Abstract

Deductive and Inductive method are two common teaching method applied by teachers. Both of the methods provide advantages to teachers to their teaching process. However, each of them also present different principles of the implementation. In that case, this research was carried out to figure out the teacher’s teaching activities representing the principles of implementing deductive and inductive method as well as to figure out the teacher’s reasons of selection the teaching methods (deductive or inductive method) in context of teaching English text types. To obtain the data to answer the research questions, a case study approach was used. The instruments used were observation and interview while the participant of this study was the English teacher of one of vocational school in Jombang having 10 years experiences. The findings of the research showed that the teacher applied different method for different class as it appeared in teacher’s selection of the activities representing the principles of teaching methods. The teacher selected to apply deductive method in which the activities presented the general rule – example – practice. Meanwhile, in inductive teaching method, the activities covered example – practice – general rule. In addition, it was also revealed that the teacher considered students’ level of interaction, text type, vocabulary usage as the reasons of selection between deductive or inductive method. At last, deductive and inductive method were said to be effective and appropriate teaching method which provided students to learn deductively and inductively as long as the teacher choose the method appropriately based on some considerations; interaction level, text type, and vocabulary usage. These research results contribute significantly to the teachers who often find difficulties which way best to apply when teaching English text types since they present different genre of text and the language use. Thus, this research results present the practical ways as high consideration to those teachers who are willing to undergo the methods whether it is deductive or inductive teaching method.

Abstract

Abstract: The objective of this study is to find autistic children use to learn English and understand how to teach English to autistic students at this elementary school. The qualitative research method was applied in this investigation. Qualitative mining yields detailed and unpredictable findings. In this instance, the principal, an English teacher, a physicist, autistic children from various backgrounds, and shadow teachers all took part in the investigation process. Tools included observations and interviews with teachers, a physicist, a shadow teacher, an English teacher, and a principal. Tunas Mekar School has the following six plans: The acronym ABA represents "Taking Control of Students' Actions." Modelling and role-playing are utilized to teach through movement and facial emotions. Less is more (with clear, simple instructions). To enhance the child's social skills in the classroom, assist them with visual materials and provide them with a range of stimuli. Employing PECS, being ability to obey instructions while maintaining composure is a sign of self-control. Learning a foreign language also benefits children with ASD by increasing their self-awareness. To organize and get along with others, parents should emphasize their child's talents and provide an organized learning environment.

Abstract

The importance of developing critical thinking skills in elementary education has gained increasing recognition, particularly through the implementation of inquiry-based learning (IBL) models. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the social inquiry learning model in enhancing critical thinking skills among fourth-grade students at an public elementary school in Surabaya. Employing a qualitative case study methodology, data were collected through interviews, classroom observations, reflective journals, and document analysis. The thematic analysis revealed significant improvements in critical thinking for 75% of the participants, highlighting key themes such as "Engagement in Critical Thinking" and "Interaction Patterns in Learning Activities." These findings support the theoretical frameworks of Vygotsky and Piaget, demonstrating the model's applicability in non-Western educational contexts. The study suggests that culturally responsive teaching methods, incorporating social interactions and structured inquiry, can significantly enhance cognitive development. However, the limited scope of a single school and a small sample size suggest the need for further research across diverse settings. Future research should explore the long-term impacts of inquiry-based learning and the role of teacher preparation in implementing these strategies. This research underscores the importance of interactive, student-centered learning frameworks in fostering critical thinking and calls for a shift towards more dynamic educational approaches to prepare students for complex global challenges.

By instructing students on pro-environmental behavior, early environmental education and training can start to establish pro-environmental behavior among student. To proof the value of environmental education in educating students about current environmental issues and their effects on public health and safety, as well as motivating them to adopt pro-environmental behaviors, a literature review is required. The review was based on nine studies from reputable international publications that were published in English between 2019 and 2023 and were selected based on title, population, objectives, and outcomes criteria. The articles were found in the ScienceDirect database. The review focuses mostly on establishing the effectiveness of environmental education in influencing pro-environmental behavior. The review also examines the ways in which students' perceptions of environmental education and their pro-environmental conduct are influenced by the interaction of internal and external influences. The study's findings demonstrate the significance of environmental education in influencing students' pro-environmental behavior. By providing students with reliable, accurate, and valid information, environmental education raises their awareness of environmental issues and promotes the development of pro-environmental behavior. Additional research on best practice design to rise pro-environmental behavior through environmental education can be developed from this study. More research is required on the topic of integrating more both internal and external factors of pro-environmental behavior in the environmental education curriculum.

Based on the teacher’s interview and students’ questionnaire, the result was as follows; the students had never used physical teaching media such as flashcards and the teacher used a handbook or module. Followed by the design phase, the first medium validation got some suggestions from an expert by changing the words in each sentence. The last phase was media implementation, the students were asked to assess the medium by filling out the responses’ questionnaire. The result showed that they gave positive responses, felt helpful, and enjoyed while playing Sentence Box. This teaching medium would be appropriate for teaching grammar especially the simple present tense, interesting, innovative, also the procedures are clear and understandable.
