Abstract

Learning interest plays a crucial role in promoting students' engagement and persistence in learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL). However, limited studies have explored how students' English learning interest develops within the context of pesantren-based junior secondary schools. This study aimed to explore students' English learning interest at MTs. Raden Rahmat and to identify the factors influencing through the Four-Phase Model of Interest Development. A qualitative case study design was employed involving forty eighth-grade students, with six students purposively selected for semi-structured interviews. One English teacher also participated as a key informant to provide complementary perspectives. Data were collected through questionnaires, classroom observations, and semi-structured interviews and analysed using thematic analysis, while descriptive statistics were used to summarise the questionnaire results. Data triangulation was employed to enhance the trustworthiness of the findings. The findings revealed that 60% of the students demonstrated triggered situational interest, 25% maintained situational interest, and 15% exhibited emerging individual interest, whereas none reached the well-developed individual interest phase. Findings from the interviews further indicated that students perceived English as a difficult subject, low intrinsic motivation, and limited independent learning opportunities were the major factors hindering the development of their learning interest. Overall, the findings suggest that students' English learning interest remains predominantly at the situational level, influenced by meaningful classroom experiences and their perceptions of the relevance and value of English. Therefore, English teachers should implement interactive, contextual, and student-centred instructional practices to foster more sustainable individual interest in learning English.

Abstract

Elementary school students’ curiosity and scientific literacy still need to be improved through the implementation of learning models that actively engage students in the learning process. This study aims to determine the effect of the Naturalistic Intelligence-based Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on elementary school students’ curiosity and scientific literacy. This is a quantitative study using a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design. The research subjects in this study were fifth-grade students at SDN Sukaraja 1, consisting of 36 students in the experimental class and 34 students in the control class. The research instruments used were a questionnaire to measure curiosity and a test to measure scientific literacy. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, prerequisite tests—including normality and homogeneity tests—and hypothesis testing with the aid of IBM SPSS Statistics version 26. The results showed that the significance values for the curiosity variable were 0.000 and for scientific literacy were 0.000, meaning both were < 0.05. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model based on Naturalist Intelligence has an effect on the curiosity and scientific literacy of elementary school students.

Abstract

The development of assistive technology has created significant opportunities to improve educational accessibility for students with visual impairments, particularly in the assessment of learning outcomes. Technologies such as screen readers, refreshable Braille displays, optical character recognition (OCR) applications, and accessible digital assessment platforms enable students to participate in assessment activities more independently without relying on assistance from others. This article aims to analyse the effectiveness of assistive technology as a tool for assessing independent learning outcomes among students with visual impairments through a narrative literature review approach. The data were collected from national and international scholarly articles published between 2021 and 2025, retrieved from Google Scholar, Scopus, ERIC, SpringerLink, and Sage Journals. The selected articles were chosen based on their relevance, credibility, and alignment with the research objectives, and were analysed descriptively through data identification, reduction, synthesis, and interpretation. The findings indicate that the use of assistive technology improves the accessibility of assessment instruments, promotes students' independent learning, enhances the objectivity of assessment, and increases learners' confidence in participating in educational evaluation. However, its effectiveness is influenced by the availability of technological resources, teachers' competence in developing accessible assessment instruments, and students' digital literacy. Therefore, policy support, adequate technological infrastructure, and continuous professional development for teachers are essential to optimise the implementation of assistive technology in creating inclusive, fair, and learner-centred assessment practices for students with visual impairments

