Abstract

The TERRAS website is a platform for students and staff at Telkom University to check room availability. However, users encounter several issues, such as an unintuitive interface, confusing navigation, and inconsistent design. Therefore, this study evaluates the interface design of the TERRAS website based on three key principles: simplicity, consistency, and perceptibility, as developed by Don Norman, Jakob Nielsen, Larry Constantine, and Lucy Lockwood. This research employs a qualitative method, conducting in-depth interviews with students as primary users and logistics staff as website facilitators. Additionally, observations were made on other Telkom University websites to compare their level of consistency. The findings indicate that the TERRAS website lacks consistency compared to other Telkom University websites. While the simplicity aspect is fairly adequate, the website lacks informativeness. Moreover, perceptibility needs improvement to enhance the user experience. Improvements in interface design are necessary to increase usability and website effectiveness. The recommendations from this study are expected to serve as a foundation for developers to optimize the TERRAS website design, making it more user-friendly and aligned with users' needs.

Abstract

Abstract

Verbal communication can be extremely difficult for deaf people, so visual media and other forms of expression are crucial. The photovoice approach uses photography as an effective medium for expressing feelings and personal experiences. A participatory method called photovoice allows people to tell their stories through pictures, particularly in situations where words are insufficient. This study looks into how artificial intelligence (ChatGPT) might be used to help the deaf community during the photovoice narration stage. The study emphasizes AI's capacity to improve story structure, emotional depth, and clarity through a qualitative methodology that includes in-depth interviews and experimental comparison between self-written and AI-assisted narratives. The results indicate that participants respect their own expression, many also believe AI may help them articulate complex reflections and better organize their ideas. Participants recognized AI's value in enhancing storytelling, despite reservations about its often impersonal tone. Therefore, AI is most suited as a contemplative companion rather than a replacement, promoting diversity while maintaining the therapeutic and human centered of photovoice. This study adds to the growing body of knowledge regarding human-technology collaboration, specifically in the areas of inclusive, therapeutic, and creative communication practices for underserved groups.

Abstract

Sundanese culture possesses a wealth of traditional values and symbols that can be visualized through various digital media, one of which is mobile application icons. This study aims to design angklung-themed application icons as an effort to visualize Sundanese culture in the context of user interface (UI) design. Using a qualitative approach, the design process was carried out through three main stages: collecting visual references, creating manual sketches, and digitizing the designs. The main visual elements of the angklung, such as vertical and horizontal bamboo tubes, were creatively adapted into common application icons including Home, Contact, Message, Settings, Files, Browser, Music, Camera, Phone, and Clock. The results indicate that these icon designs not only fulfill aesthetic and functional aspects of modern UI but also successfully represent local cultural values visually. These findings reinforce the idea that digital interfaces can serve as effective and adaptive media for cultural representation in the technological era. UI design based on local culture such as this is expected to strengthen Indonesia's visual identity within the digital ecosystem.

Abstract

M Hotel is a short film produced by artificial intelligence (AI) that has won several awards. This raises questions related to the meaning of reality, authenticity, and subjectivity in its production in the current era of digital technology development. This research employed a qualitative-descriptive approach, integrating visual and narrative text analysis methodologies to examine the film. Jean Baudrillard's theoretical framework of simulacra and hyperreality is employed to analyze how M Hotel not only creates a representation of reality, but also forms a simulation that is detached from its original reference. The findings indicate that the M Hotel has entered the fourth stage of simulacra, wherein reality is substituted by an independent image. The film also indicates a shift in human subjectivity towards aesthetics created through an algorithmic command system that blurs the line between reality and illusion.

Abstract

This study explores the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the digital branding of local organic artisans through the Design Thinking framework. The research is motivated by the persistent challenges faced by artisans in producing high-quality visual content, such as suboptimal lighting, simple composition, and limited variation, which hinder audience reach and digital appeal. By applying the Design Thinking stages of empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test, this study collaborated with Biorama and three artisan partners to design and evaluate AI-based solutions, namely Gemini Veo 3 for promotional videos and ChatGPT for product photo enhancement. Testing conducted via the Instagram account @biorama___ in July 2025 revealed measurable improvements. Engagement rates ranged from 11.9% to 13.1%, with average likes between 41–59, comments 5–9, and reach between 499–651 per post. These findings confirm that AI interventions can deliver more appealing, realistic, and brand-aligned visual content for local artisans. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of prompt engineering into community-based digital branding practices, framed within the concept of creative placemaking. The study contributes theoretically to AI-driven branding strategies and offers practical guidance for artisans to strengthen their digital competitiveness.

Abstract

Nagari Indudur, located in IX Koto Sungai Lasi District, Solok Regency, West Sumatra, is a major producer of candlenut oil. With an annual contribution of Rp. 147,350,000, candlenut oil plays a crucial role in the local economy. However, limited accessibility and promotion remain major challenges for farmers. To support the introduction of candlenut oil products, the Indonesian Conservation Community (KKI) WARSI produced a short documentary titled "It’s More Than Candlenut Indudur." This film aims to promote Indudur’s traditional candlenut oil to national and international audiences. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method to analyse the cinematographic techniques used in the film, including aerial cinematography, the application of the rule of thirds composition, as well as drone shots and other cinematic techniques. The study findings indicate that visual techniques such as eagle-eye angle, high angle, composition in framing, and camera movements like dolly-in-out and following shots effectively showcase the topographical beauty and the activities of candlenut oil farmers in an aesthetic and informative manner. With a duration of 6 minutes and 27 seconds, this film delivers a strong visual narrative, supported by Minang-language audio and subtitles, to highlight Indudur’s potential as a producer of high-quality candlenut oil. The results of this study provide insights into the importance of a cinematic approach, referring to how visuals are used to convey narratives emotionally and immersivity in documentary films aimed at promoting local products while also supporting the economic sustainability of rural communities in remote areas.
