Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms of difficulties experienced by fourth-grade students at SD KUB Muhammadiyah Purworejo in solving mathematics word problems based on information processing theory, and to identify the internal and external factors influencing these difficulties. This research used a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data collection techniques and instruments included tests, observations, interviews, documentation, and field notes. The research subjects were 26 fourth-grade students, with 4 students selected as interview informants using purposive sampling technique. Data validity used source triangulation and technique triangulation. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model which includes data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The first result showed based on analysis of students' difficulties in solving mathematics word problems on multiplication and division materials reviewed from information processing theory, students experienced difficulties in three stages: encoding, storage, and retrieval. At the encoding stage, 4 students experienced difficulties in receiving and understanding problem information, finding important information, and identifying keywords. At the storage stage, 4 students experienced difficulties in storing information, such as confusion in determining the appropriate arithmetic operations and planning solution steps. At the retrieval stage, 4 students experienced difficulties in recalling information, such as writing solution steps, final answers, and conclusions completely. The second result showed that these difficulties were influenced by internal factors such as learning interest, learning motivation, self-confidence, concentration, and memory, as well as external factors such as teacher roles, peers, parents or learning companions, learning media, and learning environment.

Abstract

The development of social media has brought significant changes to the lives of young people, but it has also created challenges in the form of digital narcissism, namely the tendency to focus excessively on oneself and depend on social validation from others. This study aims to investigate the role of Christian Education in addressing the phenomenon of digital narcissism among young people. The research employs a qualitative approach using the Systematic Literature Review method through an examination of journals, books, and research reports published between 2015–2025 obtained from Google Scholar, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and other sources. The findings indicate that digital narcissism is influenced by several major factors, namely Fear of Missing Out (FoMO), the need for social validation, and social environmental pressures, which are reflected in behaviors such as seeking attention, excessive self-presentation, and dependence on others’ responses on social media. In addressing this phenomenon, Christian Education plays a role through three main approaches: the use of digital media in accordance with biblical principles, reflective and transformational education, and pastoral mentoring for young people. These three approaches help shape a strong identity, foster Christian character, and encourage responsible use of digital media. This study emphasizes that collaboration between education, the church, and spiritual mentoring is an important step in helping young people overcome digital narcissism, grow in faith, and develop strong character amid the challenges of the digital era.

Abstract

Although previous studies have examined smartphone-based assessment in EFL contexts, empirical research directly addressing teachers' experiences with smartphone-based summative assessment, particularly regarding its accuracy and implementation challenges remains limited. This study aims to explore teachers' perceptions of the smartphone-based summative assessment, to examine whether the results accurately reflect students' actual abilities, and to identify the challenges and benefits teachers experience in its implementation. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method, conducted at MA NW Korleko, involving two English teachers selected through purposive sampling. Data was collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using an interactive model of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that smartphone-based summative assessment was effective in terms of administrative convenience and grading speed, but not yet effective in measuring students' English proficiency, as the application used could only assess two skills, reading and writing. Regarding accuracy, results did not always reflect students' true proficiency, as some students reportedly exploited a security loophole to bypass anti-cheating features. This study concludes that the effectiveness of smartphone-based summative assessment depends heavily on the quality of the application and the readiness of supporting technical infrastructure, rather than on the assessment method itself.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the increasing public interest in performing the Umrah pilgrimage, which has been accompanied by the rapid growth of Umrah Travel Organizers (Penyelenggara Perjalanan Ibadah Umrah / PPIU) and several cases of legal protection abuse involving pilgrims, including the First Travel and Abu Tours cases. This study aims to examine the impact of the abuse of legal protection on the pilgrims of PT. Bima Tour and to analyze the legal protection provided from the perspective of Islamic economic law. A qualitative method with a case study approach was employed. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that no actual cases of legal protection abuse causing losses to the pilgrims of PT. Bima Tour were identified, either in terms of financial loss, fulfillment of pilgrims’ rights, departure schedules, safety, or trust. However, a potential risk was found due to the absence of written Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for handling customer complaints. From the perspective of Islamic economic law, the legal relationship between PT. Bima Tour and its pilgrims is based on the wakalah bil ujrah contract, which complies with the principles of justice ('adl), trustworthiness (amanah), honesty (shiddiq), mutual consent (ridha), and is free from gharar. Nevertheless, transparency regarding travel insurance information still requires improvement. Overall, the legal protection provided by PT. Bima Tour is generally consistent with the principles of Islamic economic law.

