Abstract

This research aims to identify the types of slang words used by the characters in Mean Girls (2024) and analyse their functions through social dimensions. This research applied a qualitative approach, with data collected from the dialogues of the four main characters: Regina, Cady, Gretchen and Karen, focusing on slang expression found in their conversations. The slang words were classified based on Allan and Burridge’s (2006) theory, which includes Fresh and Creative, Flippant, Imitative, Acronym, and Clipping. Additionally, Holmes’ (2013) social dimension theory was used to explore how slang functioned in different social contexts, particularly in terms of solidarity, status, formality, and functional meaning. From the analysis, the findings showed that all five slang types appeared in the film, each serving different purposes depending on the situation. Some slang words were used to establish group identity and reinforce friendships, while others helped characters reinforce dominance or add humor. Moreover, the use of slang was not only a reflection of informal speech but also a means of strengthening friendships, gaining control, and maintaining social identity.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the use of figurative language in the dialogues of the film Inside Out 2 (2024). The research used a qualitative descriptive method to describe the types of figurative language based on Perrine’s theory. The data consisted of words and phrases found in the dialogues spoken by the two main characters, Joy and Anxiety. The data was collected by repeatedly watching and observing the film, capturing relevant scenes, highlighting dialogues that exhibited figurative language, analyzing and classifying the types of figurative language. The study revealed six types of figurative language: metaphor, apostrophe, synecdoche, metonymy, hyperbole, and irony, with irony appearing as the most frequently type. The findings showed that figurative language in the film functioned not only as a stylistic effect but also as a means to represent emotional complexity in a more concrete and relatable form. By examining the film’s stylistic choices, the study demonstrated how figurative expressions contributed to deeper character portrayal and emotional nuance, especially in reflecting the internal struggles of Riley as she undergoes emotional development. This research contributes to the field of stylistics by illustrating how figurative language can be effectively used in animated films to visualize abstract emotions and enhance audience understanding.

Abstract

Kajian semiotika merupakan konsep yang menjadikan tanda sebagai sebuah fenomena komunikasi sosial maupun budaya. Endank Soekamti menggunakan tanda-tanda ini untuk menggambarkan fenomena sosial yang ada di masyarakat pada album Soekamti.com. Penelitian ini membahas mengenai makna cinta yang ada di dalam lirik lagu ciptaan Endank Soekamti. Rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini mengenai makna denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos serta makna cinta yang ada pada kumpulan lirik lagu tersebut. Tujuan dilakukannya penelitian ini ialah mendeskripsikan makna denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos serta makna cinta yang ada pada lirik lagu dalam album Soekamti.com. Adapun makna cinta dalam penelitian ini diperoleh dari pemaknaan mitos menggunakan teori semiotika Roland Barthes.Jenis penelitian yang dilakukan ialah penelitian kepustakaan dengan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Data penelitian yang digunakan berupa frasa dan klausa dengan sumber data berupa kumpulan lirik lagu yang terdapat di dalam album Soekamti.com. Lokasi penelitian ini bersifat opsional dalam artian tidak terikat dengan lokasi apapun dan dapat dilakukan di mana saja. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik observasi dan teknik dokumentasi.Hasil penelitian ini terdapat makna cinta di dalam lagu Audisi, Masih Merdeka, Satria Bergitar, Jurus Jitu, Semoga Kau Dineraka, serta Berkibar Tinggi. Dalam album Soekamti.com cinta tidak hanya dimaknai sebagai romansa yang indah, namun juga emosi yang kompleks. Selain itu, mitos yang ada di masyarakat juga menjadi pendukung akan pemaknaan cinta yang ada pada album ini.Kata kunci: Album Soekamti.com, Lirik Lagu, Makna Cinta, Semiotika

Abstract

This research mainly focused on the representation of nature and the human-nature relationship in the film Jungle Cruise (2021), which was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra through the characters that involved with nature around them by using ecocriticism theory by Glotfelty and Garrard. The researcher used qualitative research in the form of explanations and descriptions. This film focused on the journey of Frank, Lily, and McGregor in the Amazon to find the legendary tree “The Tears of the Moon”. The data used in this research were the dialogues and actions of the characters that represented the ecocriticism. The data were collected by repeatedly watching the Jungle Cruise, focusing on the dialogue, scenes, and highlighting the events that indicated. This research used an ecocriticism approach to identify the representation of nature and the human-nature relationship. The analysis of this data showed Jungle Cruise film represents nature through wilderness, dwelling, and animals, and the human-nature relationship through the coexistence, provision, and nature exploitation.

