Abstract

This study examines the application of the positivistic paradigm in epistemological analysis of fern extract utilization as an alternative parasite control method in vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei). Through literature review and epistemological analysis, this research explores how the positivistic approach shapes understanding and validation of traditional knowledge about fern's antiparasitic properties in modern aquaculture science. The positivistic paradigm emphasizes empirical verification, measurable variables, and scientific objectivity in evaluating the effectiveness of fern extracts against shrimp parasites. Previous studies demonstrate that various fern species contain bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, and saponins that exhibit antiparasitic activity. The epistemological analysis reveals that the positivistic approach facilitates the transformation of traditional ecological knowledge into scientifically validated aquaculture practices through controlled experiments, statistical analysis, and replicable methodologies. However, this paradigm also presents limitations in capturing the holistic understanding of traditional knowledge systems. The integration of positivistic methods with indigenous knowledge systems offers promising pathways for developing sustainable and effective parasite management strategies in vannamei shrimp aquaculture.

Abstract

Fish lemuru is one of a fish that is often used as raw materials for sardines. One factor that is important to the packaging of sardines. Sardines in PT.Sumber Mutiara Samudra use two packs primary and secondary packaging and packaging. In canned often experienced disability as leaky, dent, double seam, bulges, blisters or scratch and rust. Hence the need of quality control the packaging in order to maintain the quality and safety. This research with the use of data in the descriptive observation, interview, and active participation. The result showed that disability can often happens in PT.Sumber Mutiara Samudra is the source of the leak, dent, double seam, and scratch. Disability is caused by the human factor, material, machine, and raw materials. The experience will be reject that disability is not marketable products.

Abstract

Prigi waters belongs to the Republic of Indonesia's fisheries management area (FMA 573), which includes the South Indian Ocean of the island of Java to Nusa Tenggara. The species of large pelagic fish occurring in Indonesian waters include tuna comprising: madidihang (Thnunnus albacares), bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus), albacore (Thunnus alalunga), bluefin tuna (Thunnus maccoyii), long tailed tuna (Thunnus mackerel). The small species of tuna include Skipjack tuna (K. Pelamis), Euthynnus affinis and Auxis thazard caught by purse seine, gillnet, troll line and payang fishing gear. Research purposes were to estimate value of maximum sustainable yield (MSY), total allowable catch (TAC), maximum economic yield (MEY), and open access (OA), to suspect rate and status utilization of Skipjack tuna (K. pelamis). Data analysis in this research was convertion of fishing gear, surplus production model by Schaefer, Fox, and Gordon-Schaefer model. The results of the conversion analysis of fishing gears are determined using a standard fishing gear, which is troll line as fishing gear standard. Result showed that sustainable potential obtained catch and effort of Skipjack tuna (K. pelamis) in MSY condition around 810 ton/year and 2,020 trip/year, and in TAC condition 648 ton/year and 1,616 trip per year, while in bioeconmic analysis in MEY condition was 680 ton/year and 1211 trip/year so that a profit Rp. 4,136,008,186, and in OA condition around 778 ton/year and 2,423 trip/year where the profit obtained Rp. 0. Utilization rate of Skipjack tuna (K. pelamis) was 106% so that the status of the stocks categories was Over Exploited

Abstract

Vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) aquaculture is a leading sector in the coastal area of Situbondo Regency, contributing significantly to the local economy but posing environmental challenges. This study aims to develop a sustainable environmental management model for vannamei shrimp ponds based on empirical data and literature review. A descriptive–qualitative approach was used by synthesizing secondary data from DKP Situbondo, SBPS, and previous studies on water quality, socio-economics, and institutional governance. Results show that pond waste load has approached the environmental carrying capacity (ratio 0.78), with average ammonia concentration of 0.33 mg/L in intensive systems. About 65% of shrimp farmers are small-scale with limited access to capital and technology. Institutional strengthening, cross-sectoral coordination, and eco-friendly innovations such as biofloc, water recirculation, and phytoremediation are essential. The proposed model emphasizes multi-stakeholder collaboration, ecosystem integration, and technological innovation to balance pond productivity with coastal environmental sustainability in Situbondo. Abstract

Abstract

This study analyzes the socioeconomic conditions and formulates poverty alleviation strategies for fishermen communities in Bojo Neighborhood, Mallawa Village, Mallusetasi District, Barru Regency. Employing a descriptive-analytic qualitative approach, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and questionnaires administered to 38 fishing household heads during July–August 2025. Results indicate that most respondents are in the productive age group (31–40 years: 42%), possess elementary education (50%), and earn monthly incomes of IDR 1,000,000–2,500,000 (68%), substantially below the regional minimum wage. Additionally, 87% lack alternative income sources and 95% have never received capital assistance; 97% prioritize modern fishing gear as the most needed support. These findings reflect multidimensional poverty economic, institutional, and human capital which requires integrated interventions. Recommended strategies include strengthening institutions and access to finance, improving infrastructure and fishing technology, enhancing human resource capacity through training, and implementing sustainable marine resource management. Proper application of these measures is expected to increase productivity, income, and economic resilience of coastal fishing communities.
