Abstract

The purpose of this study was to obtain an overview of the application of information search models used by students in Bandung. The informants who participated were students at secondary schools. Eighteen students were selected as informants from each school. The schools selected for the study were SMPN 15, SMPN 29, SMPN 40, SMAN 15, SMA Sumatra 40, and SMA Kartika XIX-2. A qualitative research approach was used, with a case study method and purposive sampling. The results of the study show that, in general, the stages used in searching for information are carried out in three major stages, namely Starting, planning by organizing the steps in searching for information, and determining the subject to be used in searching for information. Analyzing, selecting the information to be used, analyzing the information obtained, storing unnecessary information, and using the necessary information. Evaluating, at this stage, students know when the information will be presented again, and the presentation of information is adjusted to the tasks and needs. On average, students search for information through the internet using Google search or social media. The information sought is mostly related to school assignments. This research advances this field by revealing patterned deviations from Ellis' model related to digital literacy levels.

Abstract

This study examines the social discourse surrounding the impact of online gaming using Metro TV’s Instagram news posts as the primary data source. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach supported by Voyant Tools, the research identifies dominant lexical patterns and relational structures within public commentary. Word cloud analysis highlights “game” and “online” as the most frequent terms, indicating that online gaming constitutes the core focus of public concern. Additional prominent terms such as “judol,” “judi,” and “bocah” reveal strong associations between online gaming, online gambling, and youth involvement. Trend analysis further demonstrates fluctuating frequencies of key terms “online game,” “online judi,” and “online online” suggesting shifting narrative emphasis across document segments. Network analysis shows close lexical associations among “game,” “online,” “judol,” and “judi,” reflecting public perceptions that link gaming activity with financial risk and deviant behaviors. Collectively, these findings demonstrate that online gaming is viewed not merely as a digital entertainment activity but as a multidimensional social issue intertwined with gambling practices, economic vulnerability, and concerns for adolescent well-being.

Abstract

In the advertising industry, the media plays an important role in shaping public perceptions of beauty standards, including in Indonesia. Representations of women in advertisements are often depicted with ideal images centered on fair skin. Although advertisements now often feature representations of diversity, these standards are still made subtly in the media. This study discusses the contradictory messages contained in the Citra advertisement version “Pancarkan Ragam Cantik Kulit Indonesia” using Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic method. This research is a qualitative study using a constructivism paradigm approach with text analysis. The purpose of this study is to uncover the hidden meanings in advertisements using Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic method with Jacques Derrida's deconstruction theory. The results of the study show contradictory messages in the representation of diversity raised in this advertisement. Although Citra highlights the diversity of Indonesian skin color beauty, the presence of visuals such as placing light-skinned women as the main focus, the use of skin lightening ingredients such as bengkuang and niacinamide in Citra products as the main selling point, animations of skin color changes towards lighter, the appearance of characters who have dark skin characters with the label "Glowing Skin" still refers to the standard of beauty of light skin. This advertisement has not completely deconstructed the standard of beauty, but rather reproduces it in a new and more subtle form in selling its products.

Abstract

Stunting continues to pose a significant public health challenge in Indonesia, particularly in the Kebon Kacang Subdistrict of Central Jakarta. This research is purposed to measure the effectiveness of communication style of health cadres through local culture on awareness of stunting among mothers. The study used a quantitative method of 50 respondents through accidental sampling. The theoretical framework comprised the Communicator Style Theory (Norton), Local Culture (Koentjaraningrat), and the Health Belief Model (Rosenstock). The correlation and linear regression analyses demonstrate that the communication style of health cadres significantly impacts stunting awareness (β = 0.702), while local culture also exhibits a positive correlation with stunting awareness (r = 0.628, p < .001). The coefficient of determination indicatess that the model accounts for the dependent variable effectively, as reflected by an R Square value of 0.752. These findings indicate that communication style through local culture can enhance mother’s understanding and awareness in efforts to prevent stunting more effectively.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of prophetic communication in the leadership of the Student Activity Unit (UKM) HIQMA at UIN Raden Intan Lampung. Prophetic communication is based on three main pillars: humanization (amar ma’ruf), liberation (nahi munkar), and transcendence (tu’minuna billah). The research employed a descriptive qualitative method, using interviews, observations, and documentation as data collection techniques. The informants consisted of active administrators, alumni leaders, and members of UKM HIQMA selected through purposive sampling. The findings indicate that humanization is reflected in empathetic leadership, attention to members’ needs, and mentoring, which foster emotional closeness and organizational loyalty. Liberation is evident in the way leaders provide constructive criticism in a gentle and respectful manner, enabling members to grow with confidence. Transcendence appears through the integration of worship values such as prayer, dhikr, and Qur’anic recitation into organizational activities, which strengthens members’ spiritual motivation. Overall, prophetic leadership in UKM HIQMA successfully creates a humane, ethical, and spiritual organizational culture, proving the relevance of prophetic communication within student organizations.

