Abstract

The writing skills of third-grade students of SD Negeri 3 Jungutbatu are still low, especially in the use of capital letters and punctuation, sentence structure according to the SPOK structure, and the development of ideas into simple paragraphs. This study aims to improve students' writing skills through the use of pocket books. This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was carried out in two cycles with the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 14 students. Data were collected through writing skills tests and observations, then analyzed descriptively quantitatively and qualitatively. The results showed that the average student writing skills increased from 59.64 in the initial reflection to 61.96 in Cycle I and 80.18 in Cycle II. The percentage of classical learning completion also increased from 14.28% to 35.71%, then reached 92.86% in Cycle II. Improvements occurred in all indicators of writing skills, including the use of capital letters and punctuation, sentence structure (SPOK), neatness of writing, appropriateness of the theme, and the use of one's own language. Thus, pocket book media effectively improves the writing skills of grade III students at SD Negeri 3 Jungutbatu.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the improvement of reading comprehension skills among fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 5 Nisam through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Big Book media. The background of this study is based on students' low reading comprehension ability, as they still had trouble analyzing, constructing information, and summarizing the content of a text, resulting in Indonesian language learning outcomes that had not yet reached the established Learning Objective Mastery Criteria (KKTP). This study employed a qualitative approach in the form of Classroom Action Research (CAR), carried out in two cycles consisting of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 19 fourth-grade students of SD Negeri 5 Nisam. Data were collected through learning outcome tests, observation sheets of teacher and student activities, and interviews, then analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative methods. The results showed that the percentage of students' learning completeness increased from 63.15% in Cycle I to 89.47% in Cycle II, thereby achieving the 80% classical completeness target. Teacher activity increased from 95% to 96%, while student activity increased from 97% to 98%, both falling into the very good category. Interview results also indicated that students gave positive responses to the use of Big Book media and the PBL model, finding the learning process more engaging, easier to understand, and enjoyable. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Problem Based Learning model assisted by Big Book media is effective in improving reading comprehension skills and increasing student engagement in elementary Indonesian language learning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of work culture, self-efficacy, and servant leadership on service quality at Private Vocational High Schools (SMK) Cluster 2 in South Tangerang City. The study employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The research population consisted of 167 teachers, with a sample of 118 respondents determined using the Slovin formula. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire that had met the validity and reliability requirements. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, classical assumption tests, and multiple linear regression analysis with the assistance of SPSS software. The results indicate that work culture, self-efficacy, and servant leadership each have a positive and significant effect on service quality. The contribution of work culture to service quality is reflected by a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.177, self-efficacy by 0.231, and servant leadership by 0.119. Simultaneously, work culture and self-efficacy contribute 27.2% to service quality, work culture and servant leadership contribute 20.8%, while self-efficacy and servant leadership contribute 23.8%. Furthermore, the simultaneous analysis of all three independent variables demonstrates a positive and significant effect on service quality, with an F-value of 14.328, which is greater than the F-table value, and a significance level of 0.000 (< 0.05). The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.274 indicates that 27.4% of the variance in service quality can be explained by work culture, self-efficacy, and servant leadership, while the remaining 72.6% is influenced by other factors outside the research model. These findings suggest that strengthening work culture, enhancing teachers' self-efficacy, and implementing servant leadership by school principals are important factors in improving the quality of educational services.

Abstract

This study aims to gain an in-depth understanding of the implementation of the emotion co-regulation (time-in) strategy in handling tantrum phases in Group A children at TK Al Hidayah V Sanenrejo Tempurejo Jember. This study employed a qualitative descriptive method. Data were collected through observations, interviews with the principal, Group A teachers, and parents, as well as documentation. The results showed that the implementation of the emotion co-regulation strategy played a positive role in helping children manage their emotions during tantrums. The emotional assistance provided by teachers through a calming presence helped children feel safe and become calmer more easily. The obstacles experienced by teachers were limited time and attention, as teachers had to handle children experiencing tantrums while simultaneously supervising other children. This study concludes that the emotion co-regulation (time-in) strategy is effective in helping manage tantrums while also supporting children’s social-emotional development.

Abstract

Character education in early childhood is an essential foundation for developing children’s behavior and social attitudes. One form of strengthening character education that can be implemented in the school environment is through the habituation of Greeting, Smiling, and Saluting (3S). This habituation aims to instill politeness, respect, and courteous social interaction skills from an early age. This study aims to describe the implementation of the Greeting–Smiling–Saluting (3S) habituation in strengthening the politeness character education of children aged 4–5 years at KB Aisyah Rahman. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. The research subjects consisted of the principal, teachers, and children aged 4–5 years. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was tested through source triangulation and technique triangulation. The results of the study indicate that the 3S habituation was implemented through daily routine activities, teacher role modeling, reinforcement of positive behavior, and integration into learning activities and children’s social interactions at school. The implementation of this habituation contributed positively to the development of children’s politeness character, such as the ability to greet politely, respect teachers and peers, communicate courteously, and demonstrate polite behavior in daily life. Supporting factors for the success of the 3S habituation included teacher commitment, a conducive school culture, and parental support, while inhibiting factors included differences in family backgrounds and the lack of consistency in habituation at home. Therefore, the Greeting–Smiling–Saluting (3S) habituation is considered effective as a strategy for strengthening politeness character education in early childhood.

Abstract

The teaching profession in Indonesia is currently facing the challenge of declining interest and attractiveness among the younger generation, leading some education students to view teaching as a career last resort. This study aims to examine the influence of career interest and welfare perception on the positioning of the teaching profession as a career last resort among students of the Office Administration Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Semarang. This study employed a quantitative approach, with career interest and welfare perception as the independent variables and the positioning of the teaching profession as a career last resort as the dependent variable. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed through multiple linear regression. The study population consisted of 121 students from the 2022 cohort, with a sample of 93 respondents selected using simple random sampling. The results indicate that, partially, career interest and welfare perception do not have a significant effect on the positioning of the teaching profession as a career last resort. However, simultaneously, both variables have a significant effect on the positioning of the teaching profession as a career last resort. These findings suggest that students' decisions to regard the teaching profession as a career last resort constitute a complex process influenced by the interaction of various internal and external factors. Therefore, comprehensive efforts are needed to enhance the attractiveness of the teaching profession.

Abstract

The low Indonesian language learning outcomes of lower-grade elementary school students require teachers to implement innovative learning media that support beginning reading skills. This study aimed to improve the implementation of learning, Indonesian language learning outcomes, student learning activities, and students' responses through the use of picture word card media for Grade II students at SDN Karya Tani. This study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, consisting of two cycles with four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 25 Grade II students. Data were collected through observation, learning achievement tests, questionnaires, and documentation, then analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative techniques. The results showed that the implementation of learning increased from 39.34% in the first meeting of Cycle I to 83.60% in the second meeting of Cycle II. Students' learning mastery improved from 56% to 84%, while student learning activities increased from 52% to 88%. Furthermore, students gave positive responses toward the use of picture word card media with a response percentage of 76.2%, categorized as strongly agree. These findings indicate that picture word card media effectively improves the quality of Indonesian language learning by enhancing learning implementation, student activities, learning outcomes, and positive student responses. Therefore, picture word card media can be recommended as an alternative instructional medium for Indonesian language learning in lower elementary schools.
