Abstract

Research on the level of financial literacy of farmers is needed to measure their ability to manage finances to improve their level of welfare. This study aims to analyse the level of financial literacy of dairy farmers and the factors that influence it and see its relationship with farmers' preferences in facing risks. This research was conducted in Pangalengan District, Bandung Regency using descriptive analysis method, multiple regression analysis, and Pearson correlation test. The number of respondents in this study was 77 farmers spread across three villages in Pangalengan District, Bandung Regency. The results showed that the financial literacy level of the majority of farmers (77%) was in the less literate category, especially in the financial behaviour component. Factors that can affect the financial literacy of farmers are income, age, education level, ownership of other jobs, and distance to financial institutions. While the variables of length of farming and gender do not influence the level of financial literacy of farmers and prove a positive relationship between the level of financial literacy with their preferences in facing risks.

Abstract

The development of a sustainable circular agri-food supply chain for rural producer organizations is essential to address the challenges of food loss, agricultural waste management, and resource efficiency. This study explores the integration of circular economy principles within the vegetable supply chain of rural producer organization, emphasizing the utilization of waste as a resource through technologies. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research analyzes the current state of waste management practices, quantifies losses across production and post-harvest stages, and identifies opportunities for improvement. The findings highlight significant inefficiencies in waste utilization, revealing that daily losses result in financial losses amounting to 4-10% of potential revenue. A sustainable circular supply chain model is employed to analyze and coordinate the interdependencies and decision-making processes among stakeholders, ensuring efficient resource allocation, effective waste management, and the integration of circular economy principles to achieve sustainability outcomes. By aligning production processes with circular economy principles, rural producer organizations can reduce environmental impacts, improve economic resilience, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the agri-food supply chain.

Abstract

Indonesia, a major black tea, exported approximately 89% of black tea between 2018-2022, faces a substantial surplus, highlighting the need for producers to understand domestic consumer behavior amidst evolving tea consumption patterns. This study analyzes the influence of product attributes and the purchasing decisions of tea consumers in Central Java, Indonesia. This study employed a survey method. The study site was selected from the Banyumas District. Data were collected using purposive sampling techniques from 300 respondents and interviews with consumers who consumed black tea in tea bag packaging of original tea variants and/or jasmine tea, and made tea buying decisions. Data were analyzed using a combination of quantitative and structural equation modelling (SEM) with the analysis software AMOS 24. The results show that taste and brand have a significant effect on consumer attitudes; consumer attitudes have a significant effect on consumer purchasing decisions; consumer purchasing decisions have a significant effect on consumer satisfaction; and consumer satisfaction has a significant effect on consumer loyalty. The Ministry of Agriculture wants to reduce the export of raw materials and make the most of extra tea production. They plan to do so by promoting local tea brands. This will help Indonesian tea to become more known both internationally and locally. This will also improve the income of farmers and small businesses by increasing the value of their products.

Abstract

Farmers are the majority of jobs of Indonesian people, including porang farmers in the Surakarta buffer district. The existence of porang farmers has begun to be shaken in recent times due to quite extreme climate change, so it is feared that in addition to affecting the production of porang farmers, it will also have an impact on the food security of porang farmer households in the Surakarta buffer district. This study aimed to determine the food security level of porang farmer households in the three Surakarta buffer districts: Sukoharjo, Wonogiri, and Karanganyar. Food security analysis is a cross between the share of food expenditure and the caloric adequacy percentage, analyzed using the Jonsson and Toole cross-classification method. The analysis showed that based on the value of the share of food expenditure, 88% of porang farmers were in a food-secure condition, and the remaining 12% were in a food-insecure condition. The average portion of porang farmers' food expenditure was 40.36%. The results of the AKE calculation show that porang farmers consume energy of 2,937 kcal/capita /day. Based on Jonsson and Toole's cross-classification, about 76% of porang farmers are in the food secure category, 12% are in the food vulnerable category, and the remaining 12% are in the food less secure category; no farmers are in the food insecure category. This study's findings are crucial as they demonstrate that despite climate variability and fluctuating price changes, porang farmers in the Surakarta buffer district are classified as food-secure.

