Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of mathematics learning interest on the mathematics learning outcomes of fifth-grade elementary school students in Baubau City, involving four schools: SDN 2 Nganganaumala, SDN 1 Bonebone, SDN 3 Katobengke, and SDN 1 Kaobula. Preliminary observations revealed varying levels of student enthusiasm during mathematics lessons, which was suspected to impact their learning outcomes. The study employed a quantitative ex-post facto correlational method, utilizing a saturated sampling technique with 79 fifth-grade students as respondents. Data were collected via a learning interest questionnaire and mathematics midterm exam scores, then analyzed using Pearson Product Moment correlation, a significance test (t-test), and simple linear regression. The results showed an average learning interest score of 63.38 (low category) across the four schools, while the average learning outcome score was 72.52. Correlation analysis yielded an r-calculated value of 0.385 and a t-calculated value of 3.656—exceeding the t-table value of 1.991 at a 5% significance level—indicating a positive and significant relationship, albeit within the low category. The coefficient of determination was 14.79%, indicating that learning interest contributed 14.79% to learning outcomes, while the remaining 85.21% was influenced by other factors. These findings confirm that mathematics learning interest has a positive and significant effect on learning outcomes; however, teachers and schools must still consider other factors to optimize students' mathematics learning achievements.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the errors made by Grade X students at SMK PGRI 23 Jakarta in understanding the basic concepts of exponential forms and to identify the factors contributing to these errors. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed. Data were collected through written tests and analyzed based on the types of errors appearing in the students' work. The results indicate that the most frequent errors involved understanding the meaning of exponentiation, applying properties of exponential operations, using rules for zero and negative exponents, and making calculation errors. Contributing factors included a lack of understanding of basic concepts, a tendency to memorize formulas without grasping their application, and a lack of precision when solving problems. The findings are expected to serve as a basis for evaluating and designing mathematics instruction that places greater emphasis on conceptual understanding.

Abstract

Teaching Assistance (AM) is a form of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program that provides pre-service teacher students with direct teaching experience in Vocational High Schools (SMK). This study aims to: (1) identify the competencies required by students in the AM program; (2) analyze the level of alignment between Building Engineering Education (PTB) course materials and those competencies; and (3) test the significance of that alignment using the Chi-Square test. The study used a quantitative, ex post facto non-experimental descriptive approach supported by qualitative data from student essays. Data were collected through a 1–4 Likert-scale questionnaire distributed to 76 PTB students from the 2022 cohort who had completed the AM program. The results show that of 30 materials tested, 19 fell into the highly needed category, particularly in the professional aspect (Basic Technical Drawing and Cost Estimation) and the pedagogical aspect (Teaching Modules, Lesson Plans, and Learning Outcomes/Objectives). The alignment level between PTB materials and AM competencies showed that 37% of materials were highly aligned, 47% aligned, and 17% less aligned. The Chi-Square test revealed that 19 of 30 materials showed a significant difference (p < 0.05) between course content and AM needs, particularly in practical pedagogical materials such as classroom management, teaching-module preparation, and lesson planning. This study recommends adjusting the PTB curriculum to be more practice-oriented, integrated with industry needs, and to provide authentic teaching experience earlier in the study program.

