Abstract

High patient volume at the Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) polyclinic is driven by expectations for health improvement and satisfactory service delivery. Service quality is a critical factor for patients and a key competitive advantage for healthcare facilities, making its assessment essential. This study aimed to identify the relationship between healthcare service quality and patient satisfaction at the ENT Polyclinic of Muara Teweh Regional Hospital. This study employed a quantitative method with a correlational design, recruiting 62 respondents through accidental sampling. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis and the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results indicated that a vast majority of patients perceived the service quality as poor (93.5%) and reported dissatisfaction (71.0%). Specifically, the service quality dimensions receiving the most negative evaluations were empathy and tangibles. Bivariate analysis revealed a strong and statistically significant correlation between healthcare service quality and patient satisfaction (p=0.001<0.05). This finding underscores that service quality, particularly concerning interpersonal interactions and physical facilities, is a significant predictor of patient satisfaction at the ENT Polyclinic of Muara Teweh Regional Hospital.

Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) constitutes a major health problem among toddlers in Indonesia, with a high prevalence in the under-five age group. Preventive efforts are often hindered by low maternal health literacy, which limits the ability of mothers to effectively comprehend and apply health information. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between health literacy and the level of mothers' knowledge regarding ARI in toddlers within the working area of the Lampihong Community Health Center (Puskesmas). This study employed a quantitative, correlational design with a sample of 47 mothers of toddlers. Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank Correlation test. The main results indicate that a majority of the mothers (85.1%) had 'poor' health literacy, while their knowledge level of ARI was predominantly categorized as 'sufficient' (42.6%). Statistical analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between health literacy and maternal knowledge level (p<.001). In conclusion, a significant relationship exists between health literacy and mothers' knowledge of ARI. Enhancing health literacy is a crucial potential strategy for improving maternal knowledge in the prevention of ARI in toddlers.

Abstract

Limited public knowledge regarding Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) necessitates the development of effective and easily accessible educational methods. Short videos have emerged as a promising medium to enhance this understanding. Consequently, a study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of a short video intervention on CPR knowledge among the residents of Karangbayat Village. The study employed a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design involving 32 randomly selected participants. Knowledge was assessed using a validated questionnaire before and after the intervention, with the data subsequently analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results revealed a significant improvement in knowledge. At baseline, the majority of participants (65.6%) had knowledge classified as 'poor'. However, following the video intervention, the proportion of participants with 'sufficient' knowledge surged dramatically to 97%, increasing from 11 to 31 individuals. This difference was proven to be statistically significant (p = .001). These findings demonstrate that short videos are a highly effective medium for CPR education. This tool can serve as an accessible and impactful alternative to enhance community preparedness for handling medical emergencies. Therefore, the widespread implementation of such media is highly recommended to bolster public life-saving skills

Abstract

Stunting has become a global concern, as reflected in worldwide nutrition improvement initiatives. In efforts to detect and prevent stunting, collaboration with various stakeholders is required, one of whom is community health cadres. Cadres need to acquire basic information and technology-based skills to support stunting prevention. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of website-based educational media on cadres’ knowledge and skills. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test post-test control group approach. Total sampling was used, involving 100 respondents divided into two groups, with sessions lasting 45–60 minutes each. Research instruments included questionnaires assessing cadres’ knowledge and skills related to stunting prevention. The results, analyzed using the marginal homogeneity test, showed a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating the effectiveness of website-based educational media in improving cadres’ knowledge and skills regarding early detection of stunting compared to the control group that used leaflet media. Website-based educational media proved effective in enhancing cadres’ knowledge and skills in early stunting detection, including identifying child growth curves and developmental milestones according to age. This study recommends cross-sectoral collaboration to improve internet access, provide continuous cadre assistance, and integrate digital educational media into community health programs to optimize stunting prevention.

