Abstract

Office is a building that has function to run company business. The comfort of a work environment come from various aspects, one of which is the aspect of preparing the layout of the workplace. Offices require the best layout of the workplace and office equipment so that employees can feel comfortable in carrying out their work so that they can produce maximum performance. One type of workspace is open space working. One of the supporting elements in offices that implement open space working is the cabinet which functions as a place to store work documents. A cabinet is not only as a storage, but also has the function of adding to the aesthetic value of a room. Currently, there are many different forms of cabinets. However, functionally it only functions as a storage area. That is why The cabinet designed is also movable so it is easy to move to another area that is needed. The designed cabinet is also integrated with a smart home which functions as a timepiece, and a place for placing a monitor which can be used as a medium for meetings. In this research, researchers used the design thinking design method: Empthize, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Test. Testing by distributing questionnaires regarding the functions of the cabinet. The results stated that 85% of all functions in the cabinet functioned well so that it could be categorized as a cabinet design integrated with a smart home that was appropriate and met the needs of open workspace.

Abstract

Formal housing stands out as the most favored residential environment for individuals of all ages. Beyond its appealing architectural design, formal housing places a premium on safety, security, and access to public space amenities. These amenities are envisioned to serve as forums for positive social engagement, fostering a sense of belonging, camaraderie, and cohesion. Studies have shown that social interaction in public spaces correlates with heightened place attachment and improved social well-being among residents. This research endeavors to devise an assessment methodology capable of gauging the quality of social interaction in residential public spaces. The ultimate goal is to develop several assessment frameworks derived from a comprehensive literature review on social interaction quality within formal housing complexes. These frameworks will identify key aspects such as social interaction participants, temporal dynamics, activity types, intensity levels, and behavioral settings.

Abstract

Abstract: Blindness is a general term used to describe a condition in which a person experiences impairment or limitations in their sense of sight. This gives rise to special needs—including physiological, personal, and social aspects—for people with visual impairments. Government efforts to address the issues faced by the visually impaired include social rehabilitation, empowerment, and social security and protection, one of which is carried out through the Bali chapter of the Indonesian Association of the Visually Impaired (PERTUNI). This organization strives to develop orientation and mobility skills as well as the strengths possessed by people with visual impairments, one of which is by conducting artistic activities that involve people with visual impairments as the primary participants and visitors with normal vision as supporting participants. The objective of this study is to examine interior design based on the needs of the visually impaired, identify the factors that make it difficult for the visually impaired to navigate spaces, and establish criteria for interior design that can meet their needs, thereby enhancing their orientation and mobility and providing a sense of comfort and safety during all types of activities. The process of examining interior design employs a qualitative approach, beginning with the collection of data on the existing interior of the PERTUNI Bali building as a case study. Based on the research findings, the factors that make it difficult for visually impaired individuals to identify their surroundings and cause them to become disoriented within building interiors include inconsistencies in spatial planning, spatial elements, complementary spatial elements, and spatial facilities in relation to the primary users of the building’s interior—namely, visually impaired individuals. Abstract

Abstract: This paper aims to discuss alternative design concepts for nighttime lighting in non-commercial public spaces using Richard Kelly’s three principles of lighting design. This study uses the village street corridors of Siwalankerto, Surabaya, as a case study. This is based on the issues and phenomena surrounding the implementation of nighttime lighting in urban village street corridors that use the SNI 7391:2008 standard, which emphasizes technical aspects such as illuminance levels. The requirement for specific illuminance levels is then met through the use of public street lighting (LPJU) without considering other supporting aspects that shape the urban village. This study aims to illustrate how urban village street corridors at night can be designed by considering the characteristics and activity needs of the surrounding residents. This research is a qualitative study using a single-case study approach. The case study subject is the Siwalankerto urban village street corridor, which has previously been studied in terms of both compliance with street lighting standards and the lighting preferences of the surrounding community as the primary users. The analysis of the case study is presented through the depiction of three lighting techniques: ambient luminescence, focal glow, and play of brilliant. The results of this study seek to examine the lighting of the urban village street corridor from the perspective and considerations of the human scale as the primary users. It is hoped that this will serve as a basis for reflection on development and new ideas in the lighting design of non-commercial public spaces, such as urban village street corridors. Abstract

