Abstract

This study investigates social withdrawal among fatherless female students and examines intervention strategies for this issue. A qualitative clinical case study design with two participants. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis. The analysis involved data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. Both participants showed social withdrawal, demonstrated by limited peer interaction, avoidance of communication with teachers and classmates, and low engagement in learning. Key factors included fatherlessness, family trauma, low self-confidence, and lack of emotional support. The intervention was individual counseling using a humanistic framework, specifically Person-Centered Therapy, in eight sessions. Outcomes included more openness, better communication, and greater participation in school activities. The study concludes Person-Centered Therapy effectively reduces social withdrawal by fostering self-acceptance and emotional support. These results may guide school counselors in developing counseling services for similar students.

Abstract

Cultural intelligence is essential for school counselors to provide effective multicultural counseling. This study examines the cultural intelligence levels of guidance and counseling teachers in East Java, Indonesia, focusing on its four dimensions: metacognitive, cognitive, motivational, and behavioral. The research aims to assess their ability to address diverse student needs in multicultural contexts. Using a survey method, data were collected from 328 school counselors through the Cultural Intelligence Scale, comprising 20 items. Descriptive analysis categorized participants' cultural intelligence levels and identified strengths and areas needing improvement. Results showed that 66.70% of participants had high cultural intelligence, 33% moderate, and 0.30% low. Most counselors excelled in motivational and behavioral dimensions, demonstrating strong adaptability and willingness to engage with cultural diversity. However, variability in the cognitive dimension suggests a need for further development in cultural understanding. This study concludes that cultural intelligence is a vital competency for inclusive and adaptive counseling services. Targeted training programs are recommended to address gaps, particularly in cognitive skills, to enhance counselors' effectiveness in multicultural settings. These findings provide valuable insights for developing strategies to strengthen cultural competencies in educational counseling practices, ensuring services meet the diverse needs of students.

Abstract

In Indonesia, shopaholic behavior is often regarded as normal rather than as a disorder. However, compulsive shopping that is not based on actual needs warrants greater attention. Purchasing items without considering financial capacity, driven by fear of missing out on social trends or the belief that shopping alleviates stress, are common characteristics of this behavior. When these actions are repeated, they can develop into persistent and excessive habits. Individuals may experience discomfort if they do not make daily purchases. Maladaptive consequences range from mild symptoms such as anxiety and irritability to more severe outcomes, including stealing money and uncontrolled borrowing from online lending platforms. The present study aims to clarify the conceptualization of shopaholic behavior as a disruptive disorder based on previous research, and to identify potential interventions for its management. A systematic review was conducted by analyzing 20 articles, including journals and prior studies, selected using the PRISMA flowchart. The findings indicate that all reviewed studies classify shopaholic behavior as a behavioral disorder rooted in cognitive distortions. Shopaholic behavior constitutes an addiction that can adversely impact an individual's life and requires targeted interventions.

Abstract

This research is aimed at analyzing the level of understanding of guidance and counseling teachers towards the code of ethics of the counselor profession and how they apply it in schools where they are assigned as guidance and counseling teachers. Understanding the professional code of ethics listed in ABKIN is very important for guidance and counseling teachers or school counselors to understand and apply with the aim of avoiding possible malpractice actions. The method used in this study is the SLR (system literature review) method which examines and discusses previous studies and draws conclusions from a discussion. The results of this literature review prove that the understanding of guidance and counseling teachers or school counselors on the code of ethics influences the provision of guidance and counseling services in schools. The higher the percentage of guidance and counseling teachers' understanding of the code of ethics, the better the implementation of guidance and counseling services and vice versa.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of Holland's theory in career planning for students through career guidance at school. Holland's theory, which divides human personality into six types (Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional), can be used to help students understand the match between their personality type and the appropriate work environment. With this approach, it is expected that students can choose a more purposeful career path, reduce dissatisfaction, and increase the potential for future success. This research uses the literature study method by collecting and analyzing the results of previous research related to the application of Holland's theory in career guidance. The results show that although Holland's theory provides a clear framework in helping students plan careers, its implementation requires a deep understanding from counselors as well as environmental support such as family and education. In addition, web-based technology can increase the accessibility of personality assessment for students, but still requires proper guidance from counselors to ensure effective use. Overall, the application of Holland's theory in career guidance can provide significant benefits in helping students plan a career that is more in line with their potential and aspirations.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of cognitive restructuring techniques in helping a student recover from the psychological impact of cyber grooming. The intervention focuses on reducing cognitive distortions, restoring emotional stability, and strengthening the student's confidence after experiencing online manipulation. This Research uses a qualitative case study design. The subject is a male student who exhibited fear, shame, and negative assumptions about his reputation after the incident. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using a thematic approach. The results show that the student experienced several cognitive distortions, including self-blame and exaggerated fear of social judgment. Through six counseling sessions using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, the student identified irrational thoughts, challenged them, and replaced them with more realistic and balanced thinking. Improvements were also seen in emotional regulation, social interaction, and motivation to return to normal activities. The study concludes that cognitive restructuring is effective for helping victims of cyber grooming manage distorted thoughts and reduce emotional distress. Future research is encouraged to explore similar interventions with larger samples, compare different counseling approaches, and examine long-term outcomes after treatment.
