Abstract

Star fruit (Averrhoa bilimbi Linn.) contains flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and triterpenoids that contribute to wound healing. Flavonoids act as antioxidants, tannins reduce inflammation, saponins stimulate collagen formation, and triterpenoids support tissue regeneration. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of 10% and 20% ethanolic extracts of belimbing wuluh in influencing superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) expression as well as fibroblast count in traumatic ulcers. An in vivo experimental design with a post-test only control group was conducted on male Wistar rats for 5 days. Subjects were divided into five groups: standard control, negative control (placebo), positive control (0.1% triamcinolone acetonide), treatment I (10% gel extract), and treatment II (20% gel extract). Kruskal–Wallis analysis showed significant differences among groups (p = 0.0001) for all parameters. The Mann–Whitney post hoc test indicated significant differences between the treatment and control groups, with p = 0.002 in most comparisons. The 20% concentration resulted in higher increases in SOD expression and fibroblast numbers, and greater reductions in MDA levels compared to the 10% concentration. Therefore, the ethanolic gel extract of belimbing wuluh is effective as an antioxidant in promoting the healing of traumatic ulcers, particularly through the activity of flavonoids as free radical scavengers and stimulators of fibroblast proliferation.

Abstract

Teenage premarital pregnancy is a population issue that requires preventive efforts involving various parties, including traditional leaders as part of the community around adolescents. This study aimed to determine the influence of transformational leadership style on the role of traditional leaders in preventing teenage premarital pregnancy. This observational study used a cross-sectional design involving 200 traditional leaders selected through a simple random sampling technique. The independent variables were transformational leadership style and sociodemographic factors, while the dependent variable was the role of traditional leaders in preventing teenage premarital pregnancy. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using univariate analysis, bivariate analysis with the Chi-square test, and multivariate analysis with multiple logistic regression. The results showed that sociodemographic factors (age, gender, education, occupation, and income) did not significantly influence the role of traditional leaders (p>0.05). However, work experience had a significant effect (OR=0.514, p=0.023). Transformational leadership style also had a significant influence (OR=15.910, p=0.001). Multivariate analysis revealed that transformational leadership style was the most influential factor on the role of traditional leaders (OR=17.127, 95% CI=8.093–36.246, p<0.001). It can be concluded that transformational leadership style plays a crucial role in strengthening the role of traditional leaders in preventing teenage premarital pregnancy. Transformational leadership training programs for traditional leaders are strongly recommended, and collaboration between government and health institutions with traditional leaders in adolescent reproductive health programs should be enhanced.

Abstract

Key lime (Citrus aurantifolia) contains vitamin C and bioactive compounds that promote tissue repair and skin regeneration. The combination of key lime and slaked lime may help reduce stretch marks in postpartum women. Vitamin C in key lime and hydroxide compounds in slaked lime are thought to accelerate skin regeneration while exfoliating dead skin cells. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of the combination of key lime and slaked lime in reducing stretch marks among postpartum women. The research employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The sample consisted of twenty postpartum women (6 hours to 7 days after delivery) selected through purposive sampling, conducted from September to December 2024 at Paradise Mother and Child Hospital, Tanah Bumbu Regency. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied to determine eligible participants. The results of the study showed that the Sign Test yielded a p-value (Exact Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.002 (<0.05), indicating a significant effect of the treatment. Therefore, it can be concluded that the combination of key lime (Citrus aurantifolia) and slaked lime (calcium hydroxide) is effective in reducing stretch marks in postpartum women. It is recommended that this natural combination be used as an alternative treatment for postpartum stretch marks.

Abstract

Background: Bullying among adolescents is a pressing global issue with significant psychosocial consequences. Peer pressure plays a complex role as both a direct and indirect facilitator of bullying behaviour, alongside other factors that warrant further exploration. Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between peer pressure and bullying behaviour among adolescents. Method: A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted with 274 students aged 12–15 years, selected through random sampling. Data were collected using two validated instruments: the Revised Olweus Bullying/Victim Questionnaire (23 items) and the Peer Pressure Questionnaire (25 items). Data were analysed using Spearman’s rank correlation to assess the association between variables. Result: Findings showed that 60.2% of participants exhibited high levels of bullying behaviour, with verbal and non-physical bullying being the most prevalent types. A significant positive correlation was found between peer pressure and bullying behaviour (r = 0.583; p < 0.001), indicating that higher peer pressure is associated with increased bullying among adolescents. Conclusion: Peer pressure plays a crucial role in shaping adolescent bullying behaviour. These findings highlight the importance of peer-based interventions and supportive school environments in preventing bullying.

Abstract

Postpartum depression (PPD) affects many aspects of a mother's life. Understanding the factors that contribute to this condition is crucial, as some factors may play a greater role than others. This study aimed to identify the prevalence of PPD, examine its associated factors, and determine the dominant factors related to the incidence of PPD in Badung Regency, Indonesia. This research employed a cross-sectional design conducted between May and July 2024. It involved 239 mothers who were 2 – 6 weeks postpartum. Participants were selected from seven public health centers in Badung Regency using two-stage cluster sampling. A questionnaire was used to assess several factors, including sociodemographic characteristics, obstetric history, baby characteristics, stressors during the postpartum period, husband’s support, and postpartum depression symptoms. These factors were analyzed using bivariate chi-square analysis and multivariate logistic regression. The prevalence of PPD in this study was 47.3%. Associated factors included maternal age, stressors related to personal needs and fatigue, infant nurturing, body changes and sexuality, and instrumental and emotional husband support. Among these, the most dominant factors were body changes and sexuality, personal needs, and fatigue, which increased the risk of PPD by approximately threefold. The prevalence of PPD in Badung Regency is higher than previously reported in other areas. This highlights the importance of PPD screening and educating husbands about the need to provide both instrumental and emotional support during the postpartum period. We recommend implementing early screening and husband involvement programs.

Abstract

The increasing incidence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) has become more significant among the productive age group. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that more than one million people are diagnosed with STIs every day, making early detection a crucial step. Preventive efforts include improving knowledge and promoting early detection of STI symptoms; however, many individuals still face difficulties in accessing information related to symptoms, prevention, and treatment. Feelings of shame and the perception that seeking care at health facilities is taboo often result in STI cases being identified at a more advanced stage. Evaluation of health promotion media shows that more than 50% are no longer relevant in the digital era. This study aims to help the public better understand information related to STIs. To develop an Android-based mobile application for the early detection of sexually transmitted infections. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) design using the 4D model: Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. The first year involved evaluating existing health promotion media and identifying strategic issues through focus group discussions (FGDs), followed by application design, expert appraisal, and trials involving 30 respondents. The evaluation revealed that most existing health promotion media were no longer relevant in terms of content, format, and timeliness. The “SIMANIS” mobile application was developed with six main menus: definition, types, symptoms, impacts, transmission, prevention, and self-detection, plus a knowledge questionnaire on STIs. Content validity testing (CVI) by three experts confirmed the application’s validity, while the reliability test yielded a Cronbach’s Alpha value of 0.728. The “SIMANIS” mobile application is valid, reliable, and can be used by adolescents as well as healthcare institutions. The dissemination phase is planned for 2026