Abstract

Children with Down syndrome often experience delays in language development, particularly in recognizing alphabet letters, which become the foundation of early literacy skills. Appropriate instructional media are therefore needed to provide meaningful and multisensory learning experiences. This study aimed to determine the effect of Sandpaper Letters media on the letter recognition ability of children with Down syndrome at SLB Bhakti Kencana I. The study employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental method with a One-Group Pretest–Posttest Design. The research participants consisted of five students with Down syndrome selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a letter recognition performance test consisting of 15 validated items covering the abilities to identify, name, distinguish, match, and recall letters. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test with IBM SPSS Statistics. The findings indicated an increase in students' mean scores from 25.20 on the pretest to 51.60 on the posttest. The Wilcoxon test produced an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.043, which was lower than the significance level of 0.05, indicating a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. These findings demonstrate that the use of Sandpaper Letters media significantly improves the letter recognition ability of children with Down syndrome. Therefore, Sandpaper Letters can be considered an effective multisensory learning medium to support early literacy instruction for children with special educational needs.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze efforts to improve teacher performance through Work of Life, Knowledge Management, and Work Ethic at Private Vocational High Schools Cluster 2, South Tangerang City. The study employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The research sample consisted of 145 teachers, selected using the Slovin formula. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression analysis. The results indicate that Work of Life, Knowledge Management, and Work Ethic have both partial and simultaneous positive and significant effects on Teacher Performance. Partially, Work of Life has a standardized regression coefficient (Beta) of 0.433 (t = 8.314; Sig. = 0.000), Knowledge Management has a Beta coefficient of 0.315 (t = 5.981; Sig. = 0.000), and Work Ethic has a Beta coefficient of 0.258 (t = 4.945; Sig. = 0.000). Simultaneously, the ANOVA test shows that the calculated F-value (F = 391.664) is greater than the critical F-value (F = 2.695) with a significance level of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating that the three independent variables jointly have a positive and significant effect on Teacher Performance. The coefficient of determination (R² = 0.906) indicates that 90.6% of the variation in Teacher Performance can be explained by Work of Life, Knowledge Management, and Work Ethic, while the remaining 9.4% is influenced by other factors outside the research model. Based on the standardized regression coefficients (Beta), Work of Life is the most dominant variable affecting Teacher Performance, followed by Knowledge Management and Work Ethic. The findings suggest that improving teacher performance requires strengthening Work of Life practices, optimizing Knowledge Management, and continuously developing Work Ethic to enhance teachers' professionalism and support the achievement of higher educational quality in Private Vocational High Schools Cluster 2, South Tangerang City.

Abstract

This study aims to describe conversational implicatures between sellers and buyers at the Central Market of Takalar Regency based on violations of Grice's cooperative principle maxims. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The data consisted of utterances in buying and selling interactions collected through observation, recording, and note-taking techniques. The data were analyzed based on Grice's four conversational maxims: quantity, quality, relevance, and manner. The results showed that, out of 178 utterances analyzed, 30 utterances contained maxim violations, consisting of 14 violations of the maxim of quantity, 8 violations of the maxim of quality, 5 violations of the maxim of relevance, and 3 violations of the maxim of manner. These violations generated implicatures that functioned as communication strategies to convey intended meanings indirectly, such as providing additional information, persuading and attracting buyers, maintaining prices, and expressing refusal. Therefore, maxim violations in buying and selling interactions do not merely indicate communication failure but can serve as pragmatic strategies to achieve communicative goals according to the context of interaction.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly Generative AI, has profoundly reshaped the landscape of higher education. This transformation extends beyond the digitalization of teaching and learning, influencing how knowledge is created, shared, and reconstructed within academic environments. Despite the growing body of research on AI in higher education, most studies continue to frame AI primarily as a pedagogical tool for improving learning effectiveness. Consequently, limited attention has been given to understanding how AI reconfigures the broader learning ecology by reshaping the relationships among human actors, technology, academic culture, and institutional governance. This study aims to reconstruct the paradigm of higher education through the perspective of AI-based learning ecology by proposing the AI Learning Ecology Framework as a conceptual model. Employing a qualitative approach with a library research method and an integrative literature review design, this study synthesizes evidence from internationally indexed journals, SINTA-accredited national journals, scholarly books, and official publications issued by UNESCO and the OECD. The collected literature was analyzed through thematic synthesis to identify recurring patterns, research gaps, and conceptual relationships. The findings indicate that the transformation of higher education should be understood as an ecological process shaped by the dynamic interaction of six interconnected components: human agency, intelligent technology, pedagogical design, academic culture, institutional governance, and ethical and humanistic values. Within this framework, AI is positioned as a cognitive partner that strengthens human capabilities rather than replacing the roles of educators and students. The study concludes that the successful integration of AI depends not merely on technological sophistication but on the ability of higher education institutions to cultivate an adaptive, collaborative, ethical, and human-centered learning ecology. The proposed AI Learning Ecology Framework offers a conceptual foundation for developing policies, curricula, and learning strategies that are responsive to the evolving demands of the digital era.
