Abstract

Jambi City was awarded the Main Category of the Child-Friendly City (Kota Layak Anak) designation in 2025. However, findings from observations, interviews, and documentation revealed that child labor remains prevalent in several areas of the city, indicating a discrepancy between policy achievements and the actual conditions experienced by children. This study aims to analyze the social inequality factors contributing to the persistence of child labor and to examine prevention efforts based on Max Weber’s theory of social stratification. The research employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through triangulation. The findings indicate that child labor is influenced by family economic constraints, low parental educational attainment and social acceptance of child labor, as well as the suboptimal implementation of child protection policies. Prevention efforts include strengthening family economic resilience, increasing public awareness, and improving the implementation of child protection policies. The study concludes that the Child-Friendly City (Kota Layak Anak) designation has not yet fully reflected the substantive fulfillment of children's rights, highlighting the need for more effective and sustainable policy implementation.

Abstract

The use of learning media plays an important role in improving beginning reading skills among elementary school students. However, the implementation of digital visual literacy media in reading instruction at the lower elementary level remains limited. This study aimed to describe the implementation of Canva-based visual literacy media in reading instruction for first-grade students at SDN 1 Awang Besar and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting its implementation. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The research subjects consisted of a first-grade teacher and first-grade students at SDN 1 Awang Besar. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, including data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that the implementation of Canva-based visual literacy media was carried out through three stages, namely planning, implementation, and evaluation. The media facilitated students in recognizing letters, reading words, understanding reading texts, and actively participating in learning activities. The implementation was supported by teachers' competence in utilizing technology, adequate school facilities, students' characteristics, and institutional support. Meanwhile, limited preparation time, technical constraints, and differences in students' reading abilities became the main challenges. Therefore, Canva-based visual literacy media can serve as an effective learning medium to create meaningful, interactive, and student-centered beginning reading instruction in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Love-Based Curriculum grounded in ta’dib values within Islamic Religious Education at Darul Ulum Banyuanyar Vocational High School, Pamekasan. The study employed a qualitative approach with a single-case study design. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and document analysis involving the principal, curriculum administrators, teachers, and students. The data were analyzed thematically through coding, categorization, theme development, and interpretation. The findings indicate that the curriculum was implemented through the integration of love values into lesson planning, teacher role-modelling, respectful communication, religious habituation, discipline, and the school’s pesantren-based culture. Love served as the relational foundation, while ta’dib provided a normative direction through respect, responsibility, proper conduct, and the ethical use of knowledge. Its implementation was supported by leadership commitment, religious culture, and teacher exemplarity, but was constrained by uneven teacher understanding, limited training, the absence of operational guidelines, and unsystematic character assessment. The study highlights the need to institutionalize the curriculum through stronger policies, teaching instruments, supervision, continuous professional development, and evaluation tools grounded in love and ta’dib.
