Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic and the issue of mental health among adolescents is one of the important issues that need to be responded. However, there have been few studies amongst Indonesian adolescents that have been conducted. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to analyze the contribution of self-concept toward the mental health of Indonesian Adolescents during the Covid-19 pandemic. The method used in this study is the quantitative research method and regression analysis was conducted to test the hypothesis. The population of this study is Indonesian adolescents and the sampling technic used in this study is convenience sampling. The participants included109 adolescents, specifically 20 boys, and 89 girls, with a mean of19.9. They were asked to complete a set of self-report questionnaires, including Personal Self-Concept (PSC) and Mental Health Inventory (MHI-18). The results showed a positive and significant influence of self-concept on adolescent mental health with a variance of41.5%. The finding of this study highlights the importance of promoting a positive self-concept in supporting adolescent mental health, especially during pandemics. The result of this study also alerts educators in universities and government agents the need to prevent and respond adequately to the negative effect of the pandemic on adolescent mental health.

Abstract

We aimed to investigate the somatic distress and psychological symptoms levels of cancer patients, and analyze the influencing factors on somatic distress during COVID-19 pandemic. This cross-sectional study included 216 eligible cancer patients. The Patient Health Questionnaire-15, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Checklist for DSM-5, The Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-21, the Brief Resilience Scale, the Stressful Life Events List due to Pandemic were administered to the participants. The moderate to severe somatic distress rate was % 38 and probable PTSD rate was 20.4%. Depression, anxiety and stress symptoms were 36.1%, 49.1% and 45.4%, respectively, from mild to extremely severe. There were substantial association between somatic symptoms severity and high PTSD, anxiety, depression, and stress symptoms levels. Low education, high anxiety levels, high experience stressful life events, and low psychological resilience predicted high somatic distress. This study demonstrates the high risk of somatic distress, PTSD, depression, anxiety and stress in patients with cancer during the pandemic. In addition, somatic distress may indicate high levels of psychological symptoms, high experience stressful life events, and low psychological resilience. It underscores the need to assess psychological status during the pandemic, especially those with high level somatic symptoms.

Abstract

During the covid-19 pandemic, 12th grade high school students felt more stressed and tired due to a continued isolation. Therefore, academic resilience is needed so that students can face existing academic problems. It was found that self-compassion can foster resilience. This study aims to analyze the relationship between self-compassion using the Indonesian version of the Self-Compassion Scale and Academic Resilience using the Academic Resilience Scale-30. 277 participants from 12th grade high school students who are distance learning took part in this correlational research. Results show that there is a positive correlation between self-compassion and academic resilience. This therefore results in a new finding of how students could be more academically resilient in facing academic burdens during the pandemic. To get a more comprehensive picture, future studies could explore more demographic data, such as whether anyone assists students while distance learning and how stressed students are.

Abstract

The study investigated the relationship between emotional intelligence, occupational stress and productivity of employees in electrical industries. Research questions were answered while null hypotheses formulated were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted a correlational research design and was carried out in North Central States of Nigeria. The population for the study was 301 employees in electrical industries. The entire employees were involved in the study. The instrument for data collection was questionnaire titled Emotional Intelligence, Occupational Stress and Productivity Questionnaire (EIOSPQ). Five experts face- validated the instrument. The internal consistency of the questionnaire items was determined using Cronbach alpha reliability method and coefficients of 0.88 was obtained for Electrical Occupational Stress, 0.94 for Productivity of workers in electrical occupation, 0.85 for Emotional intelligence of employees. The overall reliability coefficient of the questionnaire was 0.96. Out of 301 copies of EIOSPQ administered, 295 copies were completed representing 98.01 percent return rate. Pearson product moment correlation and regression analysis were employed to analyse data for answering research questions and hypotheses. The findings on hypotheses revealed that: EI significantly predicts productivity of employees in electrical industries, EI does not significantly predicts occupational stress of employees in electrical industries, emotional intelligence was a significant moderator of the relationship between occupational stress and productivity of employees in electrical industries, demographic variables were not significantly influenced emotional intelligence and productivity of employees in electrical industries. It was recommended that employees in electrical industries should be sensitized through workshops and seminars on how EI can influence their productivity and occupational stress in their occupations.

Abstract

The study examined the relationship between withdrawal behaviours and administrative effectiveness of heads of academic departments of the universities in Edo State Two research questions were raised and two hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The study adopted the combination of survey method and correlational research design. A sample of 1,100 representing 40 percent of the population was drawn using the multi-stage stratified random sampling technique. The instruments used for the study were Absenteeism of Academic Staff (AASS) and Instrument for Measuring Lateness of Academic Staff (MLASS) and Head of Department Administrative Effectiveness Questionnaire (HODAEQ). Cronbach Alpha reliability was used to determine the reliability of the instruments. Hypotheses 1 and 2 were tested,  using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation Co-efficient. The results of the study showed that: there was a strong, inverse and significant relationship between academic staff absenteeism and administrative effectiveness of the Heads of Department. The study also found that there was a strong, inverse and significant relationship between academic staff, lateness and administrative effectiveness of the heads of department. It was therefore concluded that absenteeism and lateness withdrawal behaviour of academic staff has adverse effect on HOD’s administrative effectiveness. The study consequently recommended among others staff enlightenment on the adverse impact of Academic Staff withdrawal behaviours on Heads of Departments’ administrative effectiveness.

