Abstract

Through language, humans convey utterances about thoughts, ideas, and feelings. Communication is not just sending language through words but also through behavior or actions. Human actions when uttering utterances are called speech acts. In this study, we will discuss directive speech acts. Directive speech acts are speech acts performed by speakers so that speakers perform the actions mentioned in the utterance. Directive speech acts include those of ordering, inviting, asking, begging, suggesting, advising, and advising. Research related to directive speech acts in the television program Master Chef Indonesia Galeri 8 uses descriptive methods in the form of qualitative research. There are two data analysis methods used in this study. The method of providing the data used in this research is the listening method with the free-engagement speaking technique and the note-taking technique. Directive illocutionary speech acts are divided into five types, namely, commanding, ordering, advising, recommending, and begging. The data found is classified based on the existing speech acts. In the discussion section, the results of the analysis of each piece of data displayed have been presented. In this study, a number of data have been found which have been analyzed and classified based on the form of the utterances made.

Abstract

Cultural history of some places is sometimes difficult to recognize its original culture, one of which is due to transformation of some buildings in the area. Because of that, the origin will be spoiled and forgotten because local cultural shift is an inevitable social phenomenon. Cultural and historical tours through walking tours are one of ways to keep the story of a region unabated. Besides, the benefit of walking tours is also being a positive cultural exchange between local communities and visitors. Cirebon was a small village built by King of Tapa. In the course of time, it grew into a large village and it was named Caruban (means united according to the mixture of nations and other tribes such as Java, Chinese, and Arabic from Javanese Language). The goal of walking tour in context of cultural tourism is to remember, introduce, and promote original culture of an area in Cirebon City.

Abstract

This paper focuses on Max Scheler's value philosophy of the Bonet traditional dance originating from the Meto tribe in West Timor, East Nusa Tenggara. Bonet dance is a traditional dance full of meaning as a place to express praise and gratitude to the Almighty for the blessings and protection that the Meto people always receive in their lives. This traditional dance that is rich in meaning and philosophical value is gradually difficult to find again, because of the existence of modern Western dances such as Dancing and Dugem which are very popular and more desirable in Timor. The purpose of this paper is to find the values that exist in this dance from the point of view of Max Scheler's philosophy of value. In this writing, the author uses the library research method to support the validity of this scientific work. The values of Bonet dance in Max Scheler's perspective are divided into four parts, namely: The value of pleasure is the lowest level that has to do with the function of sensory feelings, which includes the satisfaction and happiness of the Meto people in performing Bonet dance; The value of vitality in this dance is the creation of harmony in the group of Meto people; The value of spirituality which consists of a combination of all components of music, dance movements, and costumes as a form of total self-giving to God; The value of sanctity is the value with the highest position in the form of an expression of deep gratitude to the Creator expressed by the Creator.

Abstract

LINE Webtoon is a popular digital comic platform in Indonesia that accommodates the work of local comic artists, one of which is a comic titled Nusantara Droid War (NDW). The comic carries a glocal spirit by raising the diversity of Indonesian culture through the depiction of droid characters and present them with a typical Japanese-style shonen manga plot. The intertwining of various folklore and culture of the archipelago with the popular narrative of shnen manga shows the existence of intertextuality. Therefore, this study was structured to examine the intertextuality of NDW in webtoon characters and narratives by applying Roland Barthes' postulates regarding the Five Codes of semiotic elements in texts to interpret intertextuality that is embodied in a series of lexia in NDW. The results of this study indicate that the Nusantara Droid War (NDW) text is a readerly text, although it is not absolute. The intertextuality depicted through the Five Codes: hermeneutic, proairetic, semantic, symbolic, and cultural/referential is dominated by texts originating from the Mahabharata story, legends from Indonesian folklore, and Japanese shounen anime or manga. In this case, referential code contributes the most in lexia, which also indicates that cultural texts play an important role in NDW text building. The discourse of intertextuality leads the NDW reading process to reject the 'artificial thing', namely the market logic that positions popularity and ownership of capital as the main goal in the world of entertainment, including the battle between droids in NDW.

Abstract

This study examines the representation of the Western world displayed in the daily lives of Japanese people through the character Aku, an Indonesian man who once lived in Europe. This study aims to describe the forms of representation of the Western world carried out by the character Aku so that there will be an effort to internalize Western culture in his life. This research is a descriptive qualitative study with a literature review method using Edward Said's post-colonial perspective. The data collection technique uses reading and note-taking techniques. The object of this research is a translated short story entitled Nihon no Kotowaza which was translated in 2022. The results of the study revealed that indications of the habits of the character Aku who often incorporated Western culture into the life of a Japanese female character, such as watching Western films, watching baseball, drinking beer with American soldiers, and often playing Western songs. That was done because the character Aku was accustomed to life in Europe, so when he was in Japan, these habits were carried over and he tried to incorporate the culture into his close female friends. The internalization of Western culture towards female characters gradually influenced the habits of Japanese women in carrying out their daily lives, although it did not eliminate their original identities. This made female characters carry out two cultures at once in their lives. Based on the study's results, it can be concluded that Western culture has become part of Japanese culture itself. Western cultural customs that are accepted and implemented in society are a form of negotiation between the West and the East.
