Abstract

This research aims (1) to explain the procedure for implementing the tradition of zakat fitrah (known as "lawatino pitaraa") in the Muna ethnic community, and (2) to discover and explain the wisdom and symbolic meanings inherent in the tradition of zakat fitrah's implementation in shaping the character of the Muna ethnic community. This study was conducted in Muna Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province. The selection of informants was carried out using the snowballing technique. The data collection techniques used were: (1) direct observation, (2) in-depth interviews, and (3) literature study related to zakat fitrah. Qualitative descriptive data analysis was performed on the procedure for implementation and the symbolic meanings of zakat fitrah in the tradition of the Muna ethnic community. The research findings indicate that: (1) The implementation of "lawatino pitaraa" in the Muna ethnic group is led by a "modhi" who functions as the zakat administrator. The main stages of its implementation include: (a) the "muzakki" (the person giving zakat) handing over money according to their zakat obligation or substituting it with rice or corn; (b) the "muzakki" articulating their intention, (c) the "muzakki" grasping the rice or corn, (d) the turn of the zakat administrator to hold the rice or corn while simultaneously blowing on it with intention, (e) the zakat administrator leading a prayer to Allah SWT followed by the "muzakki"; (2) The significance of zakat fitrah's implementation in fostering the social concern character of the Muna ethnic group includes values of honesty/integrity, adherence to principles, surrender, inner peace, and submission to Allah SWT for the forgiveness of sins, purification of wealth, hope for a better future life, health, and longevity, as well as gratitude to Allah SWT. Zakat fitrah represents a social responsibility to create collective happiness among different social, cultural, and economic groups.

Abstract

The film Ngeri Ngeri Sedap highlights Batak culture with the conflict between Batak parents and their eldest son who wants to marry a woman from a Sundanese ethnic background. This research aims to look at the co-culture process that occurs between these cultures to analyze the phenomenon of marriage between dominant cultures in Indonesia, such as the Batak tribe. This research uses a content analysis method with a conventional content analysis approach by looking at the process of assimilation, accommodation, and separation between the Domu character and the Neni character. The findings of this research are that the character Neni carries out assertive assimilation to approach and adapt to Domu by manipulating stereotypes by carrying out a procession of giving the Batak surname before getting married using the Batak wedding process. Neni also accommodated her ability and communication skills with Pak Domu which was shown by using the nickname "Amangboru". An interesting finding was the aggressive separation of the Sarma couple, who in the end were told they did not continue the relationship and experienced rejection because of their Javanese background. The separation that was carried out showed that there was a firm action from the co-culture group against the dominant group in terms of marriage.

Abstract

The development of communication technology allows muted people to express themselves in the social environment. Women serving as wives and mothers are a category of group still negotiating with patriarchal values that silence them. This article highlights the behavior of women as wives and mothers who share experiences and create a support ecosystem through the mediation of online conversation platforms. Through the perspective of feminism and affect theory with digital ethnographic data collection methods on The Asian Parent Indonesia platform, this paper aims to understand women's bodily experiences as part of representative knowledge production. This paper argues that digital conversation platforms create alternative spaces for nurturing and care that are limited in offline spaces, while mediating the process of feeling collectively among women who experience the bodily experience of being a wife or mother. The intersection of women, body, and digital technology shows that personal bodily experiences can establish collective bonds through the mobilization of emotions mediated by digital technology. Conversing with fellow women virtually is an effort to find a safe space for women who are silenced in the process of nurturing and caring in offline spaces.

Abstract

Social life of a diverse society requires a sense of respect to different customs, customs, religion or anything else, so that a shared identity is created in which good relations are established between members of community. Society must be able to understand different characteristics of existing phenomena as a means of maintaining relationships and minimizing conflict. This research describes the social relations of Chinese and Indigenous communities in Pasar Lama, Tangerang City. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Data collection was carried out through interviews, observation and documentation. The informants in this research were Chinese and Indigenous people in Pasar Lama, Sukasari Village, Tangerang City selected based on purposive techniques. Data validity was checked using source and technical triangulations and then analyzed using data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The theory used is Stafford and Canary's Relational Maintenance Theory consisting of positivity, openness, assurances, sharing tasks, and social networks. The result of research show that the openness of interaction between Chinese and Indigenous communities has been going on for a relatively long time, and finally being able to create adjustments amidst differences in culture, religion, traditions and habits. Positivity manifested in Chinese and Indigenous people’s open attitude in Pasar Lama was ultimately able to create positive relationships, influence each other and work well because of the tolerance between the two groups so that conflict could be minimized. Security (guaranty) appears in personal social relationships, namely marriage between Chinese and Native couples. Task Division is manifested into individual participation in various social activities such as mutual cooperation, community service, or national holiday activities. Social networks can be seen in open interactions leading to the formation of unity between them, creating relationships that occur in all aspects of life, including social, cultural, economic and educational. The conclusion drawn is that relationship maintenance strategies are related to social relations that occur between individuals or groups. Relationship maintenance strategies are effective for maintaining and developing positive and stable relationships in people's lives.

Abstract

Oral traditions, as an integral part of a society's belief system, not only serve as a guide for society in daily life, such as interactions between members of society and other people, and even with nature or the environment, but they also serve as recorders of history and culture, including natural events. This paper aims to describe the oral traditions of Ternate to identify potential natural disasters that hit Ternate City in particular and North Maluku in general. Therefore, the author uses the theory of myth function to embody the main research problem. The approach used in this paper is semiotics, especially in interpreting natural disasters that occurred in the past through codes contained in oral stories or legends. The research results show that the people of Ternate can only explain a few natural events in the past. Then, it is ontologically digested into myth to symbolise the cosmic-mystical realm of thought. Apart from that, the results of this reflection are related to cause-and-effect events, give rise to rules of behaviour, and become local intellectual ideals. However, records of natural phenomena or past events in myths or legends can, in theory, be linked to the truth and thus make cycles of disaster predictable. On the other hand, in a formal educational setting, this legend can be used to teach about mitigation. Legends about the mysterious origins of certain lakes are thought to include aspects of disaster or mitigation in Ternate.
