Abstract

This study was motivated by the low mathematical problem-solving ability of fourthgrade elementary students in fraction material, particularly in conceptualunderstanding and systematic completion of solution steps. It aims to describe theimplementation of the Peer teaching method assisted by manipulative media and toexamine its effect on students' mathematical problem-solving ability. Using aquantitative quasi-experimental approach with a nonequivalent control groupdesign, the study involved 60 fourth-grade students of SDN Tegalpanjang, dividedequally into an experimental class and a control class. Data were collected throughpretest-posttest written tests and learning-implementation observation sheets, thenanalyzed using normality, homogeneity, and independent samples t-testprocedures. The results showed that the implementation of learning in theexperimental class improved consistently across meetings and reached a highoverall category (71.67%). Welch's t-test on the posttest scores yielded asignificance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a significant effect of the Peerteaching method assisted by manipulative media on students' mathematicalproblem-solving ability. The greatest improvement occurred in the problemunderstanding indicator, while the indicators of implementing the solution andreviewing the results still require further reinforcement. Overall, this method provesto be an effective alternative for improving elementary students' mathematicalproblem-solving ability.

Abstract

The implementation of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in Indonesian basic and secondary education faces significant challenges despite curriculum mandates, leading to suboptimal student cognitive readiness and teacher pedagogical gaps. This study aims to identify the primary challenges and formulate strategic solutions for implementing HOTS-based learning at the basic and secondary education levels. A descriptive-qualitative literature review approach was utilized, systematically analyzing 20 empirical research articles published in SINTA-accredited national journals between 2021 and 2026. The findings reveal four main challenges: teachers' pedagogical competence in designing contextual assessments, students' cognitive readiness and reliance on lower-order thinking, limited interactive media and infrastructure, and rigid curriculum time allocation. Strategic solutions include strengthening professional learning communities, integrating active learning models like Problem-Based Learning and Project-Based Learning with cognitive scaffolding, adopting multirepresentational contextual assessments, and leveraging interactive digital technology. These comprehensive strategies are crucial for optimizing HOTS implementation and fostering 21st-century skills.

Abstract

Mathematical problem-solving ability is an essential competency that should be developed from the elementary school level. One learning model with the potential to foster this ability is the Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, and Create (RADEC) model. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of previous research and examine the contribution of the RADEC model to elementary school students' mathematical problem-solving ability. The study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Literature was retrieved from the Google Scholar and Scopus databases, and the articles were screened based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria, resulting in 15 eligible studies for analysis. The findings indicate that the reviewed studies were predominantly quasi-experimental, complemented by Classroom Action Research and Research and Development approaches, and were implemented across various elementary mathematics topics. Furthermore, the RADEC model positively contributes to students' mathematical problem-solving ability by enhancing conceptual understanding, mathematical thinking, mathematical communication, learning achievement, and learning interest. Therefore, the RADEC model can be considered an effective instructional alternative for improving elementary school students' mathematical problem-solving ability.

Abstract

Students' low understanding of fractional content is due to learning that still dominates the use of lecture methods and textbooks so that abstract concepts are difficult to understand. The purpose of this research is to develop an animation video media based on the CapCut application in learning fractional content mathematics in Grade V of the SDN 14 Belanti Baraat and to test the level of validity, practicality and effectiveness of the developed media. The research uses the research and development (R&D) methodology with the ADDIE model which includes the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation phases. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews, documentation, expert validation questionnaires, teacher and student feedback questionnaires, and learning outcomes testing (pre-test and post-test). The results of the study showed that animated video media achieved a validity value of 90.7% with a very valid category. The level of practicality based on the teacher's response reached 97.85% and the student's response was 88.62%, both of which are in the category of very practical. The effectiveness of the media was shown to increase in average student learning outcomes from 40.86 in the pre-test to 87.24 after reaching 100% of classical completion in the test. Thus, the CapCut-based animation video media has been declared valid, practical, and effective for use in fractional mathematics learning and is able to improve the concept understanding, learning interests, and learning outcomes of elementary school students.
