Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of educational game tools in developing fine motor skills among early childhood students at Kemala Bhayangkari 80 Sampang Kindergarten. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, it involved 15 children (ages 4-6), five teachers, and three parents over a six-month period through observations, interviews, and document analysis. Findings show that tools like plasticine, building blocks, puzzles, finger painting, picture books, and beading each uniquely support fine motor skills such as finger strength, coordination, and creative control. An average improvement of 40-45 points per tool type was observed. This study highlights the importance of a structured educational game-based curriculum, ongoing teacher training, and school-family collaboration to maximize tool efficacy. Future research is recommended to explore the long-term impact of educational game tools on children’s academic performance and to assess the potential of technology-enhanced tools for fine motor skill development.

Abstract

Generation Alpha (Gen-A), who have grown up in the digital era, are more interested in interactive and visual learning. However, traditional methods such as worksheets are considered monotonous, reducing motivation and engagement in learning. This study aims to implement Augmented Reality (AR) based Experimental Learning as an innovative solution to overcome the boredom of Gen-A children with conventional worksheets in Early Childhood Education (ECE). The research gap lies in the lack of exploration of AR in ECE, particularly in Indonesia, as well as the limited studies on the learning needs of early childhood. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with observation, interviews, and document analysis at RA Nurul Ulum. The results show that conventional worksheets are boring and decrease children's learning motivation. These findings emphasize the importance of AR-based and experiential learning innovations that are adaptive to the characteristics of Gen-A, creating a more engaging and effective learning environment.

Abstract

Gross motor development is a critical aspect of early childhood education, enabling children to build coordination, balance, and body strength. This study aimed to improve children’s gross motor skills through the implementation of clogs (bakiak) traditional games in Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal III Paranga Kindergarten, Gowa Regency. Using classroom action research conducted in two cycles, the study involved nine boys aged 5–6 years as participants. Data were collected through observation and performance assessments and analyzed descriptively. The results showed a significant improvement in gross motor skills, with the percentage of children achieving the expected developmental level increasing from 27.08% in the pre-cycle to 62.5% in cycle I, and 93.05% in cycle II. These findings indicate that clogs traditional games provide effective, culturally relevant, and engaging activities for enhancing young children’s gross motor development. The study contributes practical insights for integrating local traditional games into early childhood education settings.

Abstract

Despite growing global attention to inclusive education, limited research has explored its implementation within Islamic-based early childhood contexts in Indonesia. This study investigates how inclusive education is understood and practiced by teachers in early childhood education (PAUD) ‘Aisyiyah, a long-standing Islamic early childhood provider. Using qualitative methods—observations and interviews during teacher training across five provinces—the study reveals a paradigmatic shift among educators from deficit-based to strengths-based views of diversity. Practically, teachers adopted differentiated instruction, multimodal strategies, and assistive technologies. Religious values rooted in compassion and social justice underpin these inclusive practices. However, challenges such as limited resources and inconsistent policy implementation remain. The study calls for stronger multi-stakeholder collaboration, policy reinforcement, and investment in teacher capacity development to support inclusive ECE aligned with Indonesia’s 2045 vision.

Abstract

Early childhood literacy is a fundamental skill in developing language skills, critical thinking, communication, and understanding context. However, PISA results indicate that early childhood literacy in Indonesia remains low, while the literature synthesis on how literacy is implemented in contextual and sustainable early childhood education (PAUD) settings is very limited. Therefore, this study aims to analyze research trends in the application of literacy in the PAUD environment through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) study using a modified SLR protocol. The main database used by Google Scholar involves 21 articles published between 2017 and 2025, and analyzed thematically. The findings show that implemented literacy in early childhood education of Indonesia includes reading, writing, and storytelling skills, it implies that the concept of literacy need to be expanded. Another finding is that parents play a role in building a culture of literacy. This study recommends for a broad mastery of literacy skills to create more appropriate literacy learning in Indonesian context. It also encourages teachers to develop children's literacy skill through more various attractive activities.

Abstract

Parents play a crucial role for children learning success, especially for early childhood. Their role is particularly important for early childhood with special needs, including ADHD and dyslexia. Therefore, this study aims to explore the role of parents in supporting early childhood with ADHD and dyslexia to overcome their learning difficulties. The study used a qualitative approach, involving two children: an ADHD child and a dyslexia child, as well as their parents and therapists as the main participants. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews and observation during therapy sessions at Rumah Terapi Liliput Samarinda and Anisa Therapy Center Samarinda. The results showed that the role of parents includes five important aspects: recognition support, psychological support, practical support, knowledge support, and community support. Children showed progress, such as increased vocabulary, reading and writing skills, focus improvement, and motor skills. However, challenges remain occur, particularly from insufficient inclusive school environment and the limited public understanding of ADHD and dyslexia. Thus, the pro-active parents and their understanding of their roles is an important key in support their children to overcome their learning barriers and promote optimal development.

Abstract

Many parents still assume that a child's intelligence is limited to academic aspects, causing non-academic potential to often be overlooked. A preliminary study showed that two out of five parents were unaware of their child's talents and interests, indicating a gap in parental support. Therefore, this research aims to identify the roles of parents in developing the talents and interests of 5-to-6-year-old children in Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method with five parent respondents whose children have achievements corresponding to their talents. Data were collected through interviews and observations, and then analyzed thematically. The main findings show that parents play crucial roles encompassing five forms: introducing, managing, facilitating, supporting, and directing the child. However, this process faced obstacles such as limited practice time, insufficient supervision from working parents, and the child's unpredictable moods. These findings enrich the discourse on parental involvement in early childhood education by emphasizing the importance of parental facilitation in developing children's talents and interests.
