Abstract

Language acquisition is a natural process that children experience when learning their mother tongue, taking place gradually from simple to complex. This study aims to examine the pragmatic acquisition of three-year-old bilingual children, focusing on speech acts, conversational rules, implicatures, deixis, and violations of the principle of cooperation in Grice's maxims. The research subject is Nasha, a girl from a bilingual family who speaks Indonesian and Javanese. The method used is descriptive qualitative, including interviews and direct observation. The results show that Nasha shows basic pragmatic abilities although she still has limitations in understanding social and linguistic contexts. This research provides new insights into language development in early childhood, especially in the aspect of pragmatics in a bilingual environment.

Abstract

Children's story text is a form of literary work that has strategic value in character building and developing children's literacy. Children's story texts hold linguistic richness that is interesting to study, especially in the aspect of syntax, which is the study of the structure and function of sentence building elements. This study aims to describe the syntactic structure by analyzing the use of functions and categories in sentences contained in children's story texts. The problem of this research is how syntactic functions and categories are represented in sentences in children's story texts. The data used are sentences that contain syntactic functions and categories. The data source comes from the text of a children's story titled “Tidak Bisa Tidak” in the Kemdikbud nontext book level B3. This research uses the listening method with note-taking technique in collecting the data. The analysis method used is agih method. The results obtained from this study show the existence of syntactic functions which include subject, predicate, object, description, and complement. In addition, there are categories found including nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, noun phrases, verb phrases, and pronomines.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the use of language as a tool for gender identity formation on X social media. This research examines how users reflect gender identity through language, transcend traditional stereotypes, and utilize the flexibility of language in an online context. The research data are 20 public posts from X users analyzed using a descriptive qualitative approach. Language indicators, such as the use of emoticons, empty adjectives, and direct communication styles, were used to identify linguistic patterns based on the theories of Lakoff and Henley & Kramarae. The results showed that women are no longer limited to supportive communication styles, but rather use assertive, harsh, or sarcastic language, while men have begun to adopt more emotional and aesthetic communication styles. The anonymity and flexibility of language on X social media allows users to experiment with gender identity, creating a more fluid and inclusive space. The findings contribute to sociolinguistic studies by highlighting the role of social media in shaping new gender identities in the digital age. It shows how online contexts enable linguistic interactions that transcend traditional gender boundaries, creating more dynamic identities.

Abstract

Personal morality is one of the important things in the existence of literature, not least in popular literature. Popular literature in Indonesia displays different moral faces from time to time. One of the dilemmas of moral issues is in presenting issues of ethnicity, religion, race, inter-group (SARA), and sex. This study questions how popular literature after the 2000s presents the morality of ethnicity, religion, violence, inter-group, and sex. These differences are possible because Indonesian society is increasingly educated and literate on the one hand, and when social media technology takes over "immoral things". This causes popular literature to manage the remaining morals that have been taken by social media more exclusively. This study will present several popular literature (novels) after the 2000s purposively. This study uses the theory of the concept of popular literature with a qualitative method of descriptive-analytical approach. The results of this study show that with the strengthening of the middle class in Indonesia which is increasingly educated and literate, its popular literature displays a more elegant “middle-class moral charm” in dealing with issues of ethnicity, religion, race, inter-group (SARA), and sex.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the text structure, social cognition, and social context in online media about Nia, a girl selling fried food who was a victim of rape and murder. The main focus of this study is to reveal how the media constructs and conveys information about the incident using a critical discourse analysis approach, especially Teun A. Van Dijk's theory. The method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through reading and recording news from two online media sites, namely detik.com and tvonenews.com, which contain the chronology of events. The results of the study show that although both news stories have the same theme regarding the development of the rape and murder case, there are differences in the content of the two news stories. The discourse structure in the news stories reveals how the media constructs narratives with the aim of shaping readers' perceptions, especially in highlighting the role of the police and describing the perpetrator's crimes. In addition, this analysis identifies discourse elements that reflect the dynamics of power underlying the news.

Abstract

This research aimed to examine these short stories in order to dissect the themes, characters and plot to reveal the tahlilan repertoire. To achieve this goal, this research used Wolfgang Iser's Aesthetic Response theory. This research was qualitative in nature, the primary data came from the NUonline page and the secondary one in the form related previous texts. The data obtained was analyzed through several stages, namely identification, classification and interpretation. This study identified two key repertoires, namely the repertoire of religious norm, which described the concept of heresy and it's legal basis, and the repertoire of social norm, which explained the negative and positive perspective of tahlilan from two religious groups. Among these, the repertoire of religious norm was the most dominant, as it served as the foundation for the conflicting perspectives in the narrative. This research highlighted how different groups' interpretation of tahlilan based on religious arguments and social traditions, shaping the broader discourse on religious practices in society.

Abstract

This study aims to describe multiculturalism as reflected in the novel Mengurai Rindu by Nang Syamsudin. Data was collected using observation, reading, and note-taking techniques and analyzed through content analysis methods with heuristic and hermeneutic reading approaches, interpreted using the sociology of literature theory. The findings reveal that Mengurai Rindu by Nang Syamsuddin is a literary work that: (1) highlights the diversity of society—including ethnicity, culture, and religion; (2) contains multicultural elements such as (a) solidarity and brotherhood, (b) gender equality, (c) family values, and (d) sharing and power control; (3) in addition to promoting multicultural values, it also presents anti-multicultural values, such as prejudice and stereotypes against other groups, particularly in interethnic relations; (4) the emergence of anti-multicultural values is influenced by the desire to preserve the purity of lineage; and (5) diversity as a form of multiculturalism can bring happiness and peace if managed well and if mutual respect for differences is maintained.
