Abstract

This study investigates an instructional module's design, development, and effectiveness for learning Arabic collocations using Augmented Reality (AR) technology. A needs analysis was conducted to identify students’ challenges with Arabic collocations and their preferred learning strategies. Based on these insights, the module was designed using the ADDIE Model, integrating multimedia elements such as text, images, audio, animations, video, and 2D/3D models to improve engagement and comprehension. The AR-based module, AR Collocation, was implemented among 30 advanced learners at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Data were collected through interviews, questionnaires, and student feedback, focusing on usability and learning outcomes. The results showed that the AR module significantly enhanced students’ understanding of Arabic collocations, with a mean score of 4.3 (p 0.05). Students also rated the readability of fonts and the multimedia components highly (mean values: 4.73 and 4.87), expressing overall satisfaction with the interactive features. This study concludes that AR-based instructional modules can improve Arabic language learning and recommends further exploring AR's potential in teaching Arabic as a second language.

Abstract

The simplicity of many Islamic laws is not a fabrication of jurists, but rather a deduction from the meaning of Islamic texts. These jurists cannot achieve such an understanding without grasping the nuances of the Arabic language and its rhetoric, which are essential to comprehending Arabic texts in general and Islamic texts in particular. This study highlights the differences between schools of thought and individuals in their understanding of Arabic texts. The diversity and probability of interpreting Qur'anic and Sunnah texts on principles established by scholars of Usul al-Fiqh (the principles of Islamic jurisprudence). Precise scholarly standards govern these differences. This study also aims to demonstrate that diversity and probability in interpreting Arabic texts have practical applications in da'wah (Islamic outreach). The researchers employed a variety of overlapping methodologies throughout the research process, including an inductive method; the analysis was carefully selected from reliable sources within established Sunni schools of thought. This selection process was not comprehensive but rather selective, focusing on elements clearly aligned with the research objectives. Understanding jurisprudential issues and uncovering their depth requires linguistic and rhetorical analysis of Arabic texts, using appropriate tools. This process necessitates consulting the works of scholars, including linguists, jurists, commentators, and hadith scholars. Without this, researchers cannot fully grasp the intended meaning of the texts. Furthermore, this research confirms that the study of Islamic sciences cannot be separated from the study of linguistics.

Abstract

This study investigates Arabic verbal communication among Malaysian taxi drivers at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), focusing on communicative contexts, grammatical structures, and learning needs within the Tourism Taxi Ambassadors program. Anchored in Hutchinson and Waters’ (1987) framework of necessities, lacks, and wants, the study aims to (i) identify real-life situations where communication in Arabic occurs between drivers and Arab tourists, (ii) determine the core vocabulary and grammatical structures required for effective interaction, and (iii) explore the drivers’ preferred methods for language acquisition. A qualitative approach was adopted, involving focused group interviews with six experienced Malaysian taxi drivers from AIRPORT LIMO (M) SDN BHD. Data were coded and analyzed using ATLAS.ti 7.1.4. Findings revealed 24 recurring communicative situations that span three primary functions: social (e.g., greetings), professional (e.g., providing directions or services), and promotional (e.g., introducing tourist attractions). While drivers possess limited Arabic proficiency, their communication needs demand specific lexical and grammatical competence, particularly in functional sentence patterns commonly used in tourism discourse. The study further identified six preferred learning strategies, including mobile-assisted tools and situational learning materials, reflecting professional requirements and individual learning preferences. This research offers practical insights for designing Arabic training modules tailored to taxi drivers' linguistic realities and learning styles. It contributes to the broader field of Arabic for Specific Purposes (ASP) and workplace-based language instruction.

Abstract

The importance of the subject lies in shedding light on the Qur’anic influence on the poetry of Al-Akhtal, the Christian poet. There are differences between finding a Qur’anic influence on a Christian poet, but the Holy Qur’an captured people’s minds with its eloquence and style. The research aims to demonstrate the impact of the Holy Qur’an on Al-Akhtal’s poetry and to represent examples of his poetry in that influence. The study relied on the descriptive analytical method by searching for the Qur’anic verses that influenced Al-Akhtal and employed in a way that completely suited his poetic purposes, the researcher reached a set of results, which are: Al-Akhtal's adherence to his theory was not so much a commitment to his religion and faith as it was a result of his tribal religious heritage, the Holy Qur'an, with its rhetorical miracles and the secret of its artistic beauty, was the best tributary to enrich poets' creativity, deepen their experiences, and imbue them with creative beauty.

