Abstract

The wide spread of Covid-19 virus in Indonesia enforced the temporary closure of education process followed by the remote learning regulation for all levels of education. The aim of the study was to evaluate the process of online and face to face learning by using the evaluation stage from Edward A. Schuman through a qualitative approach. The data were collected by conducting observation, documentation, and interview of four Physical Education, Sport, and Health teachers, students grade 4-6, class teachers, and parents. The results of the study showed that (1) the purpose was to prevent the spread of Covid-19 virus and to provide a maximum education service. (2) The problems faced in the face to face learning included the lack of tools, time constraint, the lack of practice, the unreachable goals, and the lack of supervision. Meanwhile, the problems faced in the online learning included the lack of media, the lack of signal, no practice was conducted, and the teachers did not use the method. (3) The activities in a face to face learning included visiting students’ houses, while the activities in online learning included using a smartphone and social media. (4) The changes included accessing a wide material, understanding IT, lack of motivation, lack of enthusiasm, the decrease in understanding, and the high use of lecturing method. (5) The changes occurred as the result of the online and face to face learning processes. The results conclude that, based on the problems faced and negative changes perceived by students and teachers, the online and face to face learning are less effective to be conducted for a long period of time. The implication of this study was for the betterment of the instructional process and educational policy.

Abstract

Concerns to children with disabilities in terms of their needs for moving and level of physical activity have not been supported by a teacher supply system that is appropriate for their field of study, namely adaptive physical education teachers. This study is aimed at portraying teachers’ profiles of Adaptive Physical Education in special schools in Indonesia. The data collection was carried out by means of questionnaires and articulated with the descriptive approach. The result of the study reveals that the number of specialist teachers with physical education backgrounds is still meager, which is only around 38 percent, compared to those who graduated from Special Education Program, which more than 60.5 percent. The majority of the teachers have never been given a chance to improve their PE teaching competency in the form of training (86,4 percent). It is recommended that there should be an openness from those working in special schools and the Ministry of Education and Culture of the urgent need for this adaptive physical education teacher.  The statement will encourage the evolve of national urgency and drive all the stakeholders to respond to it institutionally, for instance by opening the program for adaptive physical education or at least to pave the way with initially offering concentration for this adaptive PE under the generic PE program.

Abstract

Stunting has become a major problem in developing countries. The government has formulated various strategies to decrease the stunting prevalence in Indonesia. However, the number of programs to be implemented on the school aged children is scarce. Stunting in the school age can affect the productivity, motor development, and vulnerability from communicable diseases. The purpose of this study was to identify journals related to the nutrition education in preventing stunting in elementary schools. The study was a systematic review about nutrition education to prevent stunting in elementary school. There were 5 articles analyzed from the result of Google Scholar search, published from 2018 to 2020. The review focused on the type of intervention, goal, and effectiveness of the intervention. The result of the study showed that nutrition education could improve a short term knowledge. However, it had not been able to change the behavior and practice of healthy dietary habit. Nutrition education given to the teachers could improve their skills in assessing student nutritional status, thus an early detection can be administered well. A more comprehensive intervention, besides nutrition education, in preventing stunting in elementary school is needed.
