Abstract

Bullying is a serious problem in educational settings that negatively affects students’ psychological and social well-being. Anti-bullying behavior is influenced by various psychological and social factors, including empathy, school climate, and peer support. This study aimed to analyze the effects of empathy, school climate, and peer support on anti-bullying behavior among public senior high school students in Jeneponto Regency. This study employed a quantitative approach using multiple linear regression analysis. The sample consisted of 109 students selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected using Likert-scale questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS. The results showed that empathy had a positive and significant effect on anti-bullying behavior (B = 0.166; t = 2.235; p = 0.028), school climate also had a positive and significant effect (B = 0.206; t = 2.349; p = 0.021), and peer support had a positive and significant effect and was identified as the most dominant predictor (B = 0.641; t = 7.571; p < 0.001). Simultaneously, empathy, school climate, and peer support significantly influenced anti-bullying behavior (F = 176.922; p < 0.001), with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.835, indicating that these variables explained 83.5% of the variance in students’ anti-bullying behavior. These findings indicate that anti-bullying behavior is influenced by the interaction between individual psychological factors and social environmental factors. This study highlights the importance of strengthening empathy, fostering a positive school climate, and enhancing peer support in promoting anti-bullying behavior among students.

Abstract

Career adaptability is a crucial psychosocial resource that enables students to cope with career developmental tasks, educational transitions, and unpredictable challenges. Peer support is considered an important social factor that can enhance students’ self-efficacy, which in turn contributes to career adaptability. This study aims to examine the effect pf peer support on career adaptability through self-efficacy among senior high school students in Semarang. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design involving 227 students selected using proportional random sampling. Data were collected using the Peer Support Scale, General Self-Efficacy Scale, and Career Adapt-Abilities Scale-Short Form. Mediation analysis was conducted using a regression-based approach. The results showed that peer support had a significant positive effect on career adaptability  (β = 0.214; p < 0.001). Self-efficacy also significantly predicted career adaptability (β = 0.050; p < 0.05) and partially mediated the relationship between peer support and career adaptability (indirect effect = 0.010; p < 0.001). These findings provide empirical support for the role of self-efficacy as a psychological mechanism linking social support and career adaptability. Practically, the results highlight the importance of peer-based interventions and self-efficacy enhancement within school guidance and counseling programs to support students’ career development.

Abstract

Academic stress is a psychological condition that occurs when students perceive academic demands as exceeding their personal capacity to cope. This problem is commonly experienced by final-year students who are writing undergraduate theses, as they face pressure related to research completion, supervision, academic expectations, time management, and future uncertainty. This study aimed to describe the implementation of group counseling using a Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) approach to address academic stress among students writing their theses. A descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. The counseling program was conducted from September 12 to July 24, 2024, involving six final-semester students who participated in four structured counseling sessions. Data were collected through observation, counseling records, interviews, and documentation of participants’ experiences during the thesis-writing process. The findings showed that students experienced academic stress in physical, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral forms, including fatigue, anxiety, self-blame, lack of confidence, procrastination, and difficulty initiating thesis-related tasks. The CBT-based group counseling process helped students identify irrational thoughts, maladaptive beliefs, and negative emotional responses related to thesis completion. Through self-management techniques, including self-monitoring, stimulus control, and self-reinforcement, students were encouraged to regulate their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors more adaptively. The findings indicate that CBT-based group counseling can support students in understanding the sources of academic stress, restructuring negative thoughts, and developing more effective coping strategies. This study provides practical implications for university counseling services and study programs in designing structured psychosocial support for final-year students to reduce academic stress and improve thesis completion readiness.

Abstract

University students are among the most vulnerable to consumptive behavior, desire-driven purchasing amplified by the constant accessibility and promotions of e-commerce platforms. Emotional intelligence and self-regulation are two psychological constructs considered crucial for inhibiting impulsive spending and directing rational consumption decisions.  This study aimed to examine the simultaneous and partial influence of self-regulation and emotional intelligence on consumptive behavior among active university students in Lampung Province. A quantitative correlational design was employed with 222 active university students recruited through purposive sampling, consisting of students aged 18–25 years who had made at least three non-essential purchases in the past month. Data were collected using three validated psychology scales: the Consumptive Behavior Scale (α = .923), the Self-Regulation Scale (α = .920), and the Emotional Intelligence Scale (α = .923). Data analysis was performed using Pearson correlation and multiple regression in JASP 0.95.4. The results of the study indicate that self-regulation and emotional intelligence are both negatively correlated with consumptive behavior (R = 0.519), with a significance level of p < 0.001, and together account for 26.9% of the variance. These findings contribute to consumer psychology literature by demonstrating that self-regulation is the dominant psychological inhibitor of consumptive behavior, with practical implications for psychoeducational programs aimed at promoting healthier financial behavior among university students.