Abstract

Problem-solving skills are essential twenty-first-century competencies that students need to develop. However, assessment instruments commonly used in schools primarily focus on learning outcomes and have not comprehensively measured students' thinking processes and metacognitive regulation. This study aimed to develop a Socio-Scientific Issue (SSI)-based problem-solving skills assessment instrument integrated with metacognitive aspects on the topic of work and energy, as well as to examine its validity, reliability, item difficulty, discriminating power, and students' problem-solving skills profile. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model. The limited trial involved 33 students, while the large-scale trial involved 103 tenth-grade students of SMA YPM 2 Sukodono Sidoarjo. The data were analyzed using the Percentage of Agreement (PoA), the Rasch Model with the assistance of Winsteps software, and descriptive analysis. The results indicated that the developed instrument possessed excellent validity, with PoA values of 97.67% for content validity, 100% for construct validity, and 97.22% for language validity. Sixteen out of twenty items were empirically validated. The instrument satisfied the unidimensionality requirement, with a Raw Variance Explained by Measures value of 69.5%, and demonstrated excellent reliability, with a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.88, Person Reliability of 0.86, and Item Reliability of 0.96. The instrument also exhibited varied levels of item difficulty, good discriminating power, and indicated that students' problem-solving skills were generally at a moderate level. Therefore, the developed instrument is suitable for assessing SSI-based problem-solving skills integrated with metacognitive aspects.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the social critique of the role of indigenous women in Pramoedya Ananta Toer’s novel Bumi Manusia during the colonial period of 1890–1910, to identify forms of social critique directed at colonialism and patriarchy through the character of Nyai Ontosoroh, and to analyze the positive and negative impacts of her resistance. This study employs a descriptive-analytical qualitative method using a library research approach. Primary data consists of dialogue excerpts and narrative passages from the novel, supplemented by secondary sources from academic journals and history books. The analysis was conducted in three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, with validation through triangulation of sources and theory. The results of the study show that the novel Bumi Manusia serves as a powerful medium for social criticism of structural injustices during the colonial era. The character Nyai Ontosoroh represents an indigenous woman who possesses critical awareness and the capacity for resistance amid layered oppression resulting from the interplay of Javanese patriarchy and Dutch colonialism. Her resistance had a positive impact in the form of a shift in the perspectives of those around her, but it also had negative consequences, including an identity crisis and systemic failures that revealed the limits of individual resistance against totalitarian colonial power.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between students' understanding of Tumpeng Tedak Siten theory and their practical learning outcomes in the Special Dishes subject at SMK Negeri 8 Surabaya. The study is motivated by the importance of integrating theory and practice in vocational learning based on local culture, since Tumpeng Tedak Siten is studied not only as a culinary product but also as a learning medium containing philosophical, symbolic, and spiritual values within Javanese culture. A quantitative correlational design was employed involving 60 Culinary Arts students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire to measure theoretical understanding and documentation of practical scores to measure learning outcomes, then analyzed using Pearson Product Moment correlation with IBM SPSS 24. The results show that both instruments were valid and reliable (Cronbach's Alpha of 0.730 and 0.825), the data were normally distributed and linear, and there was a very strong, significant positive relationship between theoretical understanding and practical learning outcomes (r = 0.938; sig. = 0.000 < 0.05), with a coefficient of determination of 88%. These findings confirm that theoretical mastery is an essential prerequisite for successful practice, so learning strategies that optimally integrate theory and practice are needed to achieve more effective and meaningful learning outcomes.

Abstract

Educational facilities and infrastructure are essential components of learning services and visible evidence through which parents assess the quality and professionalism of an educational institution. This study examines the effect of the quality of educational facilities and infrastructure on the brand image of Madrasah Diniyyah Takmiliyyah (MDT) Al Jamhuriyah Karawang. A quantitative associative-causal design was used. The population consisted of 136 parents, and 58 respondents were selected through proportionate stratified random sampling using a 10% Slovin error level. Data were collected through a four-point Likert questionnaire, observation, and documentation. The analysis included descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, simple linear regression, t-test, and coefficient of determination. The results show that the quality of facilities and infrastructure was rated good with a Weighted Mean Score of 3.253, while brand image was also rated good with a score of 3.227. The Pearson correlation was 0.760, indicating a strong positive relationship. Regression analysis produced Y = 7.819 + 0.749X, with t = 8.738 and p < 0.001. The coefficient of determination was 0.577, meaning that facilities and infrastructure explained 57.7% of the variation in brand image. These findings indicate that improving the availability, feasibility, comfort, cleanliness, safety, and Islamic suitability of facilities can strengthen the perceived image of a nonformal Islamic educational institution.
