Abstract

This study addresses the issue of low student engagement in elementary school classrooms in Indonesia, which hampers effective learning. The research aims to describe the level of growth mindset among elementary students, their engagement in learning, and to analyze the relationship between growth mindset and student engagement during the learning process. Employing a quantitative correlational approach, the study was conducted at SD Negeri 1 Ngabul with 29 fourth-grade students participating as the saturated sample. Data were collected using questionnaires based on Dweck’s growth mindset theory and Fredricks et al.’s engagement dimensions, covering behavioral, emotional, and cognitive aspects. The data were analyzed using Spearman’s rank correlation to determine the strength and significance of the relationship between growth mindset and student engagement. The results indicate a strong and significant positive correlation (r = 0.768, p < 0.001), with growth mindset accounting for 58.98% of the variance in student engagement. These findings suggest that students’ beliefs in their ability to develop intelligence through effort and perseverance substantially influence their active participation and emotional and cognitive involvement in learning. The study highlights the importance of fostering a growth mindset in elementary education to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study analyzes elementary students' critical thinking skills on force material based on Ennis's indicators, identifying the highest and lowest indicators and influencing factors. A mixed method with sequential explanatory design was employed. Subjects were 20 fourth-grade students at SDN Tegal Besar 02. The instrument was a 10-item essay test based on five Ennis indicators: elementary clarification, basic support, inference, advanced clarification, and strategy and tactics. Quantitative data were analyzed using percentages, while qualitative data from teacher interviews enriched the findings. Results showed students' average critical thinking ability was in the medium category (46.8%). The elementary clarification indicator achieved the highest percentage (56%, medium category), with students able to analyze arguments and provide simple explanations. Conversely, the strategy and tactics indicator obtained the lowest percentage (37%, low category) as students struggled to determine strategies and plan actions logically due to lack of problem-solving practice. The relationship between indicators is gradual, where basic clarification serves as a foundation but does not automatically improve strategic skills without learning that encourages independent problem-solving.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Target Point training method on the accuracy of smashes in PB UNJA SMART athletes. Accurate smashes play an important role in the effectiveness of attacks, but initial observations indicate that the accuracy of athletes' smashes has not yet achieved the expected results. Therefore, a more focused training method is needed on shuttlecock control and target focus, one of which is through the application of the Target Point method. This study used an experimental method with a One-Group Pretest–Posttest design. The sample consisted of 10 athletes determined through a total sampling technique. The research instrument was a smash accuracy test with 30 trials with the target point as the target. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the inferential Paired Sample t-Test using SPSS version 26.0. The normality test showed that the data were normally distributed, so parametric analysis could be performed. The results showed an increase in smash accuracy after being given Target Point training. The average pretest score of 13.90 increased to 22.20 in the posttest. The results of the Paired Sample t-Test showed a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05), thus concluding that the Target Point method significantly improved the accuracy of athletes' smashes. Therefore, this method can be used as an alternative training program to improve smash accuracy.

Abstract

Floor gymnastics is one of the basic movement activities in physical education that requires physical ability, coordination, and good technical mastery. One of the fundamental movements in floor gymnastics is the candle position. This study aims to analyze neuromuscular balance and foot anatomy in the candle position in floor gymnastics. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design, which aims to analyze the relationship between neuromuscular balance and foot anatomy in relation to the quality of the candle position in floor gymnastics. The research subjects consisted of students who had basic experience in floor gymnastics. Subject selection was carried out using purposive sampling techniques, with inclusion criteria including: 1. healthy physical condition 2. no lower extremity injuries 3. able to perform the candle position independently. Neuromuscular balance was measured using static balance tests, such as the stork stand test or balance error scoring system (BESS), which have been proven to be valid and reliable in evaluating postural control and neuromuscular stability. The results of this study show a mutually supportive relationship between neuromuscular balance and foot anatomy, where good foot condition improves the effectiveness of proprioceptive sensors and force distribution, thereby facilitating body posture control in inverted positions. Thus, it is confirmed that the synergy between neuromuscular control and foot anatomy is a major factor in the success of the candle pose, making attention to both aspects very important in learning and practicing floor exercises.

Abstract

This study addresses the challenge of optimizing teacher performance to improve student learning outcomes in elementary schools. Despite the critical role of teachers in shaping student achievement, many schools face issues related to limited pedagogical competence, insufficient use of varied teaching methods, and low motivation among teachers. The study aimed to identify the factors affecting teacher performance and develop strategies for effective teacher management. A qualitative descriptive approach with a case study design was employed, involving semi-structured interviews with teachers and school principals, classroom observations, and document analysis of lesson plans, supervision reports, and student assessment results. Findings indicate that teacher pedagogical competence, implementation of interactive and contextual teaching methods, motivation, effective classroom management, and support from academic supervision and school leadership are key factors influencing teacher performance. Teachers who apply interactive strategies and utilize digital media enhance student engagement and learning outcomes, while those relying on conventional lecture methods create passive classrooms, resulting in lower motivation and achievement. The study highlights that optimizing teacher performance requires an integrated approach combining professional development, supervision, motivation, and classroom management. These findings provide practical implications for school leaders and policymakers in designing programs to improve teaching quality and student competence in elementary education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of work culture, teachers’ professional competence, and transformational leadership of the principal on teachers’ job satisfaction at SMAN 8 Tanjung Jabung Timur. The research employed a quantitative approach using an ex post facto method, as there was no treatment applied to the independent variables and the study was conducted based on conditions that had already occurred in the field. The sample consisted of 30 teachers selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using multiple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS version 31. The results showed that partially, work culture did not have a significant effect on teachers’ job satisfaction (sig. 0.137 > 0.05), and teachers’ professional competence also did not have a significant effect (sig. 0.609 > 0.05). In contrast, the principal’s transformational leadership had a positive and significant effect on teachers’ job satisfaction (sig. 0.017 < 0.05). Simultaneously, work culture, teachers’ professional competence, and transformational leadership of the principal had a significant effect on teachers’ job satisfaction (sig. 0.028 < 0.05). These findings indicate that teachers’ job satisfaction is more strongly influenced by the principal’s leadership factor compared to work culture and professional competence individually. Therefore, the implementation of inspirational, supportive, and visionary transformational leadership is an important strategy to enhance teachers’ job satisfaction and support the improvement of educational quality in schools.
