Abstract

Binge-watching is a behavior that is often carried out by many people, especially when the COVID-19 pandemic hit with limited activities; individuals are also looking for other alternatives, one of which is watching. Along with the increase in Video-On-Demand on streaming applications, Netflix and YouTube make it easier for users to watch wherever and whenever. Unfortunately, this pandemic habit affects the way individuals organize and control themselves in the post-pandemic period, especially in early adulthood, because they are the generation that has easy access to watching using various media technologies. The method used in this research is quantitative, with a non-probability sampling technique using voluntary sampling. The analysis used is simple regression analysis to determine the effect of the independent variables on the dependent variable. This study (N = 270) shows an influence between binge-watching and self-control, with 17.7% motivated by seeking pleasure, filling free time, spending time together, adding insight, and escaping reality. Conversely, this behavior also causes procrastination, sleep disturbance, constant desire to eat, and addiction to watching movies.

Abstract

The aims of this study are 1) the level of analysis of cultural counselors' abilities in guidance and counseling practices and 2) the analysis of factors influencing the involvement of cultural counselors in guidance and counseling practices. This research method is a survey method. The targets in this study were the MGBK SMA Sleman Yogyakarta District, which consisted of 64 counseling teachers. The research procedures carried out in this study were 1) sample identification, 2) questionnaire development, 3) research implementation, 4) data collection, 5) data analysis, and 6) interpretation and conclusion. The data collection instrument used a cultural distribution questionnaire. Data analysis in this study is 1) descriptive analysis, 2) inferential analysis, 3) regression analysis. The results of this study show that the F-value is 4.56 with a p-value of 0.005. Because the p-value is less than 0.05, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the components of cultural ability measured in this study. In addition, it is known that the three components of cultural ability significantly influence the effectiveness of guidance and counseling practices. Cultural awareness had the most significant influence (β = 0.29, p = 0.011), followed by cultural skills (β = 0.26, p = 0.019) and cultural knowledge (β = 0.23, p = 0.022). Cultural attitudes have no significant effect (β = 0.20, p = 0.065). Counselors' cultural skills in guidance and counseling practice at MGBK SMA Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta, are critical to understanding and responding to students' needs in the local cultural context. The main aspects of the counselor's cultural skills are understanding local culture, sensitivity to local context, use of language and culturally relevant terms, collaboration with cultural stakeholders, and self-development.

Abstract

Adolescence is a phase where a person experiences emotional changes in forming a more mature and independent person. This research explores the differences and similarities between the two objects studied. The research method uses quantitative methods with a comparative description model. The research population was 168 people. The research sample was a total sample of 120 people. The results of processing the research data using the difference test analysis formula (T-Test) showed that the t-test value with calculated t was -0.993 with a significance of 0.323. Therefore, the importance of 0.323>0.05 shows that the emotional intelligence of female and male students is in the same category: medium. So, it can be concluded that there is no difference between the emotional intelligence of female and male students at Wijaya Kusuma High School, East Jakarta.

Abstract

In this study, we explain the effect of aromatherapy on stress of students who are working on thesis. This experimental research using a pretest and posttest control group design. This study was implemented in 15 student who randomly allocated into 2 groups through a random assignment process. Prior to the experiment, the participants were given stress induction. The control group was given treatment using a mixture of toner and water with a ratio of 1:4 which was inhaled using a diffuser. The experimental group received treatment using lavender essential oil. In this study, hypothesis testing was conducted using independent samples t-test and paired samples t-test. Based on the results of the hypothesis test that is not significant (p = 0.858), this shows that there is no difference between the results of the pretest and post-test. In this study, the experimental group (mean = -13.500) and the control group (mean = -14.571) experienced a decrease. The decrease that occurred in the control group was influenced by participants beliefs regarding the aromatherapy used, which could lead to a placebo effect or "contextual healing" that build certain trust in participants.
