Abstract

Lesson study is a classroom learning system in which several teachers collaboratively plan, teach, observe, revise, and deliver the output from one class. Regarding the lesson study implementation, teachers wisely explore how students learn, think, and change their behavior as an outcome of learning. Lesson Study implementation may lead to teaching improvement as teachers become more knowledgeable on how their students learn and think as well as how the instruction affects their students’ thinking. During the lesson design phase, teachers exchange ideas about how students might react to each part of the lesson. This paper presents a series of codes theoretically based on systematic documentation from teachers’ various learning and change aspects (knowledge and beliefs, professional learning communities, resources) in the cross-context lesson studies. Following the lesson observation research, teachers critically analyze collected data regarding the students learning and draw evidence-based implications to improve teaching instruction. This paper describes the influence of Lesson Study as an attempt to improve third-grade students’ writing skills. Data are collected through observation, interview, field notes, and direct practice. The implementation results of the Lesson Study for the third-grade students from February 2nd to March 7th, 2023, indicate that writing enhancement with capital capability increased to 12.68%, the use of punctuation was 21.43%, and the formation of simple patterned sentences was 1,12%. Nevertheless, the use of standard vocabulary decreased to 0.39%. Meanwhile, the observations during the process indicate the overall data of Lesson Study implementation as an attempt to increase students’ writing skills at 3.11%. Abstract

In school, the teacher must be a role model for students with a good attitude during the learning process so that behavioral deviations do not occur, such as bullying against students and co-workers in educational practice. Deviant behaviors can be imitation material for students, which impacts the teacher's low ethics in teaching. This research aims to analyze the roles of good teacher ethics in the growth of students' character and habits. This type of research is qualitative research. The participants in this study were 17 teachers in an elementary school with at least 10 years of teaching experience. They collect data using data collection techniques, documentation, observation, and interviews. Data analysis uses an interactive model from Miles & Huberman, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and concluding. The results of the study show that the teacher's ethics as a role model are shown in their words, attitudes, and personality, such as politeness, discipline, responsibility, tolerance, honesty, and caring for students and others that have been implemented by teachers and have a good influence on student character through habituation. Factors that support student character development include the school community's commitment, curriculum content standards, principal leadership, togetherness, and tolerance. The teacher's ethical values are central values that can be role models for students in communicating and behaving to help grow student character in today's developments.

Abstract

The school literacy movement has become an important focus for improving the quality of education in Indonesia. One of the problems that contributes to the decline in students' understanding of the learning process is the low interest in reading among students in Indonesia. This research involved 15 elementary school teachers and three main literacy figures. This research aims to analyze the implementation of the GELIS (School Literacy Movement) program in elementary schools. This research uses the CIPP approach, and this type of research is called descriptive evaluation. Data collection was mainly carried out through surveys, which included observation, interviews, and distributing questionnaires to research participants. The findings show that the implementation of the program was carried out using methods and strategies, namely preliminary studies, objectives, and division into several aspects of literacy, namely habituation, development, and learning programs. The results of the CIPP evaluation show that the context is in accordance with the objectives of character building and increasing student literacy, the input uses standard facilities and infrastructure but needs improvements in aspects of teacher resources, and the process is in line with expectations. The planning stages and sorting activities based on aspects and products had a positive impact, namely increasing literacy for both students and teachers, with an increase in the percentage of those in the category who "always" read a book for 15 minutes from 21.4% to 92%. And for teachers in the "always" category, the indicator of finding literacy teaching methods is effective from 7.14%, rising to 92%.

Abstract

This study investigates students’ commognitive processes—the integration of communication and cognition—during problem-based learning (PBL) in mathematics. It is grounded in commognitive theory, which posits that thinking and communication are interdependent. An exploratory descriptive approach was applied at SMA Muhammadiyah Bangkinang, focusing on students in class XI IPA 2. Using purposive sampling, three students representing high, moderate, and low mathematical abilities were selected. Data were collected through written tests, interviews, and documentation. Researcher-developed worksheets and interview protocols, aligned with the four commognitive components—word use, visual mediators, narratives, and routines—were validated by mathematics education experts. Data analysis followed the stages of collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Findings indicate that high-ability students demonstrated more coherent narratives and consistent application of mathematical routines. Conversely, students with moderate and low abilities exhibited fragmented discourse and less effective use of visual mediators and terminology. The study highlights the role of commognitive factors in shaping students' mathematical discourse across ability levels. It suggests that instructional tools designed with commognitive principles can better support the development of mathematical thinking. These insights contribute to understanding the cognitive-communicative dynamics in mathematics education and inform the design of targeted learning interventions. Ethical approval was obtained, and informed consent was secured from all participants.
