Abstract

The Taliwang and Sasak languages are an integral part of the cultural and linguistic identity of the West Nusa Tenggara region in Indonesia. These languages serve not only as media of communication but also as carriers of cultural heritage, reflecting their respective communities' values, traditions and history. Taliwang, primarily spoken by people in the Taliwang region, is deeply embedded in local culture and plays a vital role in its speakers' daily lives. Likewise, Sasak, the primary language of the Sasak people in Lombok, is an essential element of Sasak's cultural identity. This research adopts a qualitative case study approach to explore complex social phenomena such as code-mixing in specific communities. A case study allows an in-depth examination of the linguistic practices of the Lunyuk community, focusing on how and why speakers mix Taliwang and Sasak in their daily interactions. This research uses qualitative method to analyze the data. This data includes the types of code-mixing such as: insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization.

Abstract

This study analyzes the representation of women's images in two Bernadya songs through the perspective of Simone de Beauvoir's existentialist feminism, especially how women are depicted in patriarchal love relationships. The method used is critical discourse analysis with a hermeneutic approach, examining the hidden meanings behind the language and narrative in the lyrics. Data was obtained from the lyrics of both songs, sourced from credible music platforms, and analyzed based on de Beauvoir's concept of 'the Other.' The findings indicate that women are positioned in a subordinate role, trapped in the effort to achieve perfection in the eyes of their partners, yet never quite sufficient to gain equal recognition. This study contributes to the understanding of gender inequality in popular music media, with implications that music can serve as a tool to explore gendered power imbalances within patriarchal culture.

Abstract

Environmental damage has become an urgent global issue, including in Indonesia. Related to these problems, environmental education through children's story media can be used as a strategic approach to instill ecological awareness from an early age. One of the relevant children's literary works used is Luh Ayu Manik Mas: Ngelawan Luu Plastik, which not only raises environmental issues but also integrates local wisdom values. By using an ecocriticism approach, this study aims to analyze how the relationship between humans and nature is represented in children's stories. The research uses a content analysis method with a ecocritism approach, which focuses on three main aspects: environmental criticism, environmental education, and local wisdom. The results of the study show that this story conveys a strong criticism of the use of single-use plastics and their impact on ecosystems, such as coastal pollution and threats to marine life. Environmental education is present through dialogue that encourages readers to play an active role in reducing plastic waste. In addition, the local wisdom of the Hindu community in Bali is also depicted in the narrative of the story through a number of rituals, daily life practices that prioritize sustainability, and the philosophy of Tri Hita Karana to promote harmony between humans, nature, and spirituality. Thus, this story is not only an effective educational medium, but also serves as a means of preserving relevant local cultural values to face global environmental challenges.

Abstract

The novel “Hello” by Tere Liye is one of the literary works that presents a representation of strong, brave, and independent women amidst the dominance of patriarchal culture. Women in this novel are depicted as being able to fight gender stereotypes and build self-awareness as free individuals. This study aims to describe the values of feminism reflected in the character of strong women through the perspective of Simone de Beauvoir's existentialist feminist theory. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with content analysis techniques that focus on the dialogue, actions, and narratives of the main characters in the novel “Hello”. Data were obtained through intensive reading and recording of relevant data based on the theory of existentialist feminism. The results of the study show that the character Ana as the main character represents a strong woman who refuses to be the Other as stated by Simone de Beauvoir. This is shown through Ana's brave attitude in facing social pressure, her courage to make decisions without relying on others, and her efforts to build her freedom and existence as a woman. The conclusion of this study confirms that the novel “Hello” not only presents empowered female characters, but also voices feminist values that are relevant to women's struggles in modern society.
