Abstract

One of the causes of stunting is limited access to health care and essential services. Based on SKI 2023 data, there are still stunted toddlers in North Sumatera who have not used healthcare facilities in the past year since the survey was conducted. The purpose of this study was to analyze the determinants of healthcare facilities utilization in stunted toddlers in North Sumatera, focusing on the factors of health insurance ownership, travel time, and transportation costs. The study design used was cross-sectional with a sample size of 801 stunted toddlers aged 24-59 months in North Sumatera. Univariate data analysis was performed by presenting the results in the form of frequency tables, bivariate analysis using chi-square, and multivariate analysis using logistic regression. Based on the results of bivariate analysis using the chi-square test, it was found that there was no effect of health insurance ownership (p=0.059) and travel time (p=0.108), and there was an effect of transportation costs (p=0.001) on the use of healthcare facilities. Multivariate analysis using logistic regression showed that the variable of transportation costs (p=0.001) had a significant effect on the use of healthcare facilities with an Odd Ratio (OR) value of 3.894. This shows that transportation costs are still a barrier to accessing health care, especially for stunted toddlers. Therefore, a service approach through home visits could be a potential solution so that high transportation costs no longer become a barrier to accessing health services.

Abstract

Patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis require proper nutritional management to prevent malnutrition. This is because the hemodialysis process can cause protein loss and energy imbalance. Objectives the aim of this research is analyzing the Standardized Nutrition Care Process carried out in hospitalized patients with CKD at Moewardi Hospital Surakarta. This study is a descriptive study with case studies. Data were collected through patient interviews and analysis of medical records. Monitoring and evaluation of nutritional care were conducted over a period of 3 days. Indicators used for monitoring included anthropometric data, biochemistry, physical clinical data, and food intake through a 24-hour recall form. Results, a low-sodium dialysis diet (LS) III was prescribed to the patient, with the Schofield formula being used to determine nutrition requirements. The required energy was 2102.64 kcal, with 69.44 g of protein, 70.08 g of fat, and 298.54 g of carbohydrates. The daily limit of sodium was set at 1-2 mEq/KgBW because of hypertension and edema. Soft food was provided three times a day for main meals and two times a day for snacks. After three day monitoring period, there was an increase in patient intake however, it remained below the target level of 70%. In this case, the patient's intake increased on day 2, but on day 3 there was a decrease in intake due to the patient's unstable condition. As a result, the interventions carried out had to be adjusted to align with the patient's condition.

Abstract

Cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer deaths worldwide. Cancer patients often experience decreased food intake and poor nutritional status due to pain, nausea, vomiting, and the effects of chemotherapy and surgery. This case study aims to determine the implementation of the Standardized Nutrition Care Process (PAGT) in patients with post-operative cancer pain from an intra-abdominal tumor suspected of being a rectosigmoid mass, pre-chemotherapy, and malnutrition. The case study was conducted in May 2023 at Dr. Moewardi General Hospital in Surakarta. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, anthropometric measurements, biochemical examinations, and medical records. PAGT was carried out through the stages of assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring, and nutritional evaluation. The patient was a 48-year-old woman who had experienced a 26% weight loss in the last 3 months with a BMI of 16.17 kg/m² and a waist circumference of 20.6 cm (malnutrition). Biochemical results showed anemia (Hb 11.5 g/dL). Energy and protein intake were far below requirements. Nutritional diagnoses established included: energy-protein malnutrition, inadequate oral intake, and risk of micronutrient deficiency. Interventions included a high-energy-protein diet and low residue diet with texture modifications and nutritional counseling. Monitoring showed improvement in intake, although it still did not meet requirements. The conclusion is PAGT in patients with intra-abdominal cancer and malnutrition can help identify nutritional problems and plan appropriate dietary interventions. Appropriate nutritional interventions are crucial to prevent worsening nutritional status and support the success of medical therapy.

Abstract

Background: Cholesterol is essential for the formation of cell membranes, bile salts, hormones, and vitamin D, as well as serving as an energy source. Reduced physical activity in middle-aged adults can decrease organ function and increase the risk of metabolic disorders, while a diet high in saturated fat and low in fiber may elevate blood cholesterol levels. This study aimed to determine the relationship between dietary patterns and physical activity with total cholesterol levels in middle-aged adults in Petapahan Village, Deli Serdang Regency. Using a quantitative cross-sectional design with 47 respondents, data were collected through interviews, the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), a physical activity questionnaire, and cholesterol meter measurements, and analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. The results showed that 64% of respondents frequently consumed certain foods, 57% had light physical activity, and 36% had high cholesterol levels. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between dietary patterns and physical activity with total cholesterol levels (p = 0.000), indicating that both factors are associated with cholesterol levels in middle-aged adults.

