Abstract

This study aims to explore the conditions of children from broken home families in Janjimatogu Village, Lubuk Barumun Subdistrict, Padang Lawas Regency. Employing a descriptive qualitative research method, data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation with three children as primary informants. The findings reveal that broken home families result from several key factors: economic issues, poor communication, and infidelity. These factors significantly impact the mental, psychological, and social conditions of the children involved. Children often experience loneliness, emotional instability, and a lack of motivation to continue their education. Furthermore, inadequate parental care and support lead to feelings of insecurity and the absence of a harmonious family environment. One informant even demonstrated self-harming behaviour due to emotional distress. This study underscores the importance of parental roles in providing guidance, affection, and psychological support to mitigate the negative effects of broken home situations. These findings highlight the urgent need to strengthen family communication and build resilience as preventative and recovery measures.

Abstract

Nyadran Sonoageng tradition is a Javanese ritual that combines spiritual values, local culture and Islamic teachings. This study uses a sociocultural approach with communication ethnography method to explore the Nyadran tradition in maintaining social harmony in the midst of changing times. Based on James W. Carey's ritual communication perspective, this study found that symbolic elements such as jolen offerings, processions, and kenduri act as a medium of symbolic communication capable of transmitting collective values. Cross-generational participation in this ritual shows that Nyadran's role as a space to build communication harmony and maintain cultural continuity in a society. The transformation of implementation from simple or traditional to modernization in the implementation of Nyadran, such as the integration of entertainment elements and folk markets, shows the flexibility of tradition in responding to the dynamics of modernization.

Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analyses in several Islamic boarding schools that have implemented multicultural education. The focus of the research is on the application of multicultural values such as tolerance, justice, empathy, respect for equality, and equality in education and daily social interactions in pesantren. The results showed that the pesantren have integrated multicultural character education through various programs, such as interfaith dialogue, cross-cultural social activities, and a curriculum that includes knowledge about religious and cultural diversity. The main values taught in pesantren include tolerance, cooperation, mutual respect, and social justice. Santris are taught to appreciate differences and live in harmony with others, regardless of religious or cultural backgrounds. However, challenges such as resistance to change and the influence of globalisation remain obstacles. Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought changes to the world of education. Gadgets and the internet are effective media used during online learning. Students at SMA Negeri 1 Galang have become accustomed to using devices and various learning applications. Gadgets become something valuable and a necessity. The use of gadgets gives birth to new behaviors that are not present just like that. The habitus of using devices is getting stronger after online learning. The purpose of this study is to see the extent of the habitus of using devices after online learning for Class XII students of SMAN Negeri 1 Galang TP. 2023/2024. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive method. The results showed that the use of gadgets during online learning changed the informants' interaction patterns with technology. Habits in the use of gadgets have an influence on the lives of informants and form new habits. In addition, schools and families as arenas (fields) participate in shaping the habitus of using gadgets. Providing gadgets is done without planning and equipping students with strong digital literacy. Meanwhile, in power relations, students dominate teachers and parents in the use of devices. The use of devices after online learning supports students' social capital, making it easier to interact and build friendship networks. Gadgets also become symbolic capital for students, where the model, brand and price of gadgets become a reference for students to be said to be “cool”. Gadgets as cultural capital show that students who are able to use various applications and utilize gadgets for learning and positive things are considered smarter by their friends. Meanwhile, gadgets as economic capital show that students are able to utilize gadgets as a tool to earn money and transact online. After online learning, the habitus of using gadgets is more used for games, social media, shopping and online transactions than for learning activities

Abstract

Pesantren, as the oldest Islamic educational institution in Indonesia, has played a crucial role in shaping the morals and character of the nation. With the rapid development of technology, pesantren are now faced with the challenge of adapting without losing their traditional values. This article discusses the transformation of pesantren in facing the digital era, including curriculum innovations that integrate science, technology, and vocational education. Through technological adaptation, pesantren now utilise digital devices and online media to increase access to information for santri and enrich teaching methods. However, this adaptation is not free from challenges, especially limited infrastructure and resources in remote areas. Moderation in the use of technology is an important approach, maintaining a balance between religious education and modern skills. Technology is also utilised as an effective means of da'wah and supports digital ethics education, forming santri who are not only religious but also competitive in the world of work. This transformation is expected to strengthen the role of pesantren as relevant and adaptive educational institutions, in line with the times but still adhering to Islamic principles.

Abstract

Media framing will consciously or unconsciously select information and accentuate certain aspects to shape public perception of an event. This research aims to analyze the framing of the recitation of the Qur'an in the context of interfaith dialogue, particularly on the occasion of Pope Francis' visit to the Istiqlal Mosque. Through a descriptive qualitative approach, this research examines in depth how the media, in this case Kompas TV, presented the event. The analysis is focused on the perspective of broadcasting law and contemporary Islamic law. The results show that the practice of reciting the Qur'an in the context of interfaith dialogue has great potential in promoting the values of tolerance and pluralism. However, there are different views among scholars regarding the limits of this practice. Legally, although there is no specific regulation, the general principles in the Broadcasting Law provide room for the practice. Meanwhile, from the perspective of Islamic law, there are differences of opinion among scholars regarding the permissibility of this practice. Qur'anic recitation in the context of interfaith dialogue can be an effective means of building better understanding between religious communities. However, it is important to maintain a balance between the spirit of inclusiveness and the prevailing religious principles. This study will identify the common ground and differences in the perspectives of the two legal systems, as well as their implications for the practice of broadcasting Qur'anic recitations in public spaces.
