Abstract

In order to enable early detection and prevention of stunting, it is necessary to improve the early stunting detection skills of health cadres. Currently, research on stunting prevention and early detection generally still utilizes generic educational media and has not yet integrated local cultural approaches for multiethnic communities in the Kapuas River peripheral area. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of a culture-based website media on the early stunting detection skills of health cadres. This study employed a quasi-experimental design using a pre-test and post-test with a control group approach. Sampling was conducted using a total sampling technique involving 110 respondents, who were divided into two groups. Statistical analysis included the Marginal Homogeneity test to assess differences in cadres’ skills between the two groups, as well as the Mann–Whitney U test to compare post-test skills between the intervention and control groups. The research instrument was a questionnaire measuring health cadres’ skills in early stunting detection. The results showed a significant improvement in cadres’ skills in the intervention group, with the proportion of cadres in the good category increasing from 45.5% to 85.5%, compared to the control group, which experienced a decrease from 69.1% to 65.5%, although remaining within the good category. The Marginal Homogeneity test revealed a statistically significant result (p = 0.001; p < 0.05), indicating that the culture-based website media was effective in improving health cadres’ early stunting detection skills. The use of culture-based website media was proven to be effective in enhancing cadres’ skills in early stunting detection. This study recommends cross-sector collaboration to improve internet access, provide assistance to health cadres, and integrate digital educational media in order to enhance the effectiveness of stunting prevention efforts.

Abstract

Emotional numbing among nursing students can impair emotional regulation and increase vulnerability to psychological distress. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of ACT and EWT in enhancing emotional regulation and reducing emotional numbing. A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest two-group design was conducted, involving 52 nursing students selected through purposive sampling and subsequently assigned to intervention groups primarily through random allocation. Emotional regulation was measured using DERS, while emotional numbing was assessed with the ERNS-G. Data were analysed using paired t-tests and ANCOVA to compare posttest outcomes while controlling for pretest scores. Both ACT and EWT significantly improved emotional regulation and reduced emotional numbing within groups (p < .05). However, ANCOVA revealed no statistically significant differences between ACT and EWT in emotional regulation (F = 1.373, p = .247, ?² = .027) or emotional numbing (F = 0.791, p = .378, ?² = .016) after controlling for pretest scores. Both ACT and EWT were effective in improving emotional regulation and reducing emotional numbing among nursing students. Nevertheless, no statistically significant difference in effectiveness was found between the two interventions.

Abstract

Equipping high school students with Basic Life Support (BLS) skills is crucial for managing out-of-hospital cardiac emergencies, yet the comparative effectiveness of peer education versus conventional leaflet-based instruction in Indonesia remains underexplored. This quasi-experimental pretest-posttest study involved 60 twelfth-grade students at Senior High School 3 Banjarbaru. Participants were equally divided into an intervention group receiving peer-supported BLS training (n=30) and a control group receiving leaflet-based education (n=30). Knowledge was assessed using a validated 15-item questionnaire. While both interventions significantly improved BLS knowledge (Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test: intervention, p < 0.001; control, p = 0.003), the peer-supported group demonstrated a greater score increase (from 1.83 ± 0.38 to 3.00 ± 0.00) compared to the control group (from 1.93 ± 0.25 to 2.23 ± 0.43). Furthermore, post-test knowledge scores were significantly higher in the intervention group (Mann-Whitney U = 36.000, p = 0.030). In conclusion, peer-supported BLS training is significantly more effective than leaflet-based education. Integrating peer-led or hybrid approaches into school curricula is recommended to optimize students' emergency preparedness.

Abstract

Globally, many countries are experiencing population ageing and will continue to do so over the next several decades, including Indonesia. As the world’s population ages, there will be a growing demand for health care services that improve the quality of life as well as longevity. In ageing populations, the desire to spend the most advanced years in a good self-assessed health condition has gained more relevance. To cope with the challenges arising from this trend, most older adults prefer to remain in their familiar environment in the community and live with some level of independence. The purpose of this study is to analyze the corelation between social support and quality of life among older adults. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 94 respondens aged 59 and above. Data were collected using validated instruments Medical Outcomes Study Social Support Survey (MOS-SSS) and World Health Organization Quality of Life–BREF (WHOQOL-BREF) Indonesian version. IBM SPSS 29.0 software was used for Spearman’s rank correlation test. The study results indicate that there is a significant correlation between social support and QoL. these results underscore the importance of interventions aimed at strengthening social networks, promoting family involvement, and fostering community empowerment as strategies to improve community quality of life.

