Abstract

The development of technology has made gadgets an integral part of teenagers' daily lives. Even though they offer various benefits, excessive use of gadgets can have negative effects, so parental supervision is needed. The purpose of this study is to describe teenagers' experiences in complying with parental rules regarding gadget use. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. The research subjects were teenagers aged 11 to 13 years old attending several schools in Southeast Minahasa Regency. Data were collected through structured interviews and observations, and then analyzed qualitatively. The results show that all informants use gadgets every day for about 2 to 4 hours to communicate, study, play games, watch videos, and participate in religious activities. Parents provide various forms of supervision, such as limiting the time children spend using gadgets, checking the gadgets their children have used, confiscating their gadgets if rules are broken, and giving advice or punishment, which are forms of parental guidance for children. Most teenagers feel annoyed, disturbed, or angry when being supervised by their parents while using gadgets or when their gadgets are taken away. But after these incidents, teenagers understand the purpose of parental supervision, which is to protect them from excessive gadget use and to build more disciplined habits. This research shows that parental supervision plays an important role in helping teenagers develop wiser and more responsible gadget use.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of assessment-based deep learning in a primary school classroom, focusing on how the principles of meaningful, mindful, and joyful learning are enacted through formative and authentic assessment practices. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, involving 15 fifth-grade students and their homeroom teacher at SDN Geneng 02. Data were collected through classroom observation across several learning sessions, semi-structured interviews with the teacher, and documentation of lesson plans and student work, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the teacher gradually integrated the three principles of deep learning into daily instruction: meaningful learning was realized through contextual tasks connected to students' everyday experiences; mindful learning appeared in reflective activities and student self-monitoring; and joyful learning was expressed through collaborative games and a warm classroom climate. Formative assessment, carried out through questioning, portfolios, and peer feedback, functioned as the main instrument connecting these three principles, allowing the teacher to continuously monitor students' conceptual understanding rather than relying solely on end-of-unit tests. Most students showed a high level of engagement and enthusiasm, although reflective and metacognitive skills still required further scaffolding. These findings suggest that assessment-based deep learning is feasible in resource-limited primary schools when teachers deliberately design assessment as an integral part of the learning process rather than as a separate evaluative activity.

Abstract

This study analyzes the representation of female dominance in the 2024 Netflix film The Shadow Strays, directed by Timo Tjahjanto, using John Fiske's semiotic approach encompassing three levels of analysis: reality, representation, and ideology. The film features a female protagonist, Nomi, a hired assassin who dominates masculine spaces within the action genre. Through analysis of 23 selected scenes covering visual, cinematographic, and narrative elements, this study finds that female dominance is consistently represented through masculine costuming and makeup, camera techniques positioning women in strategic and superior roles, and dialogue that systematically subverts patriarchal expectations. At the ideological level, the film advances feminist values by depicting an organization entirely led by women and moral conflicts resolved without male intervention. This study contributes to understanding how film media shapes public discourse on gender equality, particularly through the representation of female masculinity in contemporary Indonesian cinema, while offering insights for the film industry to continue producing strong, ideologically grounded narratives centered on women.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between Numeracy Literacy Competence and Critical Thinking Skills among sixth-grade students at MI Nurul Ittihad, Jambi City. This research employed a quantitative correlational approach, involving 37 students as the research sample. Data were collected through two test instruments, namely a Numeracy Literacy test and a Critical Thinking Skills test, each consisting of 20 multiple-choice items, which were confirmed valid and reliable (Cronbach's Alpha of 0.891 and 0.904, respectively). Data were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment correlation and simple linear regression after the normality and linearity assumptions were met. The results show a positive and significant relationship between the two variables, with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.651 (strong category) and Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05. The regression equation obtained was Ŷ = 39.325 + 0.445X, with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.424, indicating that Numeracy Literacy Competence contributed 42.4% to students' Critical Thinking Skills. These findings imply the importance of strengthening contextual problem-solving-based numeracy literacy instruction as a strategy to develop students' critical thinking skills at the elementary/madrasah level.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of the Raudlatul Huffadz Islamic Boarding School in Bali in instilling the values of religious moderation in students through a library study approach. The study used a library research method with a qualitative approach. Data were obtained from various sources, such as books, scientific articles, previous research results, and relevant documents, then analyzed using content analysis techniques. The results of the study indicate that the Raudlatul Huffadz Islamic Boarding School in Bali has a significant role in shaping the moderate attitudes of students through religious learning, the example of kiai and ustaz, the habit of living together, strengthening national values, and the application of a culture of tolerance in everyday life. The existence of the Islamic boarding school in the midst of Balinese society, which is predominantly Hindu, also serves as a means for students to learn to live side by side, respect differences, and build harmonious social relationships without reducing their commitment to Islamic teachings. The instillation of religious moderation is supported by a conducive Islamic boarding school environment, a culture of deliberation and mutual cooperation, the competence of educators, and cooperation between the Islamic boarding school, family, community, and government. On the other hand, this process still faces various challenges, such as increasing intolerance, the spread of radicalism through digital media, low digital literacy, and the suboptimal integration of religious moderation values in several educational institutions. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the Raudlatul Huffadz Islamic Boarding School in Bali plays a crucial role in developing the character of religious, tolerant students who are able to live harmoniously in a pluralistic society. Therefore, strengthening religious moderation needs to be carried out continuously through synergy between various parties to create a peaceful, harmonious life and mutual respect for diversity.
