Abstract

The literacy and numeracy skills of early childhood education (PAUD) teachers are still not optimal in supporting effective and meaningful learning processes. This condition is influenced by limited understanding and lack of training in integrating literacy and numeracy into daily teaching practices. This community service program aims to enhance the literacy and numeracy competencies of PAUD educators in classroom practices. The methods employed include training, mentoring, and evaluation using a participatory approach through stages of needs analysis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The program involved PAUD educators as the primary participants. The results indicate an improvement in participants’ understanding and skills in designing and implementing literacy and numeracy learning. In addition, participants demonstrated high enthusiasm and were able to apply the outcomes of the training in their teaching activities. Therefore, this program has a positive impact on improving the quality of learning in early childhood education.

Abstract

This study aims to explore pre-service teachers’ perceptions of the use of Spatial.io as a metaverse-based virtual learning experience in higher education. The study is grounded in the growing demand for learning experiences that are more immersive, interactive, and contextual, particularly in response to the limitations of conventional online learning in fostering engagement and social presence. A descriptive quantitative approach with a survey design was employed. Data were collected through an online questionnaire using a five-point Likert scale developed based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) framework, encompassing five dimensions: performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, and behavioral intention. The respondents consisted of 300 active students enrolled in teacher education programs in Indonesia, selected through convenience sampling. The findings indicate that all UTAUT dimensions fell within the high category, with the highest mean found in facilitating conditions (4.04), followed by social influence (4.02), performance expectancy (4.00), behavioral intention (3.98), and effort expectancy (3.90). These findings suggest that pre-service teachers demonstrate a positive acceptance of Spatial.io, particularly due to the availability of supporting facilities and the influence of the academic environment. However, the ease-of-use dimension still requires further attention. This study highlights the potential of Spatial.io to be developed as an innovative pedagogical space in teacher education, provided that its integration is supported by technical training, well-structured instructional design, and sustained institutional support.

Interest in reading is one of the important factors in supporting the success of learning Indonesian, but there are still students who show varying interest in reading. This study aims to find out the level of interest in reading students' fiction stories in learning Indonesian. The method used was quantitative descriptive with a subject of 20 students at SDN 2 Dungusiku. The data collection technique used a closed questionnaire based on reading interest indicators, while data analysis was carried out by descriptive statistical techniques. The research instrument has been tested for validity and realism. The results of the realism test using Cronbach's Alpha with the help of SPSS 2021 obtained a value of 0.925 which shows that the instrument is in the category of reliability and suitable for use in the research. Based on data analysis, the range of reading interest scores is classified into four categories, namely high, high, medium, and low. The results of this study show that students' interest in reading fiction stories in learning Indonesian is dominated by the timggi category by 75%, while 25% is in the medium category. These findings indicate that students have good interest, attention, and involvement in reading fiction stories. Thus, students' interest in reading fiction fiction in learning Indonesian is relatively high and contributes positively to supporting Indonesian language learning.

Abstract

This study seeks to create variations of the tsuki punch training model in karate for practitioners aged 10–13 years at the Ryuken Karate Club in Pesawaran Regency and to assess the enhancement of punching proficiency via frequency testing. The employed methodology is Research and Development (R&D) utilizing the Borg and Gall development model, which has ten stages. The research participants consisted of 30 karate practitioners. Expert validation results indicated that the created training model was viable, with evaluations of 91.42% from karate experts, 90% from linguists, and 85.7% from media experts, yielding an average score of 89.04%. The effectiveness test findings from punching frequency assessments indicated an enhancement in karateka punching proficiency. In the preliminary assessment, 4 individuals (13.33%) were classified as good, 19 individuals (63.33%) as sufficient, and 7 individuals (23.33%) as poor. Post-treatment, the good category rose to 10 individuals (33.33%), the sufficient group to 20 individuals (66.67%), and the poor category was eliminated. The implemented tsuki punch training model significantly enhanced the punch frequency of karate practitioners aged 10 to 13. The research culminates in a comprehensive guidebook detailing variations of training models, accompanied by illustrations and explanations to aid trainers in the training process.

Abstract

Forest and land fires have long been a source of public concern, particularly due to the frequent occurrence of peatland fires in Riau Province. Various institutions have undertaken efforts to address this disaster, including PT KPI RU II Sungai Pakning, which implements a community empowerment program focused on community-based forest and land fire mitigation through the Masyarakat Peduli Bencana (MPB) initiative. This study employs a qualitative research approach and focuses on the environmental communication process carried out by the Community Development Officer (CDO) team in implementing the community-based fire mitigation program. The findings reveal that the CDO team applies stages of environmental communication planning, production, implementation, and evaluation in executing the empowerment program. Through these stages, the program contributes to behavioral changes within the community toward greater environmental awareness and sustainable peatland management and improve environmental education.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of implementing the Inside Outside Circle (IOC) learning model assisted by serial picture cards on students’ reading skills. The low level of students’ reading skills is caused by the lack of variation in learning models and the limited use of interesting instructional media. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design. The research subjects were elementary school students who were divided into an experimental class and a control class. The experimental class was taught using the Inside Outside Circle learning model assisted by serial picture cards, while the control class used conventional learning methods. Data were collected through reading skill tests, observation, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis testing with a t-test. The results showed that there was a significant difference in reading skills between students who were taught using the Inside Outside Circle learning model assisted by serial picture cards and those who were taught using conventional methods. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Inside Outside Circle learning model assisted by serial picture cards has a positive effect on improving students’ reading skills. This learning model can be used as an effective alternative to enhance reading skills in elementary schools.

Abstract

This article discusses the transformation of Islamic religious education in the history of Malay Islamic civilization from classical scholarly traditions to the modernization of education. Initially, Islamic education in the Malay world developed through traditional educational institutions such as pesantren, surau, and dayah, which focused on the study of classical Islamic texts and the development of moral and spiritual values. With the emergence of modernization, the Islamic education system experienced significant changes in terms of curriculum, learning methods, and institutional management. This study employs a qualitative approach using library research by analyzing various relevant sources such as books and scholarly articles. The findings reveal that the transformation of Islamic education in the Malay world has occurred through the integration of classical scholarly traditions with modern educational systems. This integration is reflected in the combination of religious and general subjects within the curriculum, the development of more adaptive learning methods, and the utilization of technology in educational practices. Therefore, Islamic education in the Malay region has been able to maintain traditional values while adapting to contemporary developments.

Abstract

Reading comprehension is a basic competency that elementary school students must possess. However, in practice, many students still experience difficulties in understanding reading content. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the RADEC (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, Create) learning model in improving elementary school students' reading comprehension. The method used was a literature review. Journal searches were conducted on Google Scholar and relevant articles. The analysis results indicate that the RADEC model can improve reading comprehension because it encourages students to actively read, think critically, discuss, and construct understanding independently. Thus, the RADEC model can be an effective learning alternative in improving elementary school students' literacy skills.
