Abstract

This study was motivated by the suboptimal implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in IPAS (Integrated Science and Social Studies) learning, which has an impact on students’ cognitive abilities, particularly higher-order thinking skills. The purpose of this study was to describe the implementation of the PBL model and to analyze students’ cognitive abilities facilitated through PBL based on the revised Bloom’s Taxonomy (C1–C6). This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. The subjects of this study were a fifth-grade teacher and students of MI As-Salam Bogo Nganjuk. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, while data analysis was conducted using an interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the implementation of PBL had been carried out through stages including problem orientation, student organization, investigation, presentation of results, and evaluation; however, it had not been implemented optimally and consistently. Students’ cognitive abilities were still dominated by lower-order thinking skills, namely remembering (C1) and understanding (C2), while higher-order thinking skills such as applying (C3), analyzing (C4), evaluating (C5), and creating (C6) had not developed optimally. These findings were influenced by students’ limited understanding of problems, low participation in discussions, and teachers’ constraints in managing problem-based learning. Therefore, improvements in the implementation of PBL are needed to enhance students’ cognitive abilities more effectively.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve fourth-grade students’ understanding of data presentation concepts through the implementation of a Matematika Berbasis Game (MBG). The study was motivated by students’ low conceptual understanding of mathematics, particularly in data presentation, as well as the limited use of engaging learning media in the classroom. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles, involving 28 fourth-grade students. Data were collected through observations and concept-understanding tests. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ learning outcomes after the implementation of the Matematika Berbasis Game. Classical learning mastery increased from 32% in the pre-cycle stage, with an average score of 57.7, to 68% in Cycle I, with an average score of 71.7, through a bowling game activity. In Cycle II, the use of the “Data Dice” game further improved classical learning mastery to 93%, with an average score of 83.9. In addition to enhancing learning outcomes, the game-based worksheet also increased students’ participation, motivation, self-confidence, and engagement in the learning process. Therefore, the Mathematics Game-Based Student Worksheet (MBG) was proven to be effective in improving students’ understanding of data presentation concepts in elementary school mathematics learning.

Abstract

Stigma and low social acceptance toward children with special needs remain major challenges in inclusive education. These conditions may hinder students’ social interaction, learning participation, and their academic and emotional development. This study aims to analyze previous research findings regarding forms of stigma, levels of social acceptance, influencing factors, and strategies to create a more inclusive school environment for children with special needs. The study employs a qualitative descriptive approach using a literature review method by analyzing relevant journal articles, books, and educational documents. The results indicate that stigma toward children with special needs is commonly manifested through negative labeling, stereotyping, discrimination, and social exclusion. Conversely, positive social acceptance is influenced by knowledge, attitudes, interaction experiences, school support, and the development of an inclusive culture. These findings emphasize the importance of strengthening inclusive values, increasing awareness within school communities, and promoting collaboration among teachers, students, and parents to enhance social acceptance in inclusive schools.

Abstract

The low mathematics learning outcomes of students in Vocational High Schools (SMKs) remain a significant issue that requires serious attention. This problem is primarily caused by learning processes that do not fully engage students actively and by the limited use of varied and innovative learning models. This study aimed to determine the effect of implementing the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model combined with a Game-Based Learning (GBL) approach on the mathematics learning outcomes of Year 11 students at SMKN 1 Simpang Alahan Mati, Pasaman Regency. This research employed a quantitative approach using a true experimental method with a post-test-only control group design. The sample consisted of two classes: Year 11 Computer and Network Engineering (TKJ) as the experimental group, which received instruction through the PBL model with a GBL approach, and Year 11 Motorcycle Engineering (TSM) as the control group, which received conventional instruction. The research instrument was a mathematics achievement test that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data were collected through the administration of a post-test after the learning treatments had been implemented. Data analysis was conducted using the non-parametric Mann–Whitney test because the data were not normally distributed. The findings revealed a significant difference in mathematics learning outcomes between the experimental and control groups. The mean score of the experimental group was 87.67, which was higher than that of the control group, 70.45. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of the PBL model with a GBL approach is effective in improving students’ mathematics learning outcomes and in creating a more active, engaging, and meaningful learning environment.