Abstract

Video-Based Self-Management Education Reduces Psychological Stress and Blood Pressure in Hypertensive Patients. Hypertension is closely associated with psychological stress, which can impair blood pressure control and self-management capacity. This studyaimed to evaluate the effect of video-based self-management education on psychological stress and blood pressure among hypertensive patients. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted involving 60 hypertensive patients who received a structured video-based self-management education intervention for four weeks. Psychological stress was measured using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS- 21), and blood pressure was assessed using a calibrated digital sphygmomanometer. Data normality was evaluated using the Shapiro–Wilk test. The results demonstrated a significant reduction in blood pressure based on the Paired Samples t-test (p < 0.001; 95% CI: ?55.83 to ?50.33), while psychological stress significantly decreased according to the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test (p < 0.001). Video-based self-management education is aneffective and practical nursing intervention for improving both psychological and physiological outcomes among hypertensive patients in primary healthcare settings.

Abstract

Electronic Medical Records (EMR) aim to improve healthcare quality, but successful implementation relies on infrastructure, training, interoperability, and data privacy. This sequential explanatory mixed-methods study examines these factors' impact on hospital service quality at a regional Indonesian hospital. Quantitative data from 227 nurses, analyzed via multiple linear regression, were contextualized through qualitative stakeholder interviews. The results show all four factors significantly improve EMR service quality (R = 0.793), with infrastructure being the most dominant. However, qualitative findings highlight ongoing challenges: uneven infrastructure, limited continuous training, and inconsistent integration and security practices. Ultimately, maximizing EMR benefits requires a sustainable socio-technical approach integrating technological readiness, human capacity, and robust data governance.

Abstract

The prevalence of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is increasing globally, including among adolescents. Limited knowledge about CKD prevention may predispose to unhealthy lifestyle behaviors that increase the risk of kidney damage. This study aimed to examine the effect of Kidney Risk Education (KREN), an audiovisual edutainment-based intervention on adolescents’ knowledge on CKD prevention at SMPN 21 Central Bengkulu, Indonesia. A pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest design was conducted involving 81 students. Knowledge was assessed using validated and reliable questionnaire administered before and after the intervention. KREN was delivered through audiovisual edutainment focusing on CKD risk factors, prevention strategies, and healthy lifestyle behaviors. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results showed a statistically significant increase on students’ knowledge scores after the intervention (p = 0.0001), indicating that KREN effectively enhanced adolescents’ knowledge of CKD prevention. Audiovisual-based health education can serve as a practical and scalable health promotion strategy in school settings to support early prevention of chronic kidney disease. However, further studies with control groups are needed to strengthen the validity of these findings.

Abstract

Children with intellectual disabilities have limitations in intellectual function and adaptive behavior, influencing their daily activities, including their ability to eat independently. To improve this skill, children need support from their parents so they can practice consistently and gradually. If family support is limited, children will become dependent on others and struggle to eat on their own. This study aims to analyse the relationship between family support and independent eating in children with intellectual disabilities. Using a quantitative analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design and total sampling technique, involving 40 children with intellectual disabilities at SLB Bina Sejahtera. Data were collected using validated and reliable questionnaires and observation checklists and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results indicated that among the 24 respondents (60.0%) providing good family support, 20 children (74.1%) ate independently, whereas 4 children (30.8%) did not. The analysis indicates a significant relationship between family support and eating independence, with a p-value of 0.023 (< 0.05). In conclusion, family support has a significant relationship with eating independence in children with intellectual disabilities. Therefore, active and consistent family involvement through guidance and independence training is important to improve the child’s quality of life, particularly regarding daily independence, including eating activities.