Abstract

In the current Covid-19 transition period, innovations in early childhood learning models are needed that are effectively used. The many models of early childhood learning during this pandemic need to be studied further which are appropriate for implementation. This study aims to empirically verify the early childhood learning model during the COVID-19 pandemic and analyze the factors that influence early childhood learning during the Covid-19 period. The method used in writing this article is a systematic literature review, which is a literature search from national article sources conducted using indexed searches on Google Scholar and Microsoft Academic. This literature review was conducted using the prism method technique. The articles reviewed are the most recent 50 articles from 2020 to 2021, and the results were sorted into 26 articles. All articles are classified by year of publication, type of indexing journal, method, and early childhood learning model. The results of the study are presented as follows. (1) The search results prove an increase in the number of articles published from 2020-2021. (2) The results of the study show that the most widely used learning model in early childhood learning involves the participation and assistance of parents in children's learning at home through learning media created by teachers and distributed through social media. (3) The obstacles that can be identified are: (a) the role of parents in children's learning during the pandemic is still less than optimal, (b) the lack of mastery of technology skills of students and parents during online learning. So it is necessary to develop an early childhood learning model that can be applied in online implementation, able to facilitate collaboration between parents, teachers, and students.

Abstract

Occupational stress is becoming increasingly common in all categories of workers. Due to the overwhelming demands of library customers, librarians are likely to suffer occupational stress as well.  The objective of this study is to assess the occupational stress of urban school librarians in selected Nigerian public secondary schools. A descriptive survey was conducted and the Occupational Stress Scale (OSS) was used to collect data from 75 urban secondary school Librarians in South-East Nigeria. Means, standard deviations, and analysis of variance were used to analyze the results. Findings suggested that male and female secondary school librarians in the sampled urban secondary schools felt similarly about their occupation's level of stress. In addition, urban school librarians with bachelor's degrees reported higher levels of occupational stress. Another finding showed that urban school librarians who are married showed more occupational stress than those who are single, separated/divorced and widowed. Moreover, no significant differences were found between urban secondary school librarians who worked in mixed or single sex schools for occupational stress. In conclusion, occupational stress is present among urban school librarians in Nigerian public secondary schools. It was recommended that stress management interventions should be tailored to assist these school librarians in managing their level of stress.

Abstract

A growing problem among university students is academic burnout, and it has become more prevalent in recent years. With the increasing demand for school mental health services, online counseling interventions are gradually being regarded as a reasonable way to provide assistance to students with regard to burnout reduction. It was the researcher's aim to find out whether an online counseling intervention would be able to reduce academic burnout in a Nigerian undergraduate sample. A total of 80 Nigerian undergraduates were participants of this study. In this study, the participants were randomly assigned to the intervention group (n=40) and to the control group (n=40) by using a simple randomization procedure.  For the collection of data, the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory for Students and the Students School Burnout Inventory were utilised. The researcher applied repeated measures ANOVA to examine within and between groups' mean differences, reported η² to establish treatment effect size, and conducted posthoc analyses where mean differences existed using Holm's approach. The results of the study demonstrate that the online counseling intervention for academic burnout was effective in reducing the level of academic burnout among Nigerian undergraduates. As online counseling can help students reduce academic burnout, this finding opens the door to reach a larger number of burned-out students, such as those who live off-campus or are afraid of social stigma when seeking mental health care. This intervention has the potential to significantly improve student mental health related to burnout in other higher education settings like polytechnics. It is recommended that students should be encouraged to receive psychological supports and care from the university's counseling centre, not just during crises, but as a regular process of mental health support.

Abstract

The education related to the ability in providing social support through PFA is still rarely applied and limited. PFA can provide social support that is needed by the individuals while dealing with the initial stressful situations so they will not experience psychological disorders. In its development, PFA can be applied to a wider context such as in school. Teachers are important figures in providing assistance and giving services to students who have experienced traumatic events. This study is aimed to see the effectiveness of PFA training through synchronous learning on teacher self-efficacy and knowledge. The research method used is one group pre-post design experiment and performed online using Zoom Video Conference. The subjects in this study were middle and high school teachers totaling 37 people (N=37). The data analysis method used is the Wilcoxon matched-paired signed test. The result of this study shows that the subjects experience an increase in self-efficacy after attending PFA training at school. Meanwhile, the level of PFA knowledge in schools for teachers do not increase. PFA online training offers easy access for many people and learning flexibility.

Abstract

Based on the preliminary study that the researcher did, the researcher saw that there were still many children's character values that were not good, such as the difficulty of queuing and social interaction while in the school environment. This study aims to produce educational games to improve the valuesof early childhood characters that are valid, practical, and effective. This study uses the Sugiyono model development method (potential and problems, data collection, product design, design validation, usage trials, product revisions, product trials, design revisions, product revisions and mass production). The resulting development products consist of 2 types, namely manuals on the use of educational games to increase character values and educational game software to improve character values for early childhood. In the initial development process, the developer consults with media experts to get input and suggestions about the developed media. To determine the validity of the product, expert validation tests of media experts, material expert validation and field expert validation tests (expert lecturers) were carried out. The instrument of this research is a questionnaire which is used to determine the validity of the product. The results of the assessment were analyzed using a descriptive percentage analysis technique. Informants in this study were teachers and children. Data collection techniques used consisted of questionnaires, and documentation. The data analysis technique uses validity analysis, practicality analysis and effectiveness analysis.
