Abstract

This study examines the role of transformational principals in building teacher Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) through participatory academic supervision. The background of this study is the urgency of improving teacher professionalism as the key to educational quality, but the integration between transformational leadership and participatory supervision in the formation of PCLs is still less elaborated in the literature. The purpose of this study is to analyze the role of transformational principals in facilitating PCLs, identify effective participatory supervision strategies that are implemented, and explore their impact on improving teacher professionalism. This study uses a qualitative multi-site case study method, allowing for in-depth data mining and cross-context comparisons. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed thematically to identify patterns and meanings. The results show that transformational principals play a crucial role as inspirators and facilitators, actively implementing collaborative supervision strategies that effectively encourage the formation and strengthening of PCLs. This implementation resulted in significant improvements in collaboration between teachers, pedagogical capacity, intrinsic motivation, and teacher reflection culture. The conclusion of this study is that the principal's transformational leadership, combined with participatory academic supervision, is a very effective strategy for building and strengthening teacher KBP, which in turn directly improves teacher professionalism. This study provides valuable contributions to school leadership practices and teacher professional development policy formulation, confirming participatory supervision as an effective strategy for continuously improving the quality of education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the use of Wordwall multimedia on the learning outcomes of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Khulafaur Rasyidin material in Integrated VII grade students at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Medan. The method used is quantitative with a quasi-experimental approach, using a pretest-posttest design in the experimental group given learning with Wordwall multimedia and the control group with conventional media, namely Al-Islam books with a sample of 60 students. The research instrument was a 20-item multiple choice test that had been declared valid and reliable. Data analysis began with descriptive test, Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and Levene homogeneity test, which showed that the posttest data were not normally distributed and the variances were not uniform. Therefore, the Mann-Whitney U nonparametric test was used to test the hypothesis at a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that the use of Wordwall multimedia significantly improved students' learning outcomes. The average posttest score of the experimental group, which used Wordwall-based learning, increased from 67.17 to 88.00, showing a substantial improvement. In contrast, the control group that received conventional learning only increased from 57.50 to 71.00. Analysis using the Mann-Whitney U test revealed a U value of 232.50 and Z of -3.241, with p = 0.001. This shows that the difference in the improvement of learning outcomes between the two groups is significant (p < 0.05). With the mean rank of the experimental group's posttest reaching 37.75, much higher than the control group which was only 23.25, it can be concluded that Wordwall multimedia has a significant positive impact on Islamic Religious Education learning outcomes at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Medan. The implication of this result shows that the application of technology in learning can improve the understanding of important concepts in Islamic education.

Abstract

SMP Negeri 3 is an outstanding school, one of its achievements is recorded as the school that produces the most leading teachers in Welahan sub-district in 2024-2025. In an effort to further empower the potential of leading teachers for school progress, democratic leadership of the principal is needed who is able to empower the potential of these teachers. This study aims to describe the implementation of democratic leadership of the principal in empowering teachers at SMP Negeri 3 Welahan. The sub-focus of the study includes participatory decision-making, and management and facilitation, Qualitative research methods with case study types in the SMP Negeri 3 Welahan area. Data collection techniques use observation, interviews and documentation. The research design begins with pre-field, field tests, and data analysis. Data analysis techniques include data collection, data condensation, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that the principal applies participatory decision-making by involving teachers in various discussion forums, coordination meetings, and open deliberations. The principal prepares a teacher empowerment program through needs analysis, develops alternative work procedures through group discussions and manages resources by supporting self-development communities that are carried out according to school needs. The research recommendations are aimed at related parties in developing evaluation mechanisms for teacher empowerment programs on real learning quality with measurable indicators.

Abstract

Students' low understanding of arithmetic operations is caused by a lack of active participation during the learning process, leading to boredom and suboptimal engagement in lessons. To address this issue, interactive learning media that align with students' cognitive development stages are needed. This study aims to describe the development process, level of validity, and user responses toward the use of ice stick-based media employing the Montessori method for arithmetic operations material in Grade II at SD Islam Plus YLPI Pekanbaru. This is a development study using the ADDIE model, consisting of four stages: Analysis, Design, Development, and Implementation. The Evaluation stage was not conducted separately, as it was integrated into the validation and trial processes. The study involved two media expert validators, one Grade II teacher, and six Grade II students. Data were collected using expert validation sheets and teacher and student response questionnaires, which were analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. The results showed that the media achieved a very high level of validity, with a score of 94.1%. The teacher's response reached 100%, while the students’ response was 98.3%, indicating that the media is easy to use, engaging, and relevant to students’ learning needs. Therefore, the ice stick-based media is considered appropriate to be used as an interactive and enjoyable learning tool.