Abstract

The utilization of livestock manure from goat and sheep farming presents significant opportunities for farmers to increase the value of their production. This study aimed to identify the various uses of manure by-products, assess their economic impact, and examine factors influencing the sale of these by-products. The sample included 53 respondents, selected through convenience sampling from active members of the Yogyakarta Goat and Sheep Farmers Association (PPKDY). These farmers, engaged in both household and smallholder farming systems, had at least one year of experience and participated in interviews. Data were analyzed using a descriptive quantitative approach, with partial budgeting used to assess the economic impact. Additional income was generated through the sale of both fermented and non-fermented compost, with costs covering raw materials, processing, packaging, and labor. Multiple linear regression analysis was conducted to determine factors influencing manure sales.  Results showed that respondents were of productive age (20-64 years), had high education levels, and 5-7 years of farming experience. The most common use of manure was as compost fertilizer and applied to agricultural land, as farmers also grew feed crops and other plants. Economic analysis revealed that non-fermented compost earned IDR 11,050 per sack, while fermented compost earned IDR 14,550 per sack. The study found that factors such as sale type and livestock numbers significantly affected manure sales (P<0.01), with education also influencing sales (P<0.05). This research highlights the importance of recognizing manure as an income source and encourages increased collaboration and technical support through PPKDY.

Abstract

As one of the regions with the potential to become a national food production center, Kediri District in East Java has initiated the implementation of an organic farming system. To ensure the long-term viability of this agricultural system, it is essential to assess its level of sustainability. The objective of this study is to conduct a sustainability analysis to ascertain the status of sustainability and optimization strategies for IPM rice farming in the district. The research was conducted in Kediri District, with samples of Sugihwaras Village and Pandantoyo Village, involving a total of 100 respondents. These respondents were then interviewed to measure the six dimensions and 51 attributes used in the study. The data was analyzed using Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) RAP-IPM, and a prospective analysis was subsequently conducted. The results indicate that the sustainability scores for each dimension are as follows: ecology (83.29), technology (78.21), policy (81.31), and institutional (79.31), which suggest a very sustainable status. In contrast, the social dimension (60.19) is moderately sustainable, while the economic dimension (38.92) is classified as less sustainable. The average value of all these dimensions is 70.2, which can be considered quite sustainable. Within each dimension, there are sensitive attributes that are related to its sustainable status. These attributes are a key factor in the formulation of implementation strategies to encourage food security in Kediri District. The prospective analysis of the key factors indicates that most of these factors are situated in Quadrant II, signifying a high level of influence and dependence. To promote resilience effectively and efficiently in Kediri District, it is essential to prioritize strategies that consider the pivotal factors within Quadrant II.

Abstract

The high demand for beef for consumption activities that is not accompanied by the adequacy of domestic production causes instability in the beef market and has an impact on prices that tend to fluctuate. In response to this, the government implements various policies such as import fulfillment, self-sufficiency and the establishment of beef production centers, but this is also an obstacle in meeting the uneven demand for beef in each region. The purpose of this study is to find out the variability and changes in beef prices as well as how the asymmetry of beef prices at each level of the beef market on the island of Java. Data analysis uses the variance of quantitative statistical coefficients and econometric models of the ECM and Houck approaches. The results show that the variation in beef prices on the island of Java, namely in the provinces of Banten, West Java, Central Java and East Java, is at a low level of variation with significant fluctuating price changes. In addition, there is a price asymmetry relationship between the market level of wholesalers and traditional markets and vice versa in West Java, Central Java and East Java as well as from traditional markets to wholesalers in Banten. This identifies that there is no balance between each level of the beef market in Java, which is allegedly caused by various factors, including commodity characteristics, infrastructure, and local market dynamics. Therefore, better policies are needed to stabilize prices and improve the efficiency of beef distribution.