Abstract

Medication adherence is a key determinant for maintaining quality of life and preventing serious complications in older adults with diabetes mellitus. However, adherence is often hindered by various factors, particularly individual perceptions of the disease and its therapy. Negative perceptions or inadequate understanding can constitute a major obstacle to successful treatment outcomes. This study aimed to evaluate the association between the perceptions of older adults with diabetes, as measured by the Health Belief Model (HBM) framework, and their level of medication adherence. This cross-sectional, correlational study was conducted from November 20 to December 17, 2024, in the Babakan Sari sub-district. A sample of 64 respondents was recruited using simple random sampling. Data were collected using the Health Belief Model questionnaire and a medication adherence questionnaire, and subsequently analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Spearman Rank correlation test. The analysis revealed a statistically significant, strong positive relationship between HBM-based perceptions and medication adherence (r = .716, p < .001). Perceived barriers and perceived benefits were identified as the two most influential HBM components in determining medication adherence among older adults with diabetes mellitus. Interventions targeting these two perceptions have the potential to improve therapeutic success in this population.

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic condition that necessitates medication adherence for effective blood pressure control. Hypertensive patients who are compliant with their medication regimen often exhibit higher emotional well-being, which significantly influences their quality of life (QoL).The aim of this study was to identify the correlation between medication adherence and quality of life among hypertensive patients. This quantitative correlational study employed a cross-sectional design involving 122 respondents selected based on pre-defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were collected using the MMAS-8 (Morisky Medication Adherence Scale) and the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. The data were then subjected to univariate and bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square test. The findings revealed a significant relationship between medication adherence and quality of life among hypertensive patients (p-value = 0.001). This significant correlation suggests that patients with higher medication adherence reported a better quality of life. It is anticipated that these results will encourage individuals with hypertension to develop greater awareness of the importance of adhering to prescribed medications as a means of improving their overall quality of life. Furthermore, this study can serve as a valuable reference for healthcare professionals in their efforts to improve patient adherence through appropriate education and scheduled consultations.

Abstract

Nursing education can negatively impact students' psychological well-being and self-esteem. While Expressive Arts Therapy (EAT) is a promising intervention, research on its effectiveness using hybrid methods in non-Western contexts like Indonesia is limited. This study evaluated a free-drawing-based EAT intervention to enhance the self-esteem of Indonesian nursing students. This mixed-methods study used a quasi-experimental, one-group pre-test-post-test design. From 415 students screened in South and Central Kalimantan, 24 participants with low-to-medium self-esteem were selected (purposive sampling). Data were collected using the Nurses' Self-Concept Questionnaire (NSCQ) pre- and post-intervention. Quantitative data were analyzed using a paired-samples t-test; qualitative data from in-depth interviews and FGDs (10 participants) were thematically analyzed. Quantitatively, the increase in mean self-esteem scores was not statistically significant (t(23) = -0.850, p = .202). In stark contrast, qualitative analysis revealed substantial benefits across four themes: (1) enhanced self-insight and awareness; (2) emotional catharsis and stress reduction; (3) drawing as vital non-verbal expression; and (4) a positive therapeutic experience. Although the EAT intervention did not yield statistically significant improvement in self-esteem scores, it provided profound psychological benefits like emotional catharsis and enhanced self-awareness. EAT is a valuable tool for supporting nursing students' mental well-being, functioning as an effective method for stress management and self-exploration.

Abstract

Declining self-care ability in stroke survivors impairs recovery and lowers long-termquality of life. This systematic review evaluates the effectiveness of telehealth interventionsin improving self-care capacity. Based on the PRISMA framework, five databases:PubMed, Science Direct, Scopus, Sage Journals, and ProQuest were searched for literaturepublished between 2020-2024. This search returned 387 results, of which 10 randomizedcontrolled trials were selected and evaluated according to a critical checklist. The resultsof this review suggest that self-care telehealth interventions significantly improve physical(mobility and muscle strength, performance of daily activities) and psychologicalcomponents (self-efficacy, depression and anxiety) that constitute a better quality of life.Telehealth technologies promote autonomy in stroke survivors by remote healthmonitoring, and lessen dependence on direct care. Yet, technological barriers and lowerdigital literacy in older and/or marginalized populations are challenges that must beovercome to achieve fair access and impact