Abstract

Environmental art is used as a mechanism to engage awareness in building environmental understanding and music provides some affective components of environmental education – emotions, values, and motivations driving pro-environmental behavior. Punk rock creates a sense of community and awareness through the lyrics. It is no longer about resistance to rigid, feudal systems and criticism of authoritarians, but also moves in responding to environmental issues, which is an interesting study to explore. This study aimed to explore how the ecological perspective in punk music by looking at the Jakarta punk band called Speak Up in responding to environmental issues. The initial analysis of 3 Speak Up songs; Suara Bumi, Balada Tanah Merah, and Puisi Bumi are to be analyzed. Based on literature review, theoretical basis and data obtained from observation and documentation of Ecological Perspective, the writer found that the disharmonic relationship between human and nature that showed ecological matters. Ecological Perspective is a way to understand how history, justice, and power intersect with any form of knowledge, and in this context how the lyrics deal with environmental issues and urban environmental injustices. Abstract

This study examines a speech delivered by Abdul Mu'ti, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, on behalf of the Government of Indonesia at UNESCO’s 43rd General Conference on 4 November 2025, using the social practice dimension as the analytical framework. The data consist of the official speech manuscript. The analysis relies on close analytical reading of the speech to connect language choices and statement content with institutional legitimacy, diplomatic norms, and Indonesia’s position in global governance. The findings indicate that the use of Bahasa Indonesia functions as a normal and accepted part of the UNESCO forum, not simply as a ceremonial or symbolic language act. In this context, Bahasa Indonesia is used as a practical language for official communication and is maintained across the speech’s substantive sections. The speech builds credibility by referring to education as a right, presenting enrollment figures, and naming policy programs, presenting Indonesia’s actions as aligned with global goals while keeping a formal diplomatic tone. It also places Indonesia within UNESCO-related fields beyond education, including science, the environment, culture, and communication, and follows common diplomatic routines such as expressing gratitude and showing solidarity. The closing use of an Indonesian cultural form, pantun, fits the formal setting, showing that cultural expression can be present in an international forum without undermining official authority.

Abstract

Penelitian ini difokuskan pada analisis bentuk sinestetik sebagai hasil perseptual dalam karya tari kontemporer Ibulbu Belu: Bodies of Border (IBUBOB) yang dipentaskan di Teater Besar ISI Surakarta tahun 2022. Urgensi studi ini didasarkan pada fakta bahwa kajian sebelumnya cenderung menganalisis dimensi tari, musik, dan ruang secara terpisah, serta belum memposisikan gejala sinestetik sebagai fokus kajian utama. Penelitian ini mengajukan argumen bahwa bentuk sinestetik adalah sebuah konstruksi perseptual yang dikonstruksi secara kausal oleh strategi koreomusikal dan teknologi pemanggungan. Metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan analisis konten dua-tahap (formalis dan resepsi) diterapkan, menggunakan data rekaman audio-visual, observasi, wawancara, dan studi pustaka berupa narasi audiens. Penelitian menemukan hasil dua penyebab utama. Pertama, strategi koreomusikal yang mengintegrasikan body percussion dan instrumen Tihar dalam pola ritmis paralel dan unison. Kedua, desain pemanggungan yang memanfaatkan lantai kayu parkit berlapis vynil sebagai instrumen perkusif pasif dan sonifikasi melalui mic condensor yang mengubah bunyi kinetik subtil (hentakan kaki) menjadi lanskap suara imersif. Temuan membuktikan bahwa kedua elemen teknis ini secara sistematis mengarahkan persepsi audiens, yang termanifestasi dalam narasi sinestetik seperti detak jantung kolektif. Disimpulkan bahwa bentuk sinestetik adalah akibat perseptual yang dapat dirancang secara sadar oleh seniman melalui keputusan teknis yang terintegrasi.  Kata kunci: Bentuk, Sinestetik, Tari Kontemporer, IBUBOB, Sonifikasi.