Abstract

Ruang Refleksi Online (RRO), or Online Reflection Room, is one of Halo Jiwa Indonesia’s online-based counseling services, providing emotional support to people since the COVID-19 pandemic. This online-based counseling is a free and non-professional service provided by peer counselors from Halo Jiwa Indonesia members, which was held in 2020. This study aims to know how the client manages their privacy rules in peer counseling, according to five criteria of Communication Privacy Management in boundary rules, which are culture, motivation, context, gender, and risk-benefit ratio. This research type is a qualitative method with a case study approach. Four clients were chosen from purposive sampling with a specific category. From this study, it can be concluded that clients of Ruang Refleksi Online created their privacy rule according to their motivation, contextual, and risk-benefit ratio factors. This determines how much self-disclosure they can share with the peer counselor during interpersonal communication in the counseling session. The clients could also feel the positive impact, such as feeling calmer and relieved from Ruang Refleksi Online

Abstract

Inclusive higher education in Indonesia still faces significant challenges in providing accessible digital communication for students with low vision. Learning Management Systems (LMS) are not only repositories of course content but also key mediated communication channels where lecturers, institutions, and students exchange information and feedback. When these platforms are inaccessible, the problem becomes communication inequality that restricts students’ rights to receive and express information. This study explores accessibility barriers experienced by low vision students in universities across Bandung Raya, focusing on their interaction with LMS interfaces, messages, and media formats. Using a constructivist paradigm and an intrinsic case study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed with Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. Findings reveal three main communication-related accessibility issues: inconsistent visual layout and low-contrast interfaces, inadequate keyboard-based navigation, and the absence of screen reader integration and alternative formats such as audio or transcripts. Viewed through inclusive communication and the social model of disability, these barriers act as structural “noise” in mediated interaction. The study argues that LMS accessibility must be treated as a central component of inclusive digital communication, requiring user-informed design, assistive communication technologies, and participatory testing with low vision students as co-designers.

Abstract

This research examines the role of local media in Bandarlampung in analyzing food security information through framing analysis. As one of Indonesia's food granaries, Lampung Province faces complex food security challenges requiring effective communication strategies. Using Robert N. Entman's framing model, this qualitative study analyzed 487 articles from three local media outlets (Lampung Post, Radar Lampung, and Tribun Lampung) published during January-December 2024. The research employed document analysis, in-depth interviews with nine journalists and editors, and focus group discussions with twelve participants. Findings reveal two dominant themes: agricultural production and commodity price fluctuations. Each media outlet demonstrates distinct editorial approaches, with Lampung Post emphasizing local food sovereignty, Radar Lampung focusing on innovation and modernization, and Tribun Lampung prioritizing farmer welfare impacts. The study identifies structural, professional, and contextual factors influencing framing patterns. Analysis of the controversial regional regulation on grain trade restrictions illustrates how divergent media framing creates fragmented public discourse and influences policy processes. Media framing significantly impacts public understanding and policy formulation regarding food security. This research contributes to framing theory application in local media contexts and provides practical implications for improving food security communication strategies in Indonesia.

Abstract

The acceleration of digital transformation has reshaped how institutions communicate with the public. To remain relevant, both governmental and private organizations must adapt to these shifts—so too must the Indonesian National Police (POLRI). Through the strategic use of social media, particularly Platform X (Twitter), POLRI seeks to cultivate closeness with a public that is increasingly critical, responsive, and participatory. This study investigates how POLRI has transformed its communication strategy to construct a coherent public narrative on Platform X. It focuses on three dimensions: the evolution of work models, new collaboration patterns between the Public Relations Division of POLRI and external digital partners, and the strategic management of hashtags as part of an integrated digital-communication approach. Employing a descriptive-qualitative method, data were collected through interviews with policy-level officials, field implementers, and external partners. The findings reveal a paradigm shift from one-way, hierarchical communication toward an open, two-way participatory dialogue that allows the public to offer feedback, criticism, and direct engagement. This shift is not merely technical but reflects an institutional reconfiguration of strategic communication practices within an algorithm-driven platform environment. By explicitly linking empirical findings with Strategic Communication Theory, this study contributes to the understanding of how public institutions negotiate legitimacy, authority, and visibility within platform-based communication ecosystems. The study concludes that the success of POLRI’s online communication rests not only on message quality but also on institutional synergy, adaptability to algorithmic change, and the capacity to maintain meaningful dialogue with citizens. Strategic communication, when integrated with digital innovation, enables the institution to strengthen trust and legitimacy in the era of participatory media. This study recommends that POLRI enhance its strategic digital communication capacity through algorithm literacy, data-driven engagement, sustained collaboration with external partners, and the development of ethical guidelines to strengthen public trust and institutional legitimacy in digital platforms.