Abstract

Advances in technology and globalization have made it possible for multicultural societies to communicate more effectively. Understanding the characteristics of speech acts across different cultures is increasingly essential for enabling communities that speak various languages to achieve their communication goals. This study aims to identify the use of refusal speech acts among Malaysian and Moroccan students. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, involving 34 students from Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia, and the Dar El-Hadith El-Hassania Institute for Higher Islamic Studies, Morocco. The researcher used a Discourse Completion Test (DCT) containing 10 refusal scenarios adapted from Al-Issa's (1998) study. The data were analyzed deductively using the refusal strategies outlined by Beebe et al. (1990). The results indicate that Malaysian and Moroccan students predominantly use an indirect approach. The study also found that social status factors influence refusal strategies in certain situations.

Abstract

This study aims to shed light on the efforts made to digitalize the materials of the applied art of translation course by converting its materials into video clips and a printed textbook. The importance of this study is also because it reveals methods of teaching translation, as it combines science, art, practice, and application, in addition to the process of digitizing the material. This study followed the descriptive approach that focuses on describing the studied material, dealing with the general description, characteristics, teaching methods, and everything related to it in a complete scientific study. The researchers reached essential results, the most important of which is that the digitization of the materials is possible, and two things did it: digitizing the materials through video clips and issuing the printed textbook. As for the first, it consists of video clips according to the subjects prescribed in the study plan, and in total, there were 14 videos, which helped the learners to understand the materials well, in addition to their possibilities to refer to them when, how, and where they want. The second digitization was done by preparing a printed textbook distinguished by its theoretical and practical aspects, with a lexical witness for all the words used in the models presented, with reference to the extensive dictionary of the Indonesian language.

Abstract

The increasing demand for inclusive education requires the availability of teaching materials that accommodate the diverse learning needs of all students, including those with special needs. As a subject with complex grammatical structures, Arabic presents a unique challenge in inclusive classroom settings, particularly in Islamic schools. This study examines the development of adaptive Arabic language teaching materials to support inclusive learning at MTs Miftahul Afkar Kediri. Using a qualitative approach with an evaluative-descriptive design, this research applies the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model, supported by the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The results show that Arabic teachers have independently developed adaptive teaching materials by simplifying content, using visual and audio supports, and adjusting learning activities to match the students’ varied needs. These efforts reflect UDL principles such as multiple means of representation and engagement, even though no training for teachers in UDL. Adaptive materials have positively impacted student motivation and participation, especially among students with learning barriers. Regular students also benefited from the more interactive and multimodal approach. However, several challenges remain, including institutional policy support, limited teacher training, and the lack of standardized material evaluation procedures. This study contributes to developing inclusive education practices in madrasahs by emphasizing the importance of adaptive teaching materials and the teacher’s role as a curriculum designer. The novelty of this study lies in its integration of the UDL approach within the context of Arabic instruction and the focus on student engagement as an indicator of effectiveness. Findings from this study offer a practical reference for other inclusive madrasahs seeking to develop equitable and accessible Arabic learning experiences for all students.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the complementary role of contrastive analysis (CA) and error analysis (EA) in facilitating second language acquisition (SLA) and enhancing learners’ linguistic competence. The research employed a descriptive-analytical approach to examine key theoretical concepts and models, particularly hierarchical models of language learning difficulties such as Prator’s and Stockwell’s frameworks, alongside a review of applied studies in language education. The findings indicate that contrastive analysis provides a crucial predictive framework that helps identify potential areas of difficulty based on structural differences between the learners’ first language (L1) and the target language (L2), thus enabling the design of more responsive instructional content. Meanwhile, error analysis is a diagnostic tool that reveals learners’ linguistic performance and sheds light on the transitional rules they construct during acquisition. The study also showed that hierarchical models enhance the precision of contrastive analysis by categorising linguistic differences according to varying levels of complexity and difficulty, which supports preempting errors and guiding instruction more effectively. The study concludes by underscoring the importance of integrating contrastive and error analyses in curriculum development and teaching strategies, training teachers to analyse and classify errors and devise remedial plans that respect learners’ linguistic and cultural backgrounds, thereby transforming errors from obstacles into learning opportunities. It recommends developing instructional units based on well-studied maps of linguistic difficulties, which improve SLA quality and foster learners’ awareness, confidence, and linguistic competence.

Abstract

This study investigates the aesthetic value of metaphorical imagery in the poem Umm Jundub from the Diwan of Imru’ al-Qais. It adopts a literary-rhetorical approach that combines both descriptive and analytical methods. The research identifies and interprets key metaphorical expressions to reveal their rhetorical significance in pre-Islamic Arabic poetry. The study is framed within a broader awareness of rhetorical expression (al-bayan), aiming to extract, describe, and analyze the artistic imagery that characterizes the selected verses. Emphasis is placed on uncovering deeper meanings and rhetorical functions embedded in the poet’s metaphors. This analysis draws upon three primary editions of the Diwan, compiled by al-Zuzani, Yasin al-Ayyubi, and Abu al-Fadl Ibrahim. The findings of this research are expected to contribute to the field of Arabic rhetoric and classical literature by offering theoretical insights and practical applications for interpreting figurative language in early Arabic poetry.