Abstract

This study aims to examine in depth the role of scouting activities in fostering student discipline at SMP Negeri 9 Samarinda. The background of this study is the low awareness of student discipline which can be seen from tardiness, incompleteness of attributes, and violation of rules even though school sanctions have been applied. Scouting was chosen as an informal media that is loaded with the values of discipline, responsibility, cooperation, and toughness, so that it is considered effective as a character building strategy. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with direct observation techniques, interviews with coaches, schools, students, and documentation of activities such as attendance and competition reports. The results of the study show that activities such as routine exercises, marching, outbound, camps, and skill competitions are able to increase students' awareness of discipline, neatness, and compliance with rules. The habituation method through weekly exercises, ceremonies, educational sanctions, and awarding achievements has proven to be effective in instilling discipline in a sustainable manner. The pattern of positive and negative reinforcement forms the intrinsic motivation of students so that they obey not because of fear of punishment, but because of personal awareness. However, this study also found challenges such as the variability of coach commitment, limited facilities and funds, and the lack of systematic evaluation of student character. Therefore, it is recommended that schools increase the frequency and variety of scouting activities, establish cooperation with parents and external institutions, and train coaches in effective activity management and sanctioning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of gadget usage intensity on the learning motivation of elementary school students. The background of this research stems from concerns over the increasing use of gadgets among children, which may potentially decrease their focus and enthusiasm for learning. This study employs a quantitative approach with a correlational design to examine the relationship between gadget usage intensity as the independent variable and learning motivation as the dependent variable. The research subjects consisted of fifth and sixth-grade students from several private elementary schools under the Dabin Yos Sudarso cluster, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a Likert scale questionnaire covering frequency and duration of gadget use, as well as learning motivation indicators based on Uno’s theory. The instrument was tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was conducted using Pearson Product Moment correlation with the help of SPSS version 26. The results show a significant influence between gadget usage intensity and learning motivation, with a regression coefficient value of 0.675 and a significance level of 0.000 (< 0.05). The higher the intensity of gadget use—especially for entertainment and social media—the lower the students’ learning motivation. Learning activities through gadgets tend to be minimal and are unable to compensate for the distractions from non-educational content. The findings highlight the importance of supervision and guidance from parents and teachers in directing gadget usage appropriately, so that technology serves as a learning support rather than a hindrance.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors that contribute to early reading difficulties among third-grade students (Class III C) at SDN 193 Pekanbaru. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. The conceptual framework is based on Jeanne Chall’s theory of early reading development, which views reading ability as the result of interactions between cognitive readiness, literacy environment, and affective support. The research subjects consisted of one homeroom teacher and four students experiencing reading difficulties. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that early reading difficulties are influenced by external factors such as limited support from families and inadequate school facilities. This is supported by a student’s statement that they did not have any books at home, which prevented them from practicing reading. Internal factors also play a role, including low reading interest, lack of motivation, underdeveloped social-emotional maturity, and variations in students’ cognitive abilities. These findings are reinforced by the teacher’s observation that students often lose focus while reading and quickly become bored. Efforts made by the teacher include individual guidance, the use of interactive learning strategies, and the provision of positive reinforcement. However, the integration of technology into reading activities remains limited. This highlights the need for greater family involvement and the development of teachers’ capacity to utilize appropriate methods and media to support students’ early reading skills.

Abstract

One of the efforts that can be made to make the learning process more engaging and meaningful is through the use of instructional media such as PowerPoint. This study aims to develop interactive PowerPoint-based learning media for fifth-grade science material with the topic "The Human Digestive System" at SDN 011 Lenggadai Hulu. The background of this research stems from interviews with teachers, which revealed that the teaching process is still conventional and has not utilized engaging media, resulting in low student interest and participation. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model but was only carried out up to the development stage. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and validation by media and content experts. The validation results indicate that the developed interactive PowerPoint media is highly suitable for use in learning, in terms of content, visual design, and ease of use. This media is expected to serve as an innovative solution to enhance the effectiveness and student engagement in science learning, as well as to instill environmental awareness from an early age.

Abstract

This study is based on the importance of religious education, particularly in nurturing students' worship practices, as a foundation for character development from an early age. In today's digital era, the utilization of digital learning media has become a promising strategy to improve the quality of teaching, including in Islamic Religious Education. This research aims to examine the use of digital learning media in supporting students' worship development at SDS IT Al Fatih, evaluate its effectiveness, and identify the challenges encountered during implementation. A qualitative approach was employed, using data collection techniques such as in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation.The findings reveal that digital media, such as educational videos, learning applications, and web-based platforms, significantly enhance students’ motivation and understanding of worship-related materials. Teaching strategies combined with digital media, such as expository methods and discussions, positively impact student engagement and learning outcomes. However, several challenges were identified, including limited technological infrastructure, varying levels of digital literacy among students and teachers, and time constraints in delivering the learning content. The successful integration of digital media is highly dependent on the availability of school facilities and teachers’ competence in utilizing educational technology. In conclusion, this study affirms that incorporating digital media in worship learning significantly improves the quality of Islamic education at the elementary level. Therefore, a more structured and sustainable implementation strategy is necessary to ensure that digital media effectively supports interactive, contextual, and meaningful learning experiences.

Abstract

The problem raised in this study is related to the low learning outcomes of students, which is partly caused by the lack of enthusiasm and involvement of students in the learning process. This condition indicates the need for the application of a learning approach that is more interesting and in accordance with the characteristics of students at the elementary school level. This study aims to analyze the effect of using the game-based learning model assisted by the Educandy platform on the learning outcomes of Social Science (IPS) grade IV students at SD Negeri 138 Pekanbaru. The approach used is quantitative with pseudo experimental method with quasi experimental design with purposive sampling technique. The research sample consisted of 35 experimental group students and 33 control group students. Data collection in the study was carried out with multiple choice test questions as many as 22 items and analyzed using an independent sample test with the help of SPSS 25. Based on the results of the independent sample t-test, the average posttest value of the experimental class was 82.23 with a standard deviation of 12.317, while the control class had an average of 75.76 with a standard deviation of 14.013. This shows that the experimental class obtained higher learning outcomes compared to the control class. The significance test shows a p-value of 0.047, which is smaller than α = 0.05 (p < 0.05), so H₀ is rejected and Hₐ is accepted. This result is supported by the comparison of the tcount and ttable values, where the tcount of 2.025 is greater than the ttable of 1.668 (tcount > ttable). Thus, it can be concluded that the game-based learning model assisted by the Educandy platform has a significant effect on students' cognitive learning outcomes in social studies subjects.
