Abstract

Educational quality is a key indicator of school performance and the success of educational management. The implementation of the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI) is expected to support continuous school improvement through systematic quality management. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of educational quality assurance policy implementation in improving school performance at SD Negeri Kenawa, Central Lombok Regency. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Data were collected through observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The analysis was guided by George C. Edward III’s policy implementation model, which includes communication, resources, disposition, and bureaucratic structure. The findings indicate that the quality assurance policy has been implemented through the establishment of the School Quality Assurance Team (TPMPS), the application of the PPEPP cycle, Data-Based Planning (PBD), academic supervision, and continuous teacher professional development. These efforts contributed to improved literacy and numeracy outcomes. However, school diversity climate, school safety climate, and instructional quality remain areas requiring improvement. The study concludes that the implementation of the quality assurance policy is generally effective but requires continuous strengthening of quality culture, optimization of the PPEPP cycle, and improvement of educational facilities to achieve sustainable school quality enhancement.

Abstract

This study examines the visual representation of good and evil through character appearance in The School for Good and Evil (2022) using Roland Barthes’ semiotic theory. The research aims to reveal how visual signs construct meanings of goodness and evilness through the appearances of the characters in the film. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, the study uses selected screenshots featuring the visual appearances of major characters as the primary data. The analysis focuses on visual elements such as costumes, colors, hairstyles, accessories, facial expressions, and settings. The data are analyzed through Barthes’ three levels of signification: denotation, connotation, and myth (Barthes, 1972; Barthes, 1977). The findings indicate that good characters are visually represented through bright colors, elegant costumes, floral ornaments, soft lighting, and harmonious appearances. At the connotative level, these visual elements signify purity, kindness, beauty, nobility, and social prestige. In contrast, evil characters are represented through dark colors, gothic costumes, dramatic lighting, intimidating appearances, and threatening visual environments. These signs connote power, danger, aggression, rebellion, mystery, and moral threat. Furthermore, at the mythic level, the film reinforces conventional fairy-tale ideologies that associate physical beauty, elegance, and brightness with moral goodness, while associating darkness, monstrous appearances, and destructive power with moral evilness. This study contributes to semiotic film studies by demonstrating how visual signs embedded in character appearance communicate cultural meanings and ideological values related to morality in contemporary fantasy films.

Abstract

Self-regulated learning is the capacity of students to actively manage their own learning process through the stages of planning, performance, and reflection, which plays an important role in determining academic success and motor skill achievement. This study aims to examine the effect of implementing a peer coaching model on the improvement of self-regulated learning among students of SMK 3 Selong in Physical Education. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design was employed, involving 30 students divided into an experimental group (n=15) receiving the peer coaching model and a control group (n=15) following conventional instruction. The equivalence test confirmed that both groups were at a comparable baseline before the intervention (t=0.634; p=0.531). Following the intervention, the experimental group showed a larger increase in self-regulated learning score (gain=10.13) compared to the control group (gain=1.93), with an independent t-test revealing a significant difference (t=2.090; p=0.046) and a large effect size (Cohen's d=0.763). Phase-level analysis showed a consistent upward pattern on the performance and reflection phases, although the subscale-level differences did not reach statistical significance. Supporting observational data showed that the fidelity of peer coaching implementation increased from 77.78 percent in the first session to 91.27 percent in the fifth session, further triangulated by an increase in teacher-observed self-regulated learning behavior scores in the experimental group. These findings provide empirical evidence that the peer coaching model effectively improves the self-regulated learning of vocational high school students in Physical Education and is worth considering as an alternative teaching strategy.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the level of scientific literacy ability of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri Belancan in terms of content knowledge, scientific process skills, and the application of science in daily life contexts. This research employed a quantitative descriptive approach. The subjects of the study were all fifth-grade students of SD Negeri Belancan in the 2025/2026 academic year, totaling 26 students. Data were collected through scientific literacy tests and documentation. The data were analyzed by calculating the mean scores, percentages, and categorizing the results based on predetermined criteria. The results showed that the scientific literacy ability of the fifth-grade students at SD Negeri Belancan was in the high to very high category, with an average score of 82.44%. A total of 18 students were classified in the very high category, while 8 students were in the high category. In the content aspect, students demonstrated a good understanding of basic science concepts. In the process aspect, students showed basic abilities in conducting observations and drawing conclusions; however, they still needed improvement in experimental and scientific inquiry activities. In the context aspect, students were able to relate science concepts to everyday life, although most of them still provided simple explanations that lacked deeper scientific reasoning. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the scientific literacy ability of the fifth-grade students at SD Negeri Belancan is generally high. Nevertheless, scientific process skills and the ability to provide more in-depth scientific explanations still need to be enhanced through more active, contextual, and inquiry-based learning activities.

