Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a chronic disease that requires long-term management through pharmacological treatment and lifestyle modifications. Consistency in taking antihypertensive medication is essential to prevent complications. However, this contrasts with some patients who discontinue medication due to assumptions about experienced side effects. This study aims to examine the relationship between discontinuation of antihypertensive medication and assumptions about side effects among hypertensive patients at Kaliangkrik Public Health Center. Methods: This research employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. Sampling was conducted using accidental sampling with a total of 100 respondents. The instrument used was a questionnaire consisting of respondent characteristics, assumptions about medication side effects, and decisions to continue or stop taking the medication. Univariate analysis was used to describe the data distribution, while bivariate analysis employed the Chi-Square test. Results: The majority of respondents (81%) reported having assumptions of experiencing side effects, with most assuming they experienced headaches (86%). A total of 55 respondents had stopped taking their medication. There was a significant relationship between assumptions about side effects and the decision to stop medication, with a p-value of 0.005 (p < 0.05). The Odds Ratio (OR) value of 4.6 indicates that respondents who assumed they experienced side effects were 4.6 times more likely to stop taking the medication. The Relative Risk (RR) value of 2.3 shows that these respondents had a 2.3 times higher risk of stopping medication compared to those without such assumptions. Conclusion: Negative assumptions about medication side effects influence patients’ decisions to discontinue antihypertensive medication. Education regarding medication use and potential side effects should be provided to hypertensive patients during consultations and at the time of medication dispensing.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is an increasing health issue among adolescents and may lead to early cardiovascular morbidity if not detected early. Lifestyle behaviors such as diet, physical activity, and body mass index (BMI) are strongly associated with adolescent blood pressure levels. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in March–April 2025 among 120 adolescents aged 15–18 years in senior high schools in Temanggung Regency, Central Java, Indonesia. Data were collected using structured questionnaires on lifestyle (diet, physical activity, smoking) and blood pressure measurement using a digital sphygmomanometer. Chi-square test was used to analyze associations between lifestyle factors and hypertension. Results: The prevalence of hypertension among participants was 14.2%. Hypertension was significantly associated with overweight/obesity (p=0.001), low physical activity (p=0.012), and high-salt diet (p=0.021). No significant association was found with smoking (p=0.165).Conclusion: Lifestyle factors such as BMI, physical activity, and diet are strongly associated with hypertension among adolescents. Preventive interventions through school-based education and routine screening are essential to reduce long-term cardiovascular risks

Abstract

Background: Early adolescents are an age group that is vulnerable to sexual violence due to low knowledge of interpersonal boundaries. Data from the Magelang City Departement of Community Empowerment, Women, Child Protection, Population Control, and Family Planning 2024-2025 shows that there are 15 cases of sexual violence in adolescents aged 10-13 years who still have a low level of knowledge related to interpersonal boundaries. Efforts have been made by local agencies, including through outreach in schools and child protection campaigns. However, the weakness is that the programs provided are still general in nature and have not been integrated with interactive learning media. Methods: This study used a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design of the one group pretest-posttest type, as well as providing material related to understanding sexual violence prevention, program objectives, types of violence in the virtual and real worlds, and perpetrators of sexual violence.  The sample amounted to 55 students in grades V and VI at SDN 1 Tidar, Magelang City, who were selected through the total sampling technique. The research instrument was in the form of a knowledge questionnaire, and data analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test  with an alpha of 5% because the data is not normally distributed. Results: The results of the study showed a significant increase in knowledge after being given an intervention with Moksal media with a p-value = 0.000. A weakness of this study is the absence of a control group; however, the accuracy of this learning medium is guaranteed by providing material related to the prevention of sexual violence. Conclusion: Moksal learning media  is effective in increasing early adolescents' knowledge about sexual violence prevention

Abstract

Background: Negative emotional states among pregnant women is an issue that should not be ignored due to its widespread impact on the health of mothers and babies, which can last for the long term. In addition to affecting physical conditions. This study aims to describe negative emotional states in pregnant women and its risk factors. Methods: The research method used is descriptive analysis. The study population consists of all pregnant women in Magelang City, totaling 540 individuals, with a purposive sample of 214 individuals. Respondents were asked to complete a questionnaire containing data on respondent characteristics and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS). The collected data will then be analyzed using frequency distribution tables and logistic regression to determine the influencing risk factors. Results: Prevalence negative emotional states : most experiencing mild depression (71%), most experiencing moderate anxiety (68%), with the majority experiencing moderate stress (57%), and total negative emotional states(experiencing at least one): 67,8%. Negative emotional states was higher in those aged < 20 years or > 35 years (p = 0.019), those with low education (p = 0.041), those with low family support (p < 0.001), and those with a pregnancy related illness (p = 0.024). The logistic regression results showed that the dominant risk factor was low family support (OR = 3.9; 95% CI: 1.9–7.8), followed by a pregnancy related illness (OR = 2.5; 95% CI: 1.2–5.2).Conclusion: Negative emotional statescan occur in pregnant women, especially those who are too young or too old, unemployed, have little support from their husbands, and have a history of obstetric complications. Health workers are expected to help pregnant women minimize negative emotional states .
