the results of their understanding explicitly on the worksheet, not writing explicitly the model to be used, performing number operations without paying attention to the type of number because they already understood and they made a conclusion. Both level students applied the concept of exponent numbers in science for writing units and density.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program in private universities in Banten Province, Indonesia, emphasizing the importance of a well-structured curriculum for effective learning outcomes.  The policy enables students to engage in various activities outside their majors, enhancing both technical and soft skills essential for workforce readiness. Despite its positive reception, challenges in the assessment conversion process have been identified, particularly the lack of involvement from study program leaders and course lecturers in evaluating student performance. This study employs the R&D method using the ADDIE model to develop a web-based integration system aimed at streamlining and improving the evaluation of student achievements in the MBKM program. The findings indicate that this system enhances monitoring, transparency, and accountability in assessment, fostering better collaboration among lecturers, students, and partner institutions. Moreover, the web-based system alleviates administrative burdens, allowing lecturers to focus on enriching student learning experiences. This research underscores the necessity for continuous evaluation of the MBKM program to align competencies with academic curricula, ultimately contributing to the quality of higher education and the successful integration of students into the workforce. Recommendations for further development of the integration system and enhanced training for lecturers are provided to optimize its impact on educational outcomes.

Abstract

Koi fish (Cyprinus carpio) is a type of freshwater ornamental fish with significant economic value, attracting widespread public interest due to its vibrant colors and agile movements. Therefore, this study introduces a novel approach by evaluating the antibacterial activity of bitter melon extract fraction (Momordica charantia) against A. salmonicida infection in koi fish and its impact on gill histopathology. The novelty of this study lies in the exploration of bitter melon extract fraction as a natural, eco-friendly antibacterial alternative to synthetic antibiotics in aquaculture. This research is crucial as it addresses the growing global concern over antibiotic resistance and the urgent need for sustainable, natural solutions in fish health management. Antibacterial tests were conducted to assess the ability of the bitter melon extract to inhibit bacterial growth, while histopathological analysis aimed to observe the specific changes in gill tissues of infected koi fish. The results revealed that the bitter melon extract fraction significantly reduced bacterial count and improved gill tissue integrity. Histopathological improvements were observed, including reduced hyperplasia, lamellar fusion, edema, and necrosis, indicating tissue recovery. This finding highlights the potential of bitter melon extract fraction as a natural antibacterial agent for controlling bacterial infections in fish, offering an alternative to chemical antibiotics. Further research is needed to determine the optimal dosage and to explore its antibacterial mechanism, ensuring its safe and effective application in aquaculture.

Abstract

The increasing workload, attributed to a high number of patients and limited human resources, is a major cause of stress among nurses. This stress can lead to burnout syndrome, characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and a decrease in personal accomplishment, ultimately affecting the quality of nursing care provided to patients. Instances of nurse stress are not confined to a single country but are prevalent in various countries such as China, Australia, India, and Dubai. Elevated levels of stress among nurses can result in serious consequences, including physical and mental disorders like anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, and other health issues, potentially escalating to suicide risk. The aim of this research is to determine the outcomes of a literature review concerning the utilization of Mindfulness therapy in managing nurse stress in hospitals. This study entails a literature review sourced from the PubMed, Scopus, and Proquest databases. Articles were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, where inclusion criteria spanned from 2018 to 2023. The search yielded 6 articles filtered using PRISMA guidelines. This research aimed to identify articles on stress management methods for nurses that met the inclusion criteria. Mindfulness therapy proves to be beneficial for reducing stress among nurses in hospital settings and offers motivation to consider its incorporation into clinical practice and health programs within healthcare institutions.

Abstract

Problem-solving skills are essential for students to navigate both academic challenges and real-world situations effectively. However, many junior high school students struggle to develop these skills, particularly in science education. This study aims to explore the effects of gamification, using Classcraft, integrated into the 5E Learning Cycle model on the science problem-solving skills of seventh-grade students. Conducted as a quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design, the research involved a cluster random sample of public junior high schools in Yogyakarta. A pretest-posttest problem-solving skills test was administered, with instruments validated using Pearson correlation and reliability measured through Cronbach's alpha. Data analysis employed independent sample t-tests and effect size to determine the impact of the intervention. The results demonstrate that Classcraft-assisted gamification within the 5E Learning Cycle significantly enhances students' problem-solving abilities. This suggests that integrating gamification into instructional models not only boosts engagement but also fosters critical thinking skills crucial for everyday decision-making and problem resolution, thereby equipping students with practical skills applicable to real-life situations.

Abstract

The bagan boat is a type of fishing gear that utilizes light to attract schools of fish, either through positive phototaxis or by luring fish searching for food around the light. This method is particularly effective for catching pelagic species such as anchovies, tuna, and squid. This study evaluates the financial feasibility of operating bagan boat fishing gear in Bone Bay, South Sulawesi, through several key financial indicators, including Profit/Loss Analysis, Payback Period (PP), Net Present Value (NPV), and Revenue Cost Ratio (R/C Ratio). The analysis of the operational costs revealed total costs amounting to Rp 487,826,666, which include depreciation, maintenance, and operational expenses. The total revenue generated from the operation was Rp 951,243,999, resulting in a Revenue Cost Ratio (R/C ratio) of 1.95, indicating profitability. The Payback Period (PP) was calculated at 1.56 years, demonstrating a relatively quick return on investment. Additionally, the Net Present Value (NPV) was found to be Rp 1,078,386,238, confirming that the investment generates positive returns. Based on these findings, the operation of bagan boat fishing gear is deemed financially viable, profitable, and sustainable, with strong potential for future growth and development.

Abstract

Imbowiari Forest in Barawai Village, Yapen, Papua, has complex flora and fauna biodiversity, including as a habitat for Paradisaea minor jobiensis. In Papua, especially the Yapen Islands Regency, endemic species such as Paradisaea minor jobiensis are the main attraction for tourists. Managed by the community through local wisdom and the Dorey Jaya group, this area has the potential to be developed as birdwatching ecotourism. However, it has not been widely popular with tourists. This study aims to analyze changes in the vegetation of the bird's habitat for three periods (2014, 2018, and 2024) and provide recommendations for ecotourism management in Barawai. Vegetation structure and composition data were collected using the grid line method and analyzed using PAST software. The results showed an increase in the number of species at all vegetation levels, especially seedlings (21 species in 2014 to 72 in 2024), saplings (27 to 64), poles (26 to 76), and trees (41 to 96). The number of individuals also increased significantly, especially on saplings and poles. The diversity index also increased, especially at the tree level (2.78 to 4.07). This study indicates an increase in overall vegetation, with recommendations for optimizing ecotourism management based on biodiversity and local wisdom.