Abstract

Fifth-grade pupils across the KKG DAPIN II Diponegoro Cluster in Mojogedang Sub- district of Karanganyar Regency showed weak creative thinking. A field visit on 20 November 2025 found teachers leaning on lecturing and drill work. Teacher rating sheets marked roughly half the pupils as weak across fluency and flexibility as well as originality and elaboration. Such a gap prompted the trial reported here. What it set out to examine was the effect of STEAM-based Project Based Learning on the creative thinking of fifth-grade pupils in that cluster during the 2025/2026 school year. A quantitative route was chosen and a quasi-experiment ran under a nonequivalent control group design. Roughly 150 fifth-graders across six schools formed the population. Purposive sampling then narrowed the sample to 25 pupils of SD Negeri 3 Gentungan as the treated group alongside 25 pupils of SD Negeri 2 Gentungan as the untreated group. An essay test of five valid items carried the measurement and returned a Cronbach Alpha of 0.697. Descriptive statistics opened the analysis and a Shapiro-Wilk test together with a Levene test cleared the assumptions before an independent sample t-test settled the hypothesis. The treated group closed at a posttest mean of 86.00 while the untreated group reached only 71.20. A gap of 14.800 points emerged and significance fell to 0.000 which is below 0.05 so H0 could not stand. Cohen d reached 1.72 and lands in the very large band. STEAM-based PjBL therefore shapes creative thinking in a measurable way and deserves a place among IPAS learning options at primary level.

Abstract

The Independent Curriculum demands a learning transformation from rote memory based surface learning to deep learning that builds both conceptual understanding and student character. This study analyzes the effect of the deep learning approach implemented through the pillars of mindful learning, meaningful learning, and joyful learning on strengthening the Pancasila Student Profile of fifth grade students at SDN Mranggen 02 Polokarto in mathematics learning specifically on bar charts. The research used a quantitative approach with a Pre-Experimental One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design on 15 fifth grade students determined through a total sampling technique. The instrument was a 28 item Likert questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro Wilk normality test, the Paired Sample t-Test, and the N-Gain Score test. The results show the data are normally distributed (p > 0.05) and there is a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores (p < 0.05) with an improvement in the moderate to high categories. These findings indicate that the deep learning approach has the potential to meaningfully strengthen the character of elementary school students.

Abstract

The rapid development of social media has transformed TikTok into a digital space that functions not only as a platform for entertainment but also as an arena for the construction of social meanings and consumer culture. This study aims to examine the representation of wealth-display practices and to uncover the process of consumerism normalization in TikTok content through the perspective of James Paul Gee’s Critical Discourse Analysis. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, using TikTok videos portraying luxurious lifestyles as the primary data source. The data, consisting of language, visual symbols, and digital narratives, were collected through observation, documentation, and note-taking techniques and were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that representations of wealth display are constructed through a combination of language, visuals, and narratives that emphasize material ownership as an indicator of success. Analysis based on the Seven Building Tasks of Language framework identifies seven dimensions of discourse construction: significance, practices, identities, relationships, politics, connections, and sign systems and knowledge. These dimensions contribute to shaping the perception that the consumption of luxury goods serves as a symbol of prestige, a means of constructing social identity, and a representation of an ideal lifestyle. The findings indicate that TikTok functions as a medium that reproduces and legitimizes consumerist values within contemporary digital culture.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students' character, teachers' efforts, and the obstacles affecting the effectiveness of the Islamic Religious Education teacher in shaping students' character in class X Fashion Design 1 at State Vocational High School 4 of Jambi City, using a qualitative case-study approach with the Islamic Religious Education teacher as the key informant along with students, the principal, and the guidance and counseling teacher as additional informants. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, and validated through triangulation. The results show that students' character generally developed positively, though some students remained less disciplined and responsible; the teacher shaped character through exemplary conduct, religious habituation, a personal approach, motivation, varied teaching methods, and cooperation with the school and parents; while effectiveness was still constrained by internal factors (differing student character, low motivation, limited time) and external factors (weak parental supervision, peer influence, and social media). Overall, the teacher has played an effective role in shaping students' character, though closer cooperation among the school, families, and the community is still needed.