Abstract

Conceptual understanding is a fundamental component of mathematics learning in primary education, and concrete manipulatives are often recommended to support students’ transition from real objects to symbolic representation. This study examines the effectiveness of two concrete learning media (Sate Bilangan and Colored Cubes) in facilitating students’ conceptual understanding of whole numbers and basic arithmetic operations. A quantitative approach was employed using a quasi-experimental design that involved a control group and two experimental groups. The test instruments were validated prior to use, and data were analyzed through prerequisite testing, analysis of variance, and post hoc procedures to identify differences between groups. The use of both concrete media led to improved conceptual understanding compared to conventional instruction. Sate Bilangan helped students recognize number structure through directed manipulative activities, whereas Colored Cubes strengthened understanding of place value and regrouping through spatial representation. Analysis of conceptual indicators showed that both media supported gains in areas related to representation and students’ ability to restate mathematical ideas. No meaningful difference in effectiveness was observed between the two media. Concrete manipulatives provide meaningful support for primary mathematics learning by guiding students through gradual conceptual development and reducing cognitive load when working with mathematical symbols. Future research may extend the scope of content, explore combinations of concrete and digital media, or investigate long-term retention and the role of mathematics anxiety in diverse classroom contexts.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has transformed English language teaching, particularly listening instruction. Although various digital technologies have been integrated into classroom practices, the implementation of technology integration and contextual learning to promote students’ participation and classroom interaction in listening instruction requires further investigation. Therefore, this study aimed to describe the implementation of technology integration and contextual learning in English listening instruction. This study employed a descriptive qualitative research design. The research was conducted at a private senior high school in Pontianak involving one English teacher and 17 Grade XI students. Five students were purposively selected for semi-structured interviews. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis. The credibility of the findings was enhanced through data triangulation by comparing information obtained from multiple data sources. The data were analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s thematic analysis. The findings revealed that technology integration was implemented through the use of YouTube, Quizizz, audio recordings, smartphones, and other digital media during listening instruction. Contextual learning was reflected in authentic listening activities related to students’ daily experiences, encouraging active participation through classroom discussions, responses to teachers’ questions, completion of listening tasks, and peer collaboration. However, several challenges were identified, including unstable internet connections, limited technological facilities, and difficulties in understanding native-speaker pronunciation. The study concludes that integrating technology with contextual learning creates a more interactive, meaningful, and engaging listening learning environment while providing practical insights for English teachers in designing technology-supported listening instruction.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the increase in student learning motivation through the application of the Flash Card learning method in the subjects of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) and Character Building in class VIII.C SMP Negeri 11 Makassar. This study uses Classroom Action Research (CAR) with the John Elliot model which is implemented in two cycles. Each cycle includes the stages of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects numbered 28 students consisting of 13 boys and 15 girls. Data collection techniques used observation, interviews, documentation, and a learning motivation assessment rubric. Data were analyzed quantitatively through calculating the average and percentage of learning motivation, and qualitatively through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the application of the Flash Card learning method is able to increase student learning motivation. This increase is seen from the increasing activity of students in participating in learning, increasing attention to teacher explanations, courage to express opinions, active discussions, enthusiasm for completing assignments, and enthusiasm in participating in learning. In addition, the learning atmosphere becomes more interesting, interactive, and student-centered compared to learning using the lecture method. The learning improvements implemented in each cycle also had a positive impact on student engagement during the learning process. Thus, the Flash Card learning method has proven effective in increasing student motivation in Islamic Religious Education and Character Education in class VIII.C of SMP Negeri 11 Makassar. Therefore, this method can be used as an alternative, innovative learning strategy to create a more active, enjoyable, and meaningful learning process.
