Abstract

Arabic language learning often focuses on mastering linguistic aspects without considering the socio-cultural context of learners. This research is motivated by the challenge of integrating Mandar's local cultural values into the content of Arabic reading skills learning. Local culture, such as sirondoi (cooperation), sipakatau (mutual respect), and oral traditions like pappasang, kalindaqdaq, and pau-pau, are Mandar cultural values that can enrich the Arabic language learning process, both linguistically and culturally. The purpose of this research is to 1) describe Mandar local cultural values; 2) explain the opinions of Arabic language experts on the integration of Mandar local cultural values into Arabic reading skills learning; 3) propose the design of thematic content for Arabic reading instruction based on Mandar local cultural values, aiming to help students understand Arabic in a broader cultural context. The method used in this research is educational ethnography with a qualitative approach. Data were collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews with students, lecturers/teachers, and community leaders, and analysis of documents related to Arabic language learning content and the Mandar local culture. The research was conducted on students of the Arabic Language Education Study Program at Datokarama Palu University, lecturers/teachers involved in Arabic language learning, and Mandar community leaders. The results of the research show that (1) Mandar local cultural values such as sirondoi, sipakatau, pappasang, kalindaqdaq, and pau-pau can be integrated into the content of Arabic reading skills learning; (2) Arabic language experts/observers believe that these values can be applied in the classroom to encourage students to work together in learning groups, respect each other in communication, both orally and in writing; (3) The design based on these local cultural values can be embedded into Arabic reading instruction content into Arabic reading skills learning. The theoretical conclusion is that integrating Mandar's local cultural values into the content of Arabic reading skills instruction can be offered as a design in Arabic language learning that aims for students to understand language in a broader cultural context, more relevant and meaningful.

Abstract

The Prophetic Hadiths encompass a variety of expressions classified as supplications, yet they are not intended as prayers in their meaning and significance. These expressions belong to the linguistic traditions of the Arabs, forming part of their rhetorical and verbal styles that distinguished them from other nations. This research focuses on studying these eloquent Arabic styles as the Prophet articulated them, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, by examining their nature and connotations. It aims to clarify their true meaning and intent, explore the reasons for their usage, and analyse the variations in their meanings based on the contexts in which they appear. A precise linguistic analysis of these expressions will adhere to linguistic principles and rules. Furthermore, the study will examine scholars’ interpretations of these expressions, linking and comparing them with their Shariah significance. This includes determining the meanings these expressions conveyed within the framework of Islamic law and exploring the relationship between their linguistic and Shariah connotations. The key objectives of this research include clarifying certain linguistic styles that appear to contradict their literal meanings to highlight their deep-rooted Arabic origins. Establishing a connection between these linguistic origins and their Shariah implications demonstrates how they acquired legal and contextual meanings during the Islamic era. The study adopts a descriptive and analytical approach by linking the linguistic origins of unintended supplications with their Shariah meanings and analysing their interconnections. The research is expected to yield significant findings, primarily proving the importance of linking linguistic meanings with the technical contextual meanings in Shariah to accurately determine the true implications of Prophetic texts.

Abstract

This study aims to obtain the consensus of experts on the needs of the main element and sequence position (ranking) priority for each item in the design development of the model gamification vocabulary in Arabic. This study employed the fuzzy Delphi approach using a seven-point Likert scale. This work aimed to create a model gamification vocabulary for Arabic based on expert consensus. Consequently, the researchers gathered the opinions of nine experts from various sectors, particularly Arabic language, technology education, and Arabic language industry participants. This 21-item survey questionnaire has three primary components: (i) informational elements, (ii) interface elements, and (iii) the element of interactivity. Triangular fuzzy numbering was used to analyze the data. A defuzzification process establishes each item's position (ranking). The results demonstrate that experts agree on every point in the primary element. The results demonstrate that experts agree on every point in the primary element. The results indicate that every item received met or exceeded the three fuzzy criteria: the threshold value (d) does not exceed or equal 0.2, the percentage of deal experts exceeds or equals 75%, and the defuzzification (alpha cut) value exceeds or equals 0.5. The Arabic Gamification Vocabulary Model should provide the educational sector with fresh ideas that align with the nation's digital education policy.