Abstract

Dysmenorrheaiis a frequent menstrual discomfort among adolescent girls that may greatly disrupt both school performance and everyday activities. Eating patterns, especially junk food consumption and calcium intake, may play a role in the occurrence of dysmenorrhea. This research sought to examine the association between these dietary factors and the incidence of dysmenorrhea among first-year nutrition students at Poltekkes Kemenkes Riau. A quantitative, cross-sectional_design was_employed involving_54 respondents selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ), and a menstrual pain scale questionnaire. The results revealed that the majority of respondents frequently consumed junk food (57.4%) and had inadequate calcium intake (53.5%). Chi-square analysis showed a significant association between_junk_food consumption (p = 0.037) and calcium intake (p = 0.037) with the incidence of dysmenorrhea. The findings suggest that high junk food consumption and low calcium intake may increase the risk of dysmenorrhea. Therefore, nutrition education promoting healthy eating habits is essential to prevent menstrual disorders among young women.

Abstract

Background: Sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) are beverages to which sugar is added. SSBs are low in nutritional value, and have been associated with various health risks, such as increased incidence of obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, and dental caries. Labeling on SSBs was one of potential strategies used to reduce the purchase and intake of SSB. Objective: This review aims to summarize findings from previous studies on the effect of labeling on SSBs in relation to purchasing of SSBs among adults. Methods: A literature search was conducted through Google Scholar and PubMed using these keywords (“nutrition label” OR “warning label” OR “food label” OR “health label”) AND (“sugar sweetened beverage” OR “SSB” OR “sugary drink”) AND (“behavior” OR “purchase”) AND (“adult”). Articles published in the range of 10 years (2015-2025) were included. Results: The search found 10 articles that met the inclusion and exclusion criterias. The labels used in the studies were primarily text health warning labels and graphic health warning labels. Most studies reported that labels used in SSB products reduced consumers’ intention to choose SSBs. Conclusion: SSB labeling, whether in text or image form, has the potential to reduce consumers’ purchasing intentions of sugar-sweetened beverages.

Abstract

Adolescents are a group that is vulnerable to nutritional problems due to various physiological and psychosocial changes. In Indonesia, the prevalence of malnutrition and overnutrition among adolescents is still relatively high. Various factors directly affect nutritional status, namely food intake, as well as indirect factors such as stress. Stress can disrupt eating behavior and affect appetite regulation, resulting in changes in energy intake and body weight. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between stress levels and energy intake with the nutritional status of adolescents in Surakarta. This study used an observational method with a cross-sectional approach involving 155 respondents using simple random sampling. Stress levels were measured using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS-42) questionnaire, energy intake was assessed through a 7-day food record, and nutritional status was measured using z-scores with age-specific body mass index (BMI-for-Age). The results of the study, which were tested using Chi-Square and correlation tests, showed that there was a relationship between stress levels and nutritional status (p = 0.000; r = 0.317) and a relationship between energy intake and nutritional status (p = 0.000; r = 0.494). In conclusion, stress levels and energy intake are interrelated factors that affect the nutritional status of adolescents This study shows the need for interventions focused on stress management education and the promotion of a balanced diet to improve adolescent health.

Abstract

Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) is the accumulation of liver fat in individuals who are not heavy alcohol users. The term Metabolic Associated Fatty Liver Disease (MAFLD) was introduced to emphasize its association with metabolic syndrome. In addition to classic factors such as obesity, diabetes, and dyslipidemia, socio-cultural factors such as diet, lifestyle, community habits, urbanization, and work culture play an important role in the epidemiology of this disease. This article aims to explore the relationship between socio-cultural factors and the incidence of NAFLD/MAFLD through a review of the latest literature. The literature review was conducted using a narrative approach based on databases. The literature shows that socio-cultural factors influence the risk of NAFLD/MAFLD through various mechanisms, including a shift in diet from traditional patterns to high-calorie and ultra-processed diets, an increase in sedentary lifestyles due to urbanization, and certain cultural perceptions that view obesity as a symbol of prosperity. In addition, social and gender norms also influence physical activity, while family and community support plays an important role in the success of interventions. Socio-cultural factors contribute significantly to the development of NAFLD/MAFLD. Therefore, strategies for the prevention and control of this disease need to integrate the promotion of healthy lifestyles with culturally-based interventions that are sensitive to the local context.

Abstract

Anemia in pregnant women remains a serious problem in Indonesia because it contributes to increased morbidity and mortality rates among mothers and infants.  To address this problem, the government has launched the Iron Supplement Tablet (TTD) program; however, TTD usage among children remains low.  This study aims to understand the relationship between parents' knowledge and behavior and their level of compliance in consuming TTD at the Sungai Iyu Community Health Center, Bendahara District.  This cross-sectional study involved 47 employees in the working area of the Sungai Iyu Community Health Center using total sampling, knowledge, attitud, and TTD consumption data, and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that although most parents had good knowledge (46.8%) and good attitudes (52.2%), TTD consumption was still relatively low at 55.3%. There was a significant correlation between knowledge, attitudes, and compliance; therefore, education and sustainability are needed to increase TTD consumer compliance.
