Abstract

The main problem in this research is the widespread violence and sexual harassment against students in Indonesian universities. The aim of this research is to analyze efforts to prevent sexual violence against students through the intervention of lecturers at universities in Indonesia. This research uses mixed research methods. Research informants, qualitative research using purposive sampling amounted to 30 people, while determining the research sample using random sampling techniques totaling 300 respondents. The data collection techniques used were questionnaires, observation, interviews and documentation. Qualitative data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data display and drawing conclusions, while quantitative data analysis used questionnaire verification, tabulation of questionnaire data and percentage of questionnaire data. The validity of qualitative data uses source triangulation and method triangulation, while quantitative data uses reliability tests (accuracy) and validation tests (correctness). The results of the research show that lecturer actor intervention was carried out by discussing human rights issues, power relations, disability perspectives, anti-gender-based violence, socializing the task force for preventing and dealing with sexual violence and implementing healthy relationships with students. Lecturer actor intervention can prevent sexual violence against students.

Abstract

The educational compass deliberately directs students to meet the demands of the world of work. Local content as the basis for character learning is increasingly marginalized and almost difficult to find in schools. In fact, the character aspect is very determining in preparing competitive educational outcomes, including the demands of the world of work. Based on this concern, this article aims to reaffirm the importance of character education in the world of education, especially learning the value of  macca and lempu (Smart and Honest) in the Bugis community. This article is classified as a qualitative type with a library study method. Based on literature searches, it is confirmed that character education through learning local wisdom, the values of macca and lempu in Bugis society, is very important. Schools as educational institutions are socialization agents that are most likely to teach local wisdom systematically and structured to children amidst the penetration of foreign culture. Therefore, the educational curriculum through local wisdom lessons not only needs to be maintained, but also needs to be strengthened by placing it as the fulcrum for building the future character of the nation's children. Character strengthening strategies can be carried out through learning, appreciation, strengthening and habituation. The values of macca (intelligent) and lempu (honest) work together to form a character who is not only intellectually intelligent but also has integrity and honesty. In conclusion, character education is an inseparable part of preparing students to face global challenges, including the needs of the world of work.

Abstract

The existence of violations of personal data remains a legal issue at present. The protection of personal data is of utmost importance, serving not only as a safeguard but also as the foundation for comprehensive regulations concerning personal data. This research aims to compare regulations on personal data protection between Indonesia and Thailand, with a particular emphasis on human rights aspects. The research methodology used is normative legal research. The findings of this study reveal that both Indonesia and Thailand recognize that personal data protection is an integral part of human rights. This acknowledgment is reflected in their respective constitutions and various applicable laws. Indonesia recently enacted specific legislation on personal data protection in 2022, but its implementation still faces various challenges. The results of this research indicate that while both countries recognize the significance of personal data protection as a component of human rights, there are significant differences in their approaches and implementations between Indonesia and Thailand.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the problem of rampant cases of bullying that occur in schools. Therefore, this study aims to describe the experiences of students related to bullying behavior at school and future efforts to prevent and overcome bullying behavior. This research uses a qualitative design with descriptive methods. The study was conducted in SMA / SMK Dumai City by involving school students and teachers in June-August 2023. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. Data analysis techniques use the Miles and Huberman model, consisting of data collection, verification and reduction, and conclusion drawing. The triangulation technique uses data source triangulation. The results showed that (1) the bullying experience experienced by students generally occurred verbally. Their attitudes in responding to bullying are also different; some are ignorant and ignore the bullying received, sad and keep it to themselves, but some report to parents and BK (counseling guidance) teachers at school; (2) Efforts to prevent bullying behavior at school are carried out in the form of appeals, socialization, infiltration in subjects through planting about manners and ethics in getting along; (3) As for handling efforts if bullying occurs at school, it will be processed first by the subject teacher or vice-grade. Furthermore, coaching is carried out by the school's counseling teacher or deputy student affairs. The understanding of bullying behavior is quite good in students, which is marked by their ability to identify bullying behavior based on experience and realize that bullying behavior is an act of violation of human rights (HAM). Still, the school needs to maximize the action of preventing and handling bullying behavior. Therefore, synergy is needed between students and schools to minimize bullying behavior in schools.

Abstract

The Tempe Lake area is faced with flooding problems that routinely cause losses and disrupt the survival of households. This research was conducted in Tempe sub-district, located in Wajo district, South Sulawesi, presenting an important segment of the wider Tempe Lake region with using a case study approach, the research focused on households in the Lake Tempe community. This study examines the resilience of households inundated by flooding, focusing on income stability, settlement sustainability, food security, disease prevention, and disaster management patterns. The results revealed that the people of Tempe Lake have an extraordinary ability to harmonise tradition and innovation, allowing them to survive and thrive. The cleverness of the community is evident in the raising of the floor of houses to adjust to the ever-changing water levels, making footbridges for access to fellow residents and to public spaces, using sampan boats as a means of water transport, facilitating mobility to farms and public spaces, and alternative businesses, with the support of the local government and other institutions that sustain the lives of flood-affected communities. Remarkably, despite the constant flooding, people still choose to stay because they are driven by the close bonds of their community and the many income opportunities derived from rice farming, capture fisheries, and various job prospects in the vibrant city centre of Sengkang which makes the existence of Tempe Lake beautiful. Thus, the pattern of community adaptation is a knowledge that can be used as a reference for disaster management agencies in formulating a comprehensive work plan