Abstract

The ecological approach enables a more holistic understanding of connectedness as an emergent phenomenon arising from interacting various elements in the language learning ecosystem. This article explores the dimensions of connectedness in Arabic language learning through the perspective of learning ecology. Using data from a case study at Pondok Pesantren Darussalam Gontor Ponorogo, Indonesia, this research analyzes how complex interactions between learners, teachers, environment, and language form a dynamic learning ecosystem. Through a mixed methods methodology, the study identifies four main dimensions of connectedness: interpersonal connectedness, contextual connectedness, conceptual connectedness, and spiritual-cultural connectedness. The results show that learning ecosystems rich in connectedness correlate positively with improved Arabic language competence (r = 0.74, p 0.01) and developing a more integrated linguistic identity. This article proposes an "Ecology of Connectedness" model that emphasizes connectedness's dynamic, contextual, and emergent nature in Arabic language learning. This model offers a new theoretical framework to help Arabic language educators design learning environments that facilitate various forms of connectedness and support sustainable language development. The implications of this research extend the understanding of Arabic language learning beyond traditional cognitive-individual approaches toward a perspective that recognizes the central role of connectedness in language learning ecology.

Abstract

Exposure is crucial for language acquisition, yet Arabic language learners in Malaysia face limited exposure. To accurately measure the extent of this exposure among higher education students, the researcher has developed the Arabic Language Exposure instrument (I-ALEx). This study applied the Rasch Model to validate the I-ALEx, which was designed to assess students' exposure to the Arabic language. Data were collected from 374 final-year Arabic language students from eight universities in Malaysia using a cross-sectional survey design. The I-ALEx includes 20 items divided into two sub-constructs: target language and culture, on a four-point Likert scale (strongly disagree to agree strongly). The quality of the items was evaluated using Winsteps version 5.2. The analysis indicated that all items on the I-ALEx satisfied the Rasch model requirements, thereby supporting the reliability and validity of the instrument. This validation supports the I-ALEx as an effective tool for evaluating Arabic language exposure among higher education students, thus enhancing the assessment practices in language education.

Abstract

The use of teaching aids in Arabic language instruction has shown positive effects on students’ vocabulary acquisition. However, many teachers still do not fully utilize technology and teaching materials in the teaching and learning process. Therefore, this study developed the My Arabiy Game-X model as a guide for creating interactive and user-friendly mobile applications to support Arabic language teaching in religious primary schools. The study focused on three of the seven primary constructs related to pedagogical design: teacher needs, learning objectives, and assessment of learning outcomes. The Fuzzy Delphi Method (FDM) was used in a structured way to ensure the accuracy and validity of the data. A total of 22 experts were selected through purposive sampling, including those with expertise in curriculum, teaching, educational technology, multimedia, information technology, and assessment. The research instrument was a questionnaire developed from a literature review and expert interviews. Data were analyzed using a Microsoft Excel template. Findings showed that all elements within the three constructs reached consensus among the experts. The pedagogical design of the model has strong potential as a helpful guide for developing more holistic, relevant, and effective Arabic language learning apps, in line with 21st-century educational digitalization initiatives.

Abstract

The Quran’s role as a foundational sacred text in preserving and shaping the Arabic language makes it an essential resource for linguists, learners, and educators to enhance their understanding of Quranic Arabic. A key sūrah that captures the fundamental vocabulary and concepts of the Qur’ān is Sūrah Al-Baqarah. Through a literature review, researchers found no previous study on the collection of these words and the number of derivatives in their various contexts. Therefore, this study aims to highlight the fundamental vocabulary of the Qurʼān in this Sūrah, as it includes these words that are repeated at least 50 times throughout the Qurʼān. Through the qualitative approach and analyzing documents in primary dictionaries of al-Quran words, researchers gathered data by analyzing the frequency of the words semantically and comparatively. They counted their frequency with their different derivations using "al-Muʻjam al-Mufahras li-Alfāẓ al-Qurʼān al-Karīm". "Muʻjam al-Adawāt wa-al-Ḍamāʼir" was also used as an additional resource. The meanings of the words were later clarified using "Muʻjam alfāẓ al-Qurʼān al-Karīm". This study concluded that the fundamental words in Sūrah Al-Baqarah include verbs, nouns, and prepositions, with the number of occurrences of their most commonly used derivations amounting to 227 terms. The fundamental vocabulary in this collection represents a rich linguistic treasure and a substantial scientific resource. The findings contribute not only to understanding word roots, derivational morphology, and syntactic patterns. Thus, this research underscores al-Quran’s role as a foundational sacred text in preserving and shaping the Arabic language, making it an essential resource for linguists, learners, and educators to enhance their understanding of Quranic Arabic.
