Abstract

This study aims to describe the form, conceptual meaning, and stylistic function of metaphors in the novel Ayah, Ini Arahnya ke Mana, Ya? through a cognitive stylistic approach. This study is motivated by the importance of metaphors as conceptual tools that not only function as language sweeteners, but also represent how characters understand life experiences, emotions, social relations, and various psychological dynamics they experience. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method with a cognitive stylistic approach. The research data are in the form of words, phrases, clauses, sentences, and metaphorical expressions found in the novel, while the data source comes from the novel Ayah, Ini Arahnya ke Mana, Ya?. The data collection technique is carried out through the listening method with reading and note taking techniques. Data analysis is carried out through the stages of identification, classification, interpretation, and drawing conclusions based on the conceptual metaphor theory of Lakoff and Johnson. The results of the study show that the metaphors in this novel are dominated by three types of conceptual metaphors, namely ontological metaphors, orientational metaphors, and structural metaphors. Ontological metaphors are used to concretize emotional experiences, inner conflicts, and psychological conditions of characters. Orientational metaphors represent emotional states through spatial orientation, such as up down and near–far. Meanwhile, structural metaphors map life experiences through the concepts of travel, war, and navigation. The research findings indicate that metaphors play a significant role in constructing themes of loss, the search for identity, father–child relationships, and the struggle for the meaning of life. This research's contribution lies in the integration of stylistic and cognitive linguistic studies in the analysis of contemporary Indonesian literature, thus revealing the relationship between language, embodiment, and cognitive processes in the formation of narrative meaning. Keywords: conceptual metaphor, cognitive stylistics, novel.

Abstract

This study examines the aesthetics of AI-based multimodal literary works from a multicultural literary perspective. The rapid development of generative artificial intelligence has transformed literary production from monomodal forms into multimodal works integrating text, visuals, audio, and interactivity within a unified digital ecosystem. This transformation raises critical questions regarding the construction of aesthetic meaning, cultural representation, and the relationship between human creativity and machine-generated expression. The research employed a qualitative descriptive-interpretative approach combined with library research and digital text analysis. The study applied interdisciplinary perspectives, including literary aesthetics, multimodal discourse analysis, AI aesthetics, posthumanism, and multicultural literary theory. Data consisted of AI-generated multimodal literary texts, visual elements, and interactive features collected from digital platforms. The findings reveal that AI-based literary aesthetics are hybrid, multimodal, and interactive in nature. AI-generated works demonstrate coherent narrative structures, systematic figurative language, and strong multimodal integration that enrich aesthetic experiences through immersive and participatory engagement. However, the aesthetic expressions tend to be repetitive, generic, and limited in emotional depth because they are primarily constructed through algorithmic patterns rather than human existential experience. From a multicultural perspective, AI literary works are capable of representing local cultural identities within global contexts, yet they also exhibit tendencies toward cultural simplification, stereotyping, and homogenization due to biases embedded in training data. The study concludes that AI-based literary aesthetics represent a new posthuman aesthetic paradigm resulting from human–machine collaboration, while simultaneously requiring critical multicultural approaches to maintain cultural sensitivity and diversity in digital literary production. Keywords: AI aesthetics, multimodal literature, generative artificial intelligence, multicultural literature, posthumanism.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Artificial Intelligence-based media DeepSeek in improving the news text writing skills of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Cibalong. The background of this research lies in students' low writing proficiency, especially in composing structured and linguistically accurate news texts. The study employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest model. The sample consisted of 30 students from a single class. The instruments used were writing tasks and a scoring rubric. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test due to the non-normal distribution identified in the normality test. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ writing ability, with an average pretest score of 23.70 and posttest score of 85.20. The Wilcoxon test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference between students' writing skills before and after using DeepSeek. It can be concluded that the DeepSeek media is effective in enhancing students’ news text writing skills, and contributes to the development of Artificial Intelligence-based learning media in Indonesian language education. Keywords: DeepSeek, Artificial Intelligence, writing skills, news text, Indonesian language learning.

