Abstract

This research aims to analyze the competitiveness, and the factors influencing competitiveness, and to determine the position of Indonesian coffee exports in the international market in 2001-2022. The coffee product analyzed used HS code 0901. This research employed three calculation methods: Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) to measure comparative advantage, the Error Correction Model (ECM) to identify the factors affecting competitiveness, and the Trade Specialization Index (TSI) to determine the position of Indonesian coffee exports. The RCA value of this study indicated that coffee commodities have a comparative advantage with a value >1. The Trade Specialization Index (TSI) value showed that Indonesian coffee commodities are in the maturation stage, with a value of 0.9 < TSI ≤ 1. The ECM analysis indicated that competitiveness factors, export value, export volume, and GDP have an impact on the competitiveness of Indonesian coffee in the international market.

Abstract

Low mutual trust among suppliers is a significant factor leading to the breakdown of partnerships in the supply chain (Stefani & Sunardi, 2014). This lack of trust can greatly impact the performance and efficiency of the Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB) supply chain. This study aims to assess the level of trust among suppliers in the FFB supply chain in Bengkulu Province. The trust level among FFB suppliers in Bengkulu Province is evaluated based on three dimensions: ability, benevolence, and integrity. These dimensions are measured using a Likert scale to calculate a trust index. The findings indicate that the trust level among suppliers in the FFB supply chain is high (trust index 89.69%). The study identifies certain indicators that could potentially weaken trust, including competency and experience indicators in the ability dimension, empathy and acceptance indicators in the benevolence dimension, and relevance and reliability indicators in the integrity dimension. To address these potential trust-weakening indicators, a collaborative effort involving independent farmers, suppliers, and mills is recommended.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of total production, Farmer Exchange Rate (NTP) and Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) on labor absorption in the smallholder coconut plantation subsector in Riau Province in 2012-2023. In this research, multiple linear regression techniques were used using the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method. The research results show that the simultaneous test (F test) shows that total production, NTP and GRDP together have a significant influence on labor absorption in the coconut plantation subsector in Riau Province in 2012-2023. Meanwhile, the partial regression test (t test) shows that total production has a positive and significant effect on labor absorption, NTP has a positive and significant effect on labor absorption, and GRDP has a negative and insignificant effect on labor absorption. The results of the coefficient of determination (R2) of the independent variable on the dependent variable obtained a value of 0.973238. This means that the contribution of the independent variables (total production, NTP and GRDP) to the dependent variable (demand for employment) is 97.32% and the remaining 2.68% is influenced by other variables outside the regression model in this research.

Abstract

Cayenne pepper is a crop that often experiences price fluctuations. The aim of this research is to determine the factors that influence the demand for cayenne pepper in Malang City. The research was conducted in Malang City using an observation sample of 70 respondents. Analysis was carried out using the multiple linear regression method. The research results show that the price of cayenne pepper in the previous period had an influence on demand for cayenne pepper. Apart from that, there is the influence of other factors such as the price of shallots, the price of red chilies, the number of family members and consumer tastes on the demand for cayenne peppers in Malang City. Seeing the high influence of prices on demand, of course the role of related parties is needed in maintaining the stability of food prices for strategic commodities in Indonesia.

Abstract

Indonesian palm sugar commodities still face challenges such as household-scale production industries, lack of farmers’ knowledge, and quality standard compliance. There is a need to improve the processing industry and quality to meet national and international standards. This study analyzes and evaluates the competitiveness of Indonesian palm sugar in the international market using secondary data from 1998-2022 with quantitative descriptive statistics methods. Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) analysis shows that Indonesian palm sugar was not competitive from 1998 to 2010, with a value of <1, but became competitive from 2011 to 2022 with a value of >1. Error Correction Model (ECM) analysis reveals that factors affecting the competitiveness of palm sugar were export volume and export price, while the exchange rate of Rupiah to US Dollar and Indonesia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita had no impact. The competitive position of Indonesian palm sugar using Export Product Dynamic (EPD) shows an average position of falling star, followed by rising star, retreat, and lost opportunity.

Abstract

Broccoli farming has a high production risk due to climate change, pest attacks, and fluctuations in production input prices. The purpose of this study is to analyze the income and risks of broccoli farming, factors affecting broccoli production, and farmers' risk preferences. This research is useful in understanding the risks of farmers in broccoli farming. The location of the investigation was deliberately determined (purposive method), namely, in Sumberejo Village, Ngablak District, Magelang Regency, Central Java Province, which is a vegetable center area. The sampling was carried out randomly on 60 broccoli farmers. The analytical tools used to measure risk are the values of the coefficients of variation and resistance. Factors that affect production using the Cobb-Douglas production model, and those that affect risk using Ordinary Least Square (OLS) with the De Janvry model approach. The results showed that the coefficients of variation in production and income were 0.76 and 0.88, and the risk aversion coefficient was quite high with an average of 1.125. Factors that affect production are land, seeds, pesticides, chemical fertilizers, and organic fertilizers. Education, institutions, land area, and income influence farmers' behavior toward risk.

Abstract

Porang commodity produced in several district centers in East Java province, has good quality, so it is very good to be developed optimally. However, the supply chain performance that leads to the value chain still needs to be improved to be more efficient. Data analysis methods used in this study include value chain analysis and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). The objectives of this research are: (1) to identify the mapping of the Porang value chain in East Java, and (2) to analyze the level of importance of the Porang value chain actors in East Java. Based on the results of the research, mapping the porang value chain in East Java stated that the actors consisted of porang spore suppliers and saprodi providers, producers were porang farmers, traders there were collectors, and porang processors acted as industrial consumers. There are three main streams in mapping the porang value chain, namely product flow, information flow and financial flow, starting from input suppliers, farmers, traders to processors/consumers. Based on the level of interest of the actors in the AHP hierarchical analysis, it can be seen the elements in decision making on the main activities, supporting activities and stakeholder performance. In the main activity, actors with superior importance were selected which showed that the implementation of product maintenance before resale has a very strong influence on value creators. In the supporting activities selected as the leading stakeholder, which shows that the implementation of general management of the company has a very strong influence on value creators. While the performance activity, which shows that the implementation of product maintenance before resale has an above average performance.

Abstract

The agricultural sector significantly contributes to economic growth at local and national levels, reflecting broader social changes to improve materially and spiritual better living conditions. This research aims to assess income levels and identify constraints in the development of Banggai yam as a local food source. The research was conducted in the Banggai Islands Regency using quantitative descriptive analysis and the Interpretative Structural Modelling (ISM) approach. Respondents were selected using a stratified purposive sampling technique, resulting in 76 interviews, which included 68 farmers, 2 financial institutions, 4 government representatives, and 2 academics from the region. Findings show that Banggai yam farming generates significant financial returns, increasing farmers' income over the course of one growing season, thus categorizing it as a viable farming practice in the Banggai Islands Regency. Six key strategies for developing Banggai yam as a local food source were identified: government support (E7), farmer training and mentoring (E8), uncoordinated marketing (E1), annual Banggai yam cultivation (E5), shifting cultivation practices (E6), and unregulated land use (E14). Effectively addressing these constraints and prioritizing strategies will ultimately drive the goal of increasing incomes and guide the sustainable development of Banggai yam in the Banggai Islands Regency