Abstract : As an archipelago with an extremely long coastline, Indonesia is highly vulnerable to coastal erosion and climate-related disasters. Approximately 29% of Indonesia’s coastline is experiencing erosion of varying severity; one nature-based solution that has proven effective in mitigating these impacts is mangrove forests. Mangrove forests are coastal ecosystems that play a vital role in protecting shorelines from abrasion and maintaining biodiversity, while also contributing to climate change mitigation through carbon sequestration. This study aims to examine the role of mangroves as natural coastal barriers and their potential as the foundation for sustainable ecotourism development. The method used is a literature review, analyzing scientific publications, environmental institutional reports, and government policies related to mangroves and ecotourism. The findings indicate that mangroves effectively reduce the impact of sea waves and tsunamis and provide natural habitats for diverse flora and fauna. Furthermore, mangrove ecotourism can offer economic benefits to local communities if managed sustainably and with active community participation. Integrated and inclusive management involving all stakeholders is essential to preserving the ecosystem while improving the welfare of coastal communities. These findings affirm that mangrove ecotourism development can be a strategic solution combining environmental conservation with economic empowerment in coastal areas. Abstract

Abstract : The availability of accessible circulation spaces in building design and furniture layout in several hospital facilities in Indonesia is still not optimal. Patients with reduced bodily function or physical mobility limitations have difficulty walking; they require mobility aids and must adapt to hospital conditions. At Gambiran Regional General Hospital, patients using mobility aids accompanied by caregivers are most commonly found in the outpatient clinic zone. The research problem is indicated by the fact that not all accessibility features of the outpatient clinic building can be easily navigated by users of mobility aids when visiting and accessing the outpatient clinic zone at Gambiran Regional General Hospital. The objective of this study is to evaluate the level of outpatient clinic accessibility by identifying, through an approach based on universal design principles, the accessibility of the outpatient clinic zone at Gambiran Regional General Hospital for patients using ABJ and their caregivers. The research method employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study of the outpatient clinic zone at Gambiran Regional General Hospital through observation and analysis of accessibility phenomena. The observation instrument utilized a table of indicators based on the seven principles of universal design. Subsequently, a questionnaire was distributed to the research sample. The questionnaire instrument employed indicators based on building accessibility principles. The research sample consisted of a pair of patients using mobility aids (ambulatory, wheelchair, and stretcher) and their caregivers. The questionnaire results will be analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis, presented in tables categorizing the instrument’s scale, using SPSS version 26. The analysis will identify differences in parameter values, which will then be compared using a comparison table. The results of this study indicate that there are accessibility barriers for patients with ABJ in the outpatient clinic area of Gambiran Regional General Hospital. Abstract

Abstract: Backpack designs for mountain climbing have continued to evolve significantly, driven by rapid advancements in materials and equipment components, as well as the emergence of efficient travel management techniques such as ultralight backpacking. This study aims to examine how these innovations influence transformations in the front appearance, surface design, color selection, and back system of backpacks, which are essential for user comfort and functionality. Using a qualitative approach, this study collected data through systematic visual observation of backpack models from various periods, supported by literature analysis and surveys of the hiking community and product designers to enrich the interpretation. The research findings indicate that the adoption of lightweight yet strong materials such as Dyneema and Ripstop Nylon, the development of ergonomic internal frames, and the demand for packing efficiency and load distribution are the primary drivers of design transformation. This evolution is evident in the shift from rigid traditional forms toward modular, adaptive, and ergonomic designs. This research is expected to enrich the body of knowledge in product design, particularly in the context of mountaineering equipment, through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates aspects of design, materials engineering, and travel management. This research can contribute to the development of backpacks that meet the needs of today’s users, while also educating the outdoor community about the evolving dynamics of their gear to enhance the hiking experience. Abstract

Ecotourism in Indonesia, especially in 'Pandang Tak Jemu' Mangrove Ecotourism in Batam, faces a number of issues that affect its potential as a sustainable tourism destination. These issues include mangrove ecosystem degradation, lack of environmentally friendly facilities and infrastructure, and mismatch between the number of tourist visits and natural capacity. To address these issues, a good development and arrangement concept is needed that considers architectural, construction, and ecological aspects. Ecotourism architecture should utilize sustainable local materials and designs that minimize environmental impact. In terms of construction, structures should ensure stability without disturbing the mangrove ecosystem. Ecologically, development must ensure mangrove regeneration and ecosystem balance. On the other hand, the issue of Malay locality in Batam can be integrated as genius loci to provide identity and added value to ecotourism. Adoption of Malay cultural elements in ecotourism design and programs can provide an authentic experience to visitors and support local socio-cultural sustainability.