Abstract

University students are widely regarded as agents of change with highly critical attitudes. However, they are often vulnerable to exposure to radical ideologies. The phenomenon of radicalism in campus environments is a complex issue that can be influenced by how individuals or groups perceive social hierarchies and their participation in social movements. This study aims to examine the effect of Social Dominance Orientation (SDO) on students' tendency toward radicalism, with activism serving as a mediating variable. The study employed a quantitative approach involving 246 student participants from various higher education institutions, including those both affiliated and unaffiliated with student organizations. Mediation analysis was conducted to test the proposed model. The results indicate that SDO has a significant direct effect on radical intentions (p < .001). Furthermore, SDO significantly influences radical intentions indirectly through activism as a mediator (p = .002). These findings demonstrate that SDO can foster students' radical intentions both directly and indirectly through their involvement in activism. This study contributes to the existing literature by elucidating how SDO influences students' radical tendencies through their engagement in activism.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of self-control on cyberslacking behavior among Generation Z university students. The research is grounded in the phenomenon of increasing internet use in academic settings, which on the one hand supports the learning process, but on the other hand has the potential to encourage non-academic internet use during lectures. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design, using purposive sampling involving 130 Generation Z students who actively use the internet for academic activities. Data were collected using a self-control scale based on Averill’s aspects and a cyberslacking scale based on the aspects proposed by Albar and Ariyanto. Data analysis was conducted using simple linear regression. The results indicated a significant negative effect of self-control on cyberslacking behavior (R = 0.686; p < 0.05), with a contribution of 47.1%. The higher the level of self-control possessed by students, the lower their tendency to engage in cyberslacking behavior, and vice versa. These findings reinforce the view that self-control plays an important role in regulating maladaptive internet use during the learning process. This study is expected to provide practical implications for students and educational institutions in efforts to enhance self-control in order to minimize cyberslacking behavior in academic environments.

Abstract

Abstract

One technological development whose use continues to increase is the smartphone. Smartphones offer many features and their use has various impacts that are popular among various groups, including students. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the intensity of smartphone use and the dimensions of mental health, emotional well-being, social well-being, and psychological well-being. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design. This study involved 59 respondents, and data was collected by sending a Google Form link via WhatsApp. Measurements were taken using a smartphone usage intensity scale developed by the researcher based on Ellison, N. B. et al.'s (2007) Intensity of Facebook theory and a mental health scale, namely the Mental Health Continuum – Short Form (MHC-SF) by Keyes (2002), which has been adapted into Indonesian. The results of the study found that there was no significant relationship between smartphone usage intensity and the mental health dimensions of emotional well-being and social well-being. However, there was one dimension of psychological well-being in the environmental mastery component that correlated with smartphone usage intensity, with a correlation value of 0.267 and sig. (p < 0.05).

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) and consumptive behavior among students of UKSW. The background of this research is based on the increasing use of social media and online shopping platforms, which encourages student consumption behavior through social pressure and the desire to follow trends. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design and a purposive sampling technique involving 125 UKSW students aged 18–25 years. Data were collected using a FoMO scale based on the theory of Przybylski et al. and a consumptive behavior scale based on the theory of Lina and Rosyid. Data analysis using Spearman correlation revealed a significant positive relationship between FoMO and consumptive behavior (r = 0.699; p < 0.05). Higher levels of FoMO were associated with higher levels of consumptive behavior among students. These findings indicate that FoMO plays an important psychological role in shaping student consumptive behavior in the digital era.

Abstract

Emotion regulation is an essential ability that students need to recognize, manage, and appropriately express their emotions in daily life. Low understanding of emotion regulation may lead to aggressive behavior, poor self-control, and difficulties in social interaction and learning processes. Therefore, effective group guidance services that align with adolescent developmental characteristics are needed. This study aims to examine the effect of group guidance using the Emotional Quest board game technique on improving students’ understanding of emotion regulation among eighth-grade students of the Special Program 2 at MTs Negeri 1 Magelang. This study employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design using a one group pretest–posttest design. The research subjects were selected through purposive sampling, consisting of six students who demonstrated low levels of emotion regulation understanding based on the pretest results. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was conducted using the paired sample t-test with the assistance of SPSS version 25. The results showed a significance value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores of students’ emotion regulation understanding. Descriptively, there was a 16.68% increase after the implementation of group guidance using the Emotional Quest board game technique. These findings indicate that the intervention has a significant effect on improving students’ understanding of emotion regulation. This study provides practical implications for school counseling services in designing innovative, interactive interventions that meet students’ emotional developmental needs.