Abstract

Vocabulary is a fundamental component in mastering the Indonesian language, serving as the basis for comprehension and effective communication. However, elementary students’ vocabulary proficiency remains relatively low, which affects their ability to understand and convey information accurately. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Wordwall digital learning media in improving vocabulary mastery among fifth-grade students at SDN 2 Cikajang. The research employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 25 students. Instruments used include vocabulary tests and statistical analyses such as normality test, homogeneity test, paired sample t-test, and simple regression analysis. The results revealed a significant improvement in students’ vocabulary achievement. The average score increased from 26.72 (pretest) to 88.16 (posttest). The paired sample t-test showed a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference before and after the treatment. However, the regression analysis revealed that learning motivation did not have a significant effect on learning outcomes (sig. = 0.700 > 0.05). The findings suggest that Wordwall is effective in enhancing vocabulary acquisition, regardless of students' motivation levels. This indicates that interactive and engaging digital media can independently support students' learning outcomes and should be considered as an innovative alternative in vocabulary instruction. Abstract

Learning to write poetry in elementary schools plays an important role in fostering creativity, empathy, and appreciation for literature. However, many students face difficulties due to limited imagination, word choice challenges, and low motivation. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of poetry writing instruction using a website-based medium with Canva in terms of process, outcomes, and students’ learning motivation among fourth-grade students in Sumedang Utara District. The research employed a quasi-experimental method with instruments including a teaching module, observation sheets, tests, and questionnaires, analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The findings reveal that the learning process was carried out very effectively with an observation score of 91, student learning outcomes were classified as high with an average score of 71.0 and a z-score of -2.10 within the interval –2.33 < z < 2.33, and learning motivation was also high with an average score of 82.81. Abstract

This work analyzes how idioms in The Truman Show influence the psychological response of audience. The analysis uses Boatner & Gates semantics theory in order to provide the theoretical background regarding idioms while using Leon Festinger's theory of Cognitive Dissonance to draw the psychological connection. Although there are many studies on semantics and psychological dissonance, there has yet to be a study that connects semantics and psychological response through the Truman Show. Using a descriptive qualitative method, 25 idioms were identified from the movie script: Lexemic idioms (44%), Phrase idioms (24%), Frozen idioms (24%), and Proverbs (8%). The dominance of Lexemic idioms requires audiences to interpret both literal and figurative meanings which evokes their psychological engagement. Keywords: Idioms, Cognitive dissonance, Semantics

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms, functions, and typological characteristics of interrogative constructions in the Toba Batak language. The analysis employs a syntactic typology and functional construction approach, focusing on structural, morphological, and pragmatic strategies used by native speakers in daily communication. The data were collected through documentation and in-depth interviews with native speakers from the Samosir and Toba regions. The analysis was conducted using intralingual and distributional methods based on the theoretical framework of Sudaryanto (2015) and Payne (2006). The findings reveal that interrogative constructions in Toba Batak can be categorized into three main types: yes–no questions, partial questions, and rhetorical questions. Interrogative markers include particles such as ma, do, and na, as well as rising intonation patterns at the end of sentences. Additionally, word order inversion often occurs in partial interrogatives. Functionally, Toba Batak interrogatives are not limited to seeking information but also serve pragmatic purposes such as expressing requests, irony, or emotional emphasis. This research contributes to the linguistic documentation of local languages and provides valuable insight into Austronesian typology, especially in the grammatical description of regional languages in Indonesia. Abstract

D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye (1951) remains one of the most discussed novels in modern American literature. This study analyzes key symbols in J. D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye using Saussurean semiotics and connects them to teenage identity in the digital era. Each symbol’s meaning changes depending on Holden Caulfield’s emotions and situations, reflecting Saussure’s view that meaning is relational and context-dependent. Qualitative textual analysis is used to examine how the relationship between signifier and signified shifts across symbols such as the red hunting hat, the ducks in the lagoon, the Museum of Natural History, and the carousel. The findings reveal that Holden’s search for authenticity in a “phony” world mirrors how modern teenagers construct and negotiate their identities through digital signs like social media profiles and online expressions. This study fills a gap in previous scholarship by linking classical semiotics with contemporary youth culture by showing how meaning-making in both literature and digital life depends on interpretation, difference, and social context. Keywords: Saussurean semiotics, The Catcher in the Rye, teenage identity, digital era, symbolism.
