Abstract

This study aims to semantically, morphologically, and syntactically analyze Dompunese and Bimanese common idiom “Kalembo ade”. To obtain accurate data, this qualitative research used in-depth interview to some indigenous people of Dompu and Bima who actively speak Bima language. The significant findings of this research is that the phrase kalembo ade and its lexical English translation enlarge heart have the same morphological rules which both are composed of prefix + adjective and noun. Syntactically, the phrase kalembo ade has the same syntactical rule with its lexical English translation enlarge heart. The two phrases are occupied by Verb Phrase (VP) which the transitive verbs enlarge and kalembo function as predicate (P), and the words ade and heart are occupied by Noun Phrase (NP) whose function as a Direct Object (DO). Another important finding in this study is that in everyday communication, Kalembo Ade has various meanings and functions based on the context uttered such as sorry in expression of apology, be patient in expression of sympathy or condolence, and be advised in asking one’s understandings. Similar studies which investigate morphological, syntactical, and semantic rules of other phrases are highly recommended for future studies.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of augmented reality media based on local wisdom in writing descriptive text among Junior High School Students in Sorong Regency. The method used is true experiment with research design posttest only control design that using two different groups that were designated as the control group and the experimental group. The researchers used 2 schools in Sorong district, namely Muhammadiyah Junior High School 2 Mariyai and Junior High School 11 Sorong Regency. The population is 235 consisting of 2 schools. The sampling technique used is simple random sampling to reduce bias in favor of certain population members and identify standard errors in the study. A sample of 23 students was in group VII A of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Mariyai and 25 students in Group VII C of SMP 11. The results show that the application of augmented reality media is more effective in learning outcomes of writing descriptive text than picture card media. Data analysis shows that the application of augmented reality media has an average learning outcome value of 75.12, with the highest score of 90 different from picture card media which only has an average value of 58.43, with the highest score of 78. Furthermore, the results of the hypothesis test shows that the sig value is 0.001 < 0.005 so it is assumed that Augmented Reality media is more effective in improving writing skills of descriptive text.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the functions of representative speech used by users of the social media application Facebook. The study uses a descriptive qualitative method, and data is collected through documentation techniques from the social media platform Facebook. The data analyzed in this study includes words, sentences, and paragraphs posted by Facebook users. The results of this study reveal that representative speech has four functions: (1) to state the hopes, principles, aspirations, and beliefs of the speaker, (2) to inform readers or interlocutors about information, events, concepts, and knowledge, (3) to suggest that interlocutors believe, do, or follow something that the speaker has experienced, and (4) to complain about what the speaker is feeling, thinking, or doing and hoping to receive comments, approval, and feedback from interlocutors. This research is relevant to the study of language acts and representative speech on the Facebook social media platform.

Abstract

The education system has been transformed to phenomena of education in the 21st century. The technology requires all the students to integrate with digital media that support the students and the teacher meeting virtually. This research used description qualitative to reveal students’ perception toward ICT in English learning by distributing the questionnaire by using Google platform to 26 students in one of Universities at Sorong City. Researcher used Likerts’ scale to count the percentage of students’ perception. There are 20 questions in questionnaire and most students agree that learning L2 by using ICT makes them enjoyable, cheerful, and self-confident, reduce students’ anxiety. They motivate to learn English through application because the applications help them to improve their cognitive in critical thinking, opinion and creativity, and creating material through technology. They use social media to learn English by watching the videos relating to English learning. To keep students’ positive perception toward ICT is hoped the English teacher using various applications in teaching process which is appropriate with English skills and English components. By teaching English using applications, it motivates students to learn more and the way to acquire the target language.

Abstract

Synchronous online instruction is a tool to provide learning source for the students and educators in 21st century. YouTube as synchronous online instruction is used not only for entertainment but also in teaching English for students. This research has purpose to explain students’ Engagement in English learning through YouTube channel to deliver their opinion and idea. The data was collected by observing teaching and learning process and students’ engagement checklist. This research used descriptive case study to explain the result. It found that what the lecturer taught through YouTube video, it had given beneficial references for students because the lecturer used YouTube as media in teaching English. Moreover, the students used YouTube video to practice English skills such as they practiced to conversation with friends, discussion, sharing idea, describing and giving opion. Besides that, the students can listen the several videos in YouTube related to the topic. Therefore, it indicated that three aspects of engagement presented on this study such as emotional, cognitive, and behaviour engagement had answered.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out whether Mind mapping is effective or not in teaching speaking at eight-B grade of SMP N 4 Sorong Regency. Related to the objective of the research used pre-experimental quantitative research design. The design of this research was one group pre-test-post-test. The population of this research was eight grade students divide two classes that were VII A and B, the total of them were 37 students. Based on purposive sampling, the researchers chose eight B grade and which total was 10 students because the class was lack in speaking so they have low score and the students from Papua was dominant. In the collecting of data, the researchers did interview with five questions for pre-test and post-test. In analyzing the data, the researchers used SPSS 20 program to calculation the data. The result findings of the research showed that the result of N-gain was 43,77 with categorized was quite effective. In addition, the result of T-test was P-Value (0.000) < α (0.05), it means that H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected. It can be concluded that Mind Mapping Technique in Teaching Speaking was effective.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the improvement of students' science process skills through 5E-based student worksheets (STUDENTS’ WORKSHEET) and to observe the interaction between science process skills and 5E-based students’ worksheets. This is a quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The research was conducted from July to June 2022. The research population was all seventh-grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah Aimas, while the research sample consisted of two classes, namely VII A and VII B, taken using purposive sampling technique. The instruments used for data collection were the learning objectives, syllabus, lesson plans, 5E-based students’ worksheet, science process skills observation sheets, and test items on science process skills. The data analysis techniques used were validity, reliability, homogeneity, normality tests, and hypothesis testing using ANCOVA. The results showed that the research instruments were valid and reliable, and the data was homogenous and normally distributed. The hypothesis testing results showed that there was an improvement in students' science process skills through 5E-based students’ worksheet, and there was an interaction between science process skills and 5E-based students’ worksheet.

Abstract

This research aims to determine teachers’ perception about the Teachers’ Perception on Curriculum Penggerak at SMA Muhammadiyah Al-Amin Kota Sorong. This research is descriptive qualitative research. Data collection techniques using interview techniques. The population in this research were two female teachers as research subjects. From the result of interviews, it was found that teachers were able to demonstrate their competence in implementing the curriculum penggerak demands and the needs of students. The results of the findings above prove that the curriculum penggerak that is implemented is good enough so that it can be concluded that the curriculum penggerak is quite effective in the learning process at SMA Muhammadiyah Al-Amin Kota Sorong.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the interest in learning the MOI language of information technology education students using the KMOIS application (Indonesian Dictionary Moi). This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection was carried out using interview, observation and documentation techniques. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model, namely data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the interest in learning the Moi language of information technology education students from Papua was influenced by the difficulty of getting books about the Moi language and students thought that learning the Moi language was very difficult, so using the KMOIS application (Indonesian Dictionary of Moi) was very helpful in increasing students' interest in learning from Papua in learning the Moi language

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the needs of students regarding Interactive Learning-based mathematics textbooks in English. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The subjects of this study were 4 Mathematics Education Students at UNIMUDA Sorong who had taken an English course. Data collection techniques using interviews and questionnaires. The results of the study show that students want English teaching materials that are easy to understand, communicative, and interactive.
