Abstract

The Aur Serumpun farmer group is one of the growing farmer groups with their corn farming business. This farmer group is in Simpang Alahan Mati District, Kab. Pasaman, West Sumatra Province. So far, farmers only sell corn that has been dried directly. The processing of corn is a basic need for members of farmer groups in order to have product diversification which can ultimately increase the economy of these farmers. In the community service activities that were carried out previously (in 2019), processed products from corn were introduced, namely tortilla chips. In the 2020-2022 activities, business development will be carried out from Aur Serumpun farmer groups in accordance with the policy directions set by the members of the farmer groups themselves. Therefore, a discussion group forum was held and the signing of a cooperation agreement regarding the study of the prospects for producing tortilla chips which would be carried out by the aur allied farmer groups. The development of food product production of trotilla chips is an independent initiative from farmer groups that can collaborate with academics in the Department of Agricultural Product Technology, Andalas University. It was agreed from the discussion group forum that the head of the farmer group would conduct a study and socialize to other members of the farmer group regarding alternative product diversification of the commonly produced corn commodity. Further evaluation of the prospects for the implementation of the tortilla chips production process will be carried out next year.

Abstract

Nagari Sungai Abang is one of the areas in Lubuk Alung District, one of the rice production centers in Padang Pariaman Regency. One farming group that intensively cultivates rice is the Farming Business group. The problem with the farmer groups is their ignorance of the benefits of straw as a source of organic matter in the soil. The composting process is long, so farmers always burn rice straw after harvest in preparation for planting the following season. If the burning of straw is carried out continuously, it is feared that nutrients will be deficient in the soil. This activity aims to empower Farming Business groups in Nagari Sungai Abang, Lubuk Alung District, to utilize Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) as a bio activator in making straw compost as organic fertilizer and an alternative to addressing the problem of straw waste in Nagari Sungai Abang, Lubuk Alung. This activity has been carried out in the Farming Group of Farmers in Sungai Abang Dalam Nagari Sungai Abang, Lubuk Alung District, Padang Pariaman Regency. The method used is outreach, counseling, and training to demonstrate making PGPR suspension and compost from straw. From the activities that have been carried out, ready-to-use PGPR is obtained as a bio activator reproduced in coconut water media and used as a bio activator to speed up the composting process. The conclusion of this activity is increasing farmers' understanding of the benefits of straw as a raw material for compost and the use of PGPR as a bioactivator in making straw compost.

Abstract

One of the efforts to break the chain of transmission of Covid-19 is to maintain cleanliness using an antiseptic to wash hands and body parts, as well as disinfectants that are sprayed or rubbed on various inanimate objects that may be exposed to the virus. However, there are still many people who are mistaken about using antiseptics and disinfectants, such as using antiseptics to clean items and the phenomenon of massive spraying of disinfectants in various places, even directly on humans. Apart from that, the lack of skills in making simple disinfectant fluids independently is also one of the triggering factors for the low level of concern in protecting the surrounding environment. The purpose of this activity is to educate the public about the correct use of antiseptics and disinfectants and to be able to utilize carbolic acid and liquid bleach to become simple disinfectants. This activity was carried out in Balai Baru Village, Kuranji District, Padang City. The method used in this activity is the presentation of the principles of the proper use of disinfectants and antiseptics as well as direct demonstrations of making simple disinfectants. The results of the activity are increased public understanding of the proper use of disinfectants and antiseptics as well as increased community skills in utilizing carbolic acid and clothing bleach into simple disinfectants. This activity is expected to be a reference in making simple disinfectants that are economical, environmentally friendly, and can be made by anyone. It is hoped that the chain of transmission of Covid-19 can be minimized.

Abstract

The use of organic fertilizers can be a solution to reducing the application of inorganic fertilizers because they can improve the soil's physical, chemical, and biological properties to increase the quality and quantity of crop yields. One organic fertilizer that can improve soil nutrients and increase the quality and quantity of the harvest is rice-washing water waste. This waste is helpful for plants, easily obtained by farmers, and environmentally friendly; it has a low price so that farmers can afford it. The objectives of this activity are 1. to increase public knowledge and understanding of the manufacture of Liquid Organic Fertilizer (POC) derived from rice washing water waste, 2. to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers which are diverted to organic fertilizers to maintain soil and environmental quality. This activity was carried out from July to September 2022 at the Wali Jorong Sigiran Nagari Tanjung Sani Office, Tanjung Raya District, Agam Regency. The activity methods used are counseling methods and demonstration of liquid organic fertilizer (POC) making. The activity results show that partners are very interested and enthusiastic about participating in the implementation of activities in receiving the science and technology of fertilizers provided. Furthermore, the motivation of the PKK partner women community group to carry out intensive cultivation or maintenance of local plants is very large. Even the high desire of the community/partners to master the technology for making liquid organic fertilizer (POC) is given. From this activity, it can be concluded that it can increase the community's knowledge and skills in producing alternative organic fertilizers so that plant cultivation activities can run well in Nagari Tanjung Sani, Tanjung Raya District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra.
